    • Excellent Build Quality - Sound OK

The build quality and comfort of the helmet set the bar for other motorcycle helmets. Top-notch in all respect and although I own about a dozen this is going to be my main one. I road with it last night for several hours and really love the way it feels. All in all, for the price point as a stand-alone helmet I have no complaints. Add the Bluetooth electronic aspect to it, (Which is also great quality) and all is right with the world. A five-star review and delightful helmet to wear. That said, I am keeping it and am going to enjoy it for years to come. Although I am currently not using the intercom system, I am sure that I will and based on other reviews and what it is also worthy of a five-star review. So why did I drop a star? It was a borderline decision but I believe that more could have been done be Sena to make the speakers perform a little better. They are OK and I realize that they are not over the ear and there is limited space, but they could simply be better. To be fair, my bike is nasty and loud, but I have used other helmets with speakers and they sounded better. So in the end, a great helmet with quality guts and a tad bit better than just OK speakers and overall sound quality. Please do not read that wrong as by no means are they bad and I very much enjoyed last nights ride listening to music, but the sound is far from awesome or amazing. Just OK. ... show more

The helmet works surprisingly well for the form factor and sounds remarkable for music listening and intercom purposes. It’s impressive that the sound quality is so good considering the open style of a half helmet. As a side note, it DOES help to use the plastic ear shields or the strap cushions, especially at higher speeds (above 40 mph) where the sound quality tends to get drowned by wind noise. The included side plastic shield/deflectors or the included ear pads (which fit onto the chin strap) really make the sound quality exceptional and focuses the speaker output to your ears. My only complaint, and it’s a minor one, is that the fit is just marginally loose compared to my other helmets of this size range, with no way to adjust it. It would be nice to have some hook and loop inserts to alter the fit. However, it’s a fairly deep bucket and the helmet does tend to be quite warm too. The intercom works well and is somewhat amazing to me that they can hide a microphone and two speakers in this form factor. All in all, it’s a pretty great product in my book! ... show more

The Helmet: pretty standard half helmet, comfortable, will still give you "mushroom head" look, and the size runs a little on the larger side. The Audio: I've only used it for listening to music, and haven't tried phone or intercom conversations. The bluetooth set up was pretty straightforward with my Samsung S9. The controls for on/off, volume, next song, etc., work well. The audio quality varies greatly with the three different configurations of the ear plates and pads. Without any ear plates or pads installed, the sound is very thin and not enjoyable. Adding the plastic ear plates improves the sound quality a little and helps eliminate some of the wind noise. With both the ear plates and pads, the sound quality is pretty good, with a decent blend of bass frequencies. The volume in all three configurations are good, correlating with sound quality, up to 70 mph on my '16 Heritage with Bassani dual pipes. The longest duration I've had it on was about 90 minutes and the comfort and battery life were fine. Though the full ear plate and padding don't actually touch my ears, they're pretty close and it adds to the heat on hot days. ... show more

    • Runs a little big.

Love the helmet but it’s a little big. The helmet I wore before this one was an HJC which fit perfectly. I compared the Sena size chart to the HJC size chart and they are identical so I ordered the same size, XL. However, the Sena fits looser. I believe the shell size is the same but the difference is the inner padding. I wish it had a drop down face shield. Otherwise love the helmet, is my new go-to. The forehead mic is phenomenal, practically magic how good it sounds at the other end while riding (according to paired riding buddy). He says he can’t hear wind or the motorcycle but my voice is clear. The speakers are good but not great. They definitely do the trick but the sound quality could be better. They outta sub out the speakers to Bose. Lastly the ear cups and muffs fall out to easily but a little Velcro will fix the muffs-can’t do that with the plastic ear cups though. All that being said, the Sena Cavalry is the best thing out there. I recommend it as a buy. ... show more

    • Good but better with windshield

This helmet is great. It has a very comfortable fit. For the rest of this review it is important to note that I was using this helmet on a Harley Davidson with NO WINDSHIELD/FAIRING. I note that because I believe with a windshield/fairing this helmet would be 5 star. As soon as I get the chance to try this with a windshield I will update. The sound quality is OK. Helmet comes with ear covers that help keep the wind out and redirects sound down into your ears. Without them it’s very hard to hear anything over 40 MPH, with them it’s pretty good up to around 70 MPH and slowly goes downhill from there. The communication system works ok, but being an open face helmet you naturally want to scream to talk to each other causing some ear drum blowouts for the person on the receiving end. The helmet controls are capable of much more than I can remember to do while riding. It has so many great features, but when I’m riding I can’t remember how to do most of them. I just used it for about a 400 mile weekend with my girlfriend (she got one as well) and I can say it definitely made the trip more enjoyable with music even if there was the occasional eardrum blow out of her trying to talk to me using the headset. All in all I would recommend this helmet. ... show more
