Top Amazon Reviews

  • Links to important Consumer Reports information, and analysis of 5 star vs 1 star Amazon ratings
The following also appears as a Comment after the reviews by "J. Littrell" (most helpful favorable review on 24 July '11) and "Timothy M. Watson 'TimW' " (most helpful critical review on same date). Full links to important Consumer Reports (CR) video information appears in those Comments. Here, because Amazon apparently does not allow links to appear in reviews, I indicate how the CR video Links to can be accessed by way of google search: Per information on Consumer Reports, the first guard against vibration is the purchase of a washing machine that has built in vibrational dampening that is effective. [ Video Link deleted by Amazon. Google: " laundry--cleaning/stopping-vibrating ", and go to first hit, from Consumer Reports, and see the video, etc. ] It is likely that the many 4-5 star reviews versus the set of 1 star reviews here at Amazon indicate that the Silent Feet product works reasonably well with many models, across a range of lessor vibration issues -- but cannot effectively mitigate vibration in the cases of the worst designed machines. (If some of the Amazon reviews are accurate, the product may indeed worsen the effect in some unfortunate cases.) This "works for some, not for others" is a reasonable, technically grounded explanation of the data, and also explains why Consumer Reports (CR) data does not align with Amazon reviewer experience. Amazon reviewers are testing a range of different machines with different degrees of vibration, while CR apparently only tested the single worst vibrating washing machine in its test of Silent Feet and related products. [ Video Link deleted by Amazon. Google: " Inside Consumer Reports Test Labs: Reviewing antivibration pads ", and go to first hit, from Consumer Reports, and see the video, etc. ] Kudos/cheers to Vibration Solutions LLC (producer of the Silent Feet product) for offering refunds in the cases where their products are not effective. I would be a more solid fan if they also offered full web links to all of the CR information on their tests (and not just the positive seeming), and if they would perform their own accelerometer tests, like CR, on a series of at least 3-5 washers with unbalanced loads, on a mock standard subfloor-and-joist station (worst case, like a 2nd floor condo installation) . That is, for highest consumer regard, Vibration Solution LLC (Silent Feet mfr.) needs to offer their own study and analysis (indicating the models for which their products don't work), or at very least fully report the CR analysis available, even though seemingly negative, along with explanation of the sort I offer here. • What a difference
I have a Kenmore front loading washing machine that I bought about 4 years ago. Like all front loaders, it spins at very high speed to remove excess water from the clothing. For the first three years, the washer sat directly on the tile floor. We are also on an upper floor. The washer sounded like a jet at takeoff during the spin cycle. You could hear and feel it from every room in the apartment. I'm sure our downstairs neighbor was no fan either. With a baby on the way, I realized our laundry needs would increase dramatically and I started searching for a solution to the noise and vibration. I bought these feet. They were easy to install, with two feet designed for easy sliding, and two that are sticky (without adhesive). The jet engine has been reduced to an almost pleasant white noise, and the vibration is gone completely. It's spinning right now and just to be sure, I walked over and put my hand on the tile an inch from the washer. Absolutely no vibration in the floor. Remarkable. ... show more

  • Expensive but worth it
I think these are a bit expensive for the materials involved. But the price is worth it. We have front load washer on main floor and it was driving me nuts. It was our first front load washer and I was sure it was defective until I searched online. I still can't believe that this is an acceptable product but I guess the wife likes it enough. Anyway, typical "walking" and shaking problems. The house was built new in 2009 and I could feel the floors shaking 50 ft away, even tore up the new linoleum. I was afraid that it was going to cause structural damage! Anyway, these Silent Feet stopped the "walking" completely and greatly reduced the shaking. Washer is still loud, but at least it isn't shaking the house apart. Would recommend as they've made a very significant improvement. ... show more

  • Problem not solved
Vibration pads did not suppress vibration to the advertised level.

  • You must define "Vibration"
Ok, so I've had these installed a while for use with a 2nd floor front-load washer in a wood-frame building. These claim to eliminate vibration, and they do... but understand what they mean by "vibration". If your washing machine is "vibrating", they mean high-frequency vibration. Think of your cellphone on silent mode. Or maybe the feeling you get when you bump your elbow. For that, they certainly do absorb nearly 100% of it. I can't feel a thing more than 2-3 feet away. However if your washer visibly *shakes* (oscillation of 1/4" or more) during its spin cycle, these may actually worsen the condition. My washer (LG WM3455HW) doesn't have the greatest internal dampening, even when perfectly level, so once planted on these the high-speed spin cycle shook the floor a little more than previously! Why? These are made of a heavy gauge "goo". If your washer heaves side to side at all, these "give" more than if it were sitting on the floor directly. They aren't substantial enough to absorb that kind of deflection, so it transfers into the floor anyway. The end result (for my washer) is it shakes side to side more drastically than it did before; and do does the floor Whether or not that's a problem for you depends on your situation exactly. If your washer actually 'vibrates' this work work great. Otherwise, you may want to check into other solutions. ... show more
