I bought these and these are absolutely great for both cases. I went on a Whitewater rafting trip where we had to hike a mile to the river with the boat and my feet felt great during it. I also after the white water rafting played in a river with lots of rocks and climbed on them. These shoes gave me the stability and grip that I needed on wet slippery surfaces too. Bought these for trekking the Narrows at Zion and they performed as well as could be expected. I had no issues and walked about 3/4 of a mile in and then back. The shoes were comfortable and I had no issues with them. I wear a size 8 shoe and ordered an 8 and a 9. The 9 was too big. The 8 was a comfortable snug fit. The traction was good. I slipped on a few slippery rocks but felt the traction on most rocks while climbing. The cushioning is thin where you can feel the contours of the rocks but provided plenty of protection from the rocks hurting your feet. These look pretty nice as well. My wife and son wore Northside water shoes from Big 5 and they both tore holes through the big toe area. She wants to get a pair the next time we go. These shoes are incredible for walking on dirt, pavement or in the water. We went on walks, hikes, and walked through water and the shoes were so comfortable and not slippery in the water or wet rocks. Also they fold pretty flat for travel and come in a plastic zip carry bag. I went on a trip with 30 people and they all wanted a pair. I am going to buy 10 as Christmas gifts! ... show more

I live on a river and go floating quite often. I have tried 10 different water/swim shoes and always had the same results. Rocks always ending up in my shoes. I have tried various brands and sizes from the cheapies at Walmart to a decent pair (Body Glove) from Academy. Then I found these! They worked great, fit well (I like them snug), and gave good grip. Great for kayaking and jetskiing, and for avoiding stepping on mystery pinchy things in the ocean. Best water shoes ever! Only wore them once, so cannot say how they hold up long term. I was not aware that there is more than standard, store bought water shoes out there till search on amazon. Very soft, light yet sturdy. Insert is nice and sturdy, does not come out when you take shoes off or put them on. Shoes do not get in the way while swimming. Water drains through mesh top and out of the bottom of shoes through the holes as if you not even wearing anything on your feet. No more sand or small rocks inside. Ordered mine normal tennis shoe size and fit perfect! I do have a wider foot but was not an issue. Wore them to hike to Cummins Falls (mix of dirt, mud, gravel and large rocks). Worked perfect! I hate traditional watershoes because they still allow small rocks inside the shoe. These did NOT! The soles are also very flexible. I was able to climb huge pointy rocks and bend my toes to stabilize myself while I was moving from rock to rock. I am interested to try them at the river with all the sand. ... show more
