  • Beautiful looking versatile bass with some things to consider...
Color: CRBS Style: HELLRAISER EXTREME-5
Fantastic quality and sound, but I'm going to be honest in this review, this bass won't be for everyone. It does have a few physical "quirks" which you'll either love, hate, or not care about. The biggest one is it's definitely not a slapping bass. Is it possible? Of course. But compared to some variety of say a jazz bass the limitations are instantly noticeable. There's less spacing between pickups and the neck and you have to reach a little harder for those top notes. Also the spacing between strings is definitely on the slimmer end, not inherently bad but I'm not as used to it yet, though I think as I adjust I'll love it even more. It's also a neck through build if that's a factor for you. It's also surprisingly light which I very much like. I did have to set it up after arrival as the B and E string were almost unplayable from a low action, A needed some tweaking, but D and G were oddly perfect. Fortunately it was shipped with the proper tools and I was able to fix that without too much trouble. Also one of the knobs had come loose but that's another easy fix with the included tools. Though full disclaimer if you order a bass online from a major retailer and expect it to ship perfectly...well, prepare for disappointment. Also worth note I have the crimson red variety and as another reviewer mentioned it is not nearly as bright as the picture shows...It's a much more dull red, but I actually like it even more, it stands out without standing out too much. However if you're looking for a bass that POPS more like the picture this might not be it. But the range of sound is fantastic, from deep sustain to classic 70s, it might take some playing around with but you're sure to find the tone you're looking for. It is exactly what I was looking for so I have no complaints, I wish it was at least a little better setup on arrival but it's not a huge deal and that will vary per person. As long as you're not looking for a bass to slap on I definitely recommend the Hellraiser Extreme! Did I mention it's gorgeous? Cause it's gorgeous. PS For anyone who might be shopping around for a new bass I had tried out a Schecter Evil Twin 5 before this. Both of these are fantastic, however that one had a few blemishes on it so I decided to send it back and instead of instantly replacing it decided to try the Hellraiser. I'm glad I did, though the differences aren't huge. The ET might be a tad heavier, but if I had to choose one major difference I'd say the ET has a slightly "fuller" sound while the Hellraiser seems to have better sustain, and while I maybe slightly prefer the pickups on the ET, these are similar and it's nothing game changing. Honestly if it weren't for those blemishes I'd probably still be using the Evil Twin...but 0 regrets in switching them out. So if you are trying to decide between the two, like I was, I would say choose the one with the look you like more. ... show more

  • Worked out beautifully. Totally worth it.
Color: CRBS Style: HELLRAISER EXTREME-5 LH
As a Left Handed Bassist, you know there are very few quality bass guitars available. For over 30 years I have had to "Buy Before I Try" hoping that it will all work out. Well, as you may know, it usually doesn't. This purchase, on the other hand. worked out beautifully. Totally worth it. Set neck construction, neck is perfectly straight and very stable, fast thin neck, fretwork and ebony fingerboard are outstanding with no dead notes, binding is fantastic, MOP is great and really pops under the lights, ultra access heel feels wonderful offering full access in the second position, electronics are fat and versatile, instrument balance is perfect, absolutely zero neck dive, the instrument stays in place based on how you position it on your body, The satin finish is great, however, I will say this, the pictures shown do not accurately reflect the actual color scheme of whats happening. The color is actually much darker than pictured, the red doesn't stand out as much as you might think. The reason I didn't buy this instrument much sooner was specifically because of the red color...I don't like red. Upon receiving I can say I am very happy with the color. Looks more like a satin burgundy with black burst edges, overall much darker and I like that. I only wish Schecter offered this is the trans black for lefties. Oh well, we lefties get the short end of the stick all the time...Haha Bottom line is this...... This bass is built solid and blows away anything out there in that price range for a set neck instrument, in fact, I don't think you will find a set neck left handed 5 string bass for anywhere near this price. I dare say that this bass plays better than my boutique bass. Note: I own the bolt on version of the same instrument as well and the comparison is night and day. They both look similar but are quite noticeably different...in a good way. If you are a "buy before try" kind of guy then I think you would make a solid decision in purchasing this instrument. Excellent bass. ... show more

  • Great bass
Sounds and feels like an expensive bass.

  • Super Nice. Amazing Sound.
Fantastic Bass. Quality and sound are superb. Everything is beautiful, from the ebony fret board to the dynamic "extreme" electronics package. Quality throughout, South Korean Luthiers to rival Japan, I'd say...soon ;). Buy with confidence, I got mine "used" from Amazon and it was a wonderful buying experience. Even at new prices, I feel you will not find a better sounding, quality crafted instrument, and it arrived professionally set up by the guys at Schecter in California. I am truly impressed and have since bought another bass from Schecter. Buy it! ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised with the quality and sound.
I own an American Dimension Deluxe by Fender and the ESP Rocco Prestia's signature 5 string bass, but this Schecter blows them both away in sound and structure. 18 volt, coil taps, neck through the body, Grover tuners and a fat bridge. Most importantly, the B string is solid and there are no weak spots on the neck on the 35" scale. More than happy with this purchase and the price. ... show more

  • Solid, Very Well Made, Boomy Low End Sound, Minimal String Options
Color: CRBS Style: HELLRAISER EXTREME-5
To sum it up best, it’s a very boomy low end bass. Great clean tones, distortion and overdrive sounds take a lot of EQ and fooling around with to dial in a good balance. The Bass has a tendency to really push your lows and low mids, making it hard to cut through drums and add distortion to complement guitars for metal. Biggest thing to know with this Bass, it specifically recommends using the Ernie Ball Super Long Scale strings “130 gauge”. You cannot put any string gauge over 130 on this Bass. So if you like the design and we’re thinking man I gotta try some drop C or F# stuff on this beast, then this Bass is not for you. I’m sure you can get modifications done, but then it voids all warranties on it, and you’ll notice the neck board Bow over time. Overall all, solid, really nice looking Bass, great Low End, limited string options and tunings. ... show more
