  • Not the same as they used to be
Style: HD 25 Lite
I've been using this model headphone for about 20 years professionally as a medical transcriptionist. Back in the day the cord was rubberized, non tangle and non kinking.. The phones themselves sounded great. I used them about 10 hours a day between work and recreationally. Fast forward to about 5 years ago when I bought a new pair after my original beloved set gave up the ghost and just fell apart. The cord was now a much cheaper plasticized cord that never straightened out and stayed permanently bent and kinked. One of the headphone wires developed a short or some sort of contact issue that made it stop working until the cord was unplugged from the speaker and then plugged back in. This happened constantly. Bear in mind that both cords going to both headphones are detachable and can be unplugged from the headset. So I bought yet another pair that had the same issue of sound shorting out in one headphone until the cord was unplugged and then replugged. This happened multiple times daily. Same cheapo plasticized cord. Then I Googled and discovered that the cord connection was the source of a problem for many people, some of whom offered self-fixes on YouTube or other websites. A new cord is outrageously expensive, in the 40-50 dollar range. So in my experience these are not what they used to be, not even close. Be aware of the cord shorting issue before you buy and think about whether you want to risk having the same issue that has plagued many owners of these headphones. ... show more

  • Fantastic sound, found none better in the $150 to $350 range, made in Romania a let down.
Style: HD 25
I tested at least 20 headsets ($150 to $350 range), in the same location, at the same time, using my iphone, on the same song ( with very dynamic highs and lows, volume shifts, etc ) and these headphones blew every one of them away. The comparison to the others wasn’t even close. The bass response was so impressive, the mids very clean (not muffled) and the highs are so crisps and clean its hard to believe. You have to compare headphones side by side to really know how good a pair is. You can’t check one out then drive to another location and compare. So why a 4 star? I thought these headphones were made in Ireland. All the reviews, videos and pictures I saw show made in Ireland. Well, not any more. Sennheiser opened a new factory in Romania. Apparently this is where all the consumer electronics gear is now made. Sorry Romania nothing against you, but I feel, perhaps unjustified, more confidence in products from Ireland. Thats one reason why I bought. So a big let down with made in Romania for me. At least it didn’t say made in China. I would think the new factory in Romania is state of the art as it just opened so maybe Im wrong on this. But still disappointed. ... show more

  • Pleasantly Surprised
Style: HD 25
I was super in-between buying these or the ATH-M50X as a pair of headphones for some entry-level mixing. I'm really happy that I decided to buy these ones as they work perfect for what I'm looking for. They're super lightweight and they don't really squeeze your head very much - so lots of points for comfort! I also really enjoy the sound quality of these headphones. As someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with over-ear headphones, I think this was a great purchase as my "first pair." They have great mids/lows and in my opinion the perfect amount of bass. This makes for really good listening for any edm tracks which is what I primarily mix. Although these headphones aren't specifically noise cancellation, they do also isolate sound very well. I'm taking one star off for these headphones because I'm a little unimpressed by their quality. If I hadn't done any kind of research and looked at these in a store, I would have not been impressed. They feel a little cheap in my opinion for being $150 and the padding around the ears/top of the head is very plasticy. Despite this, I would still buy these headphones because I'm really impressed with their sound quality, comfort, and their sound isolation. ... show more

  • One of the best sets of headphones out there
Style: HD 25
These are perfect for all types of music. I mostly listen to ska punk, rock, and metal and I am absolutely blown away by how much of my favorite tracks my pair of Beats earbuds was hiding from me. The bass is just right without being exaggerated and the treble is so spectacularly clear. I only have two complaints: opening the headband seems to damage/pinch the wires that lead to the actual headphones, and within a week I experienced some times when my music would stop because my phone registered the device as having been removed when it hadn't. The second is possibly due to wear and tear (I was rather unkind to the wire during my first few days of use), but the first is definitely a manufacturing issue. I worry that over time I'll need to replace this wire. Overall, definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Feel cheap but sound excellent!
Style: HD 25
Originally, I was put off by the cheap feeling construction... That is, until I put them on and heard the quality of the sound. These are great headphones... The range of the HD 25's is very good; I feel the bass is rich and and mids/highs are crisp. Sennheiser has found a good balance between low and high range frequencies. I cranked my volume pretty high and I did not hear any clipping or distortion. I am very please with these and they even sound better if you pair them with a DAC! If you are an audiophile, these are great starters. ... show more

  • No option for alternate cords.
Style: HD 25 Lite
Anyone who works in a DJ booth, especially mobile, knows that headphone cords can get tangled or interfere with movement. While some don't care about this, others like myself prefer to use a spiral cord that contracts and expands to stay out of the way while giving flexibility. If a DJ is running multiple programs, lights, etc., or working a private event like a wedding, these are simply not good enough. I imagine they are great for listening and the lightweight is good for longer events, but for most DJs who dislike tripping on cords or getting hung up, this is a poorer option than wireless. I recommend these only if you don't mind getting tangled up in long fixed cords or want to look cool in your bedroom. ... show more
