Description

The Sea to Summit Big River Dry Bag is an ultra-durable, trustworth dry storage option, for river trips in a kayak, canoe, or raft, as well as motorcycle touring, bike packing, and other outdoor adventures. Manufactured from lightweight, waterproof TPU-coated 420D nylon, with a 10,000mm waterhead (the higher the waterhead rating, the more waterproof the fabric), its reinforced waterproof seams are double-stitched, and tape sealed. The secure hypalon roll-top closure features D-rings for easy attachment, and hypalon loops make it easy to lash or stack bags. The Sea to Summit Big River Dry Bag’s low-profile, streamlined shape saves space, and its oval base resists rolling. A patent-pending field repair buckle can be replaced in seconds with a Phillips screwdriver. Available in seven sizes: 3 liter, 5 liter, 8 liter, 13 liter, 20 liter, 35 liter, and 65 liter, to carry everything from small essentials to group gear. I am new to kayaking, and dry bags, so I read a...er...boatload...of reviews. I needed one for my maiden voyage, and finally settled on the Big River 8L bag. It was perfect. I got a Sitka hooded sweatshirt, a small towel, and a couple of bananas and fig bars in there with a bit of room to spare. Not too big, not too small. Sizing descriptions on various sized bags were exceptionally confusing. Like nothing fits in a 5 liter except maybe a pair of socks and some lint. In an 8 liter, you could get a sleeping bag and a puffy coat. A 10L, you could put your boat in it, and so on. So I was lost at what to get. A 10L seemed huge for a couple hours of playing about on the river. A 5L seemed like it might be too small, so I split the difference. In my highly inexperienced opinion, it's about perfect for a day outing if you aren't bringing your house with you. It got wet outside. It did NOT get wet inside. It seems very durable, and I used the clip and a carabiner to ensure that it would go downriver with the kayak in the event that I went swimming inadvertently. I'm glad I sprung for the extra quality. I figured with trips with my dog to the coast and other things, it would see good service to warrant the little bit higher price. I have not used it a lot yet. It's going out again tomorrow on a kayaking wildlife tour. A three hour tour. IYKYK. But I am looking forward to putting some miles in with this bag and expect it to hold up well. ... show more

I pack alot of stuff on motorcycle trips. I could not find any bag long enough to fit my skateboard. This one fits my whole board without taking anything apart, as well as shoes, knee pads and whatever else I have room to fit in there. I've used a 13L Sea to Summit Light Weight Dry Bag for well over five years to protect and carry any and all on the water; keys, handheld VHF, fly boxes, hemostats, etc. It finally developed a small pin hole, probably my fault. In replacing the only thing I wished it had was more "structure" so I decided to try the Big River bag in the same size. The fabric is much stiffer and I'm sure will be more durable. The additional lash loops are a welcome addition but I do miss the "D" ring on the buckle so I've added added one for an additional attachment point. Great bag! ... show more

I use this for commuting and I would say that it has exceeded expectations. Keeps everything bone dry. Pretty sturdy. And a lot cheaper than others around the same quality. Might get one with a vacuum valve in the future as I often forget to push out the air before closing.
