  • True Remark
Pattern Name: Desk
Most of the negative remarks are about the weight (200+ lbs) or the instruction to put it together so I will address that first. This is my first Sauder product. I am a self proclaimed expert at putting together things especially ikea products and I have many of them. The desk is heavy which is a GOOD THING otherwise people will say it is flimsy. I will agree that the instructions to put it together do need some work. It took me 2+ hours to put it together Currently you have to work on 1 item put it aside and start to work on second and then third, all separate items. It would be better if you have 1 piece as a base then start to build on it so you don't have to constantly move from piece to piece individually and then put them together. Now let's move on to real issues (my reason for 3 stars). I have to say their customer service (Family owned company) is awesome and they tried to assist in the best way possible (I had shipping damage related issues). The workmanship on the edges as a whole is very poor OR it is a process defect that Sauder needs to address. I "assume" Sauder uses a VERY thin veneer which peels off at the edges especially when the edge is not smoothed over. In my opinion it will be better if the edges were to be sanded down to a tapered or rounded edge. (See Pic 1) notice the lines on the beveled edge? these are razor sharp and will give you a "paper cut" if you are not careful. Also (see Pic 2) which is of the Table top itself with the edges already showing. Secondly, some of the pre-drilled holes are too big for the screw head and if you are not careful (DO NOT USE DRILL) the screw will go right inside it. (see pic 2) ALSO, notice the rough part around the edge? that is how it comes to you. I should mention that Sauder is sending me some Color Markers so that I can color in/on the edges, but I am not sure how well that is going to look. The drawer rails hardware although is of finer quality, but again once you put in the drawer itself the rails do not work as well. All in all, it is a nice looking desk for the money. ... show more

  • Not bad for the price, but...
Pattern Name: Desk
The directions are very well explained however if you follow them you will have difficulty when it comes to attaching the end pieces. The ends have screw-type-parts sticking out on 2 sides which makes it impossible to point some down into the holes while also sliding it sideways into other holes. You will eventually crack the wood (see photo). I did find a better way to do this. Rather than set the hub of the screw-type piece into the wood I placed the actual screw threads into the holes on the bottom and then slid the whole piece into place... side screws matched up and the bottom simply had to have the hubs pushed back into place. Easy peasy but not listed this way in the direction. Due to the issues I had while trying to attach the end pieces I have one file drawer that is not aligned properly (see picture). I will not take it apart to correct this because the wood is not intended to be assembled more than once. It will crumble if I try it. The misaligned drawer works so it's good enough for me. I am a bit disappointed but I have to remember that I only spent $238 on this. I got the quality that I paid for. ... show more

  • New Home Office Purchase
Pattern Name: Desk
I purchased the desk for a new work at home position and I absolutely love it, however the one thing that bothers me continuously, is the fact that it shows fingerprints. By the end of the day the desk looks horrible. I keep a microfiber cloth close by, to constantly wiping the fingerprints off the finish. What can I do you are use on this desk to remove these fingerprints permanently? I will change my rating to a five if this could be remedied. I purchased several matching pieces and fear after work I will have to wipe down my office. ... show more

  • Significant time to assemble but the finished product worth the effort
Pattern Name: Desk
Most of those who wrote the hours it took to assemble were spot on and the sheer weight of the unit made it difficult to work. One assembled you love the weight. I have assembled many pressed wood products and most all felt flimsy and not long for the world. Not so with this desk. It feels like it's built to last. Granted moving it several times would be a challenge but for my purposes it will be where it is for years and I have full confidence it will last it. The desk is beautiful to see and both the file drawers will replace to file cabinets I had. I have on the desk two laptops a monitor and an Ion turntable and it's deep enough for me to still write on and not look cluttered. My only suggestion is to replace the two top drawers that have the false front appearing to be four drawers with actually four drawers to have more storage space. Overall this is the most pleasing Sauder product I've purchased. ... show more

  • Great Desk
Pattern Name: Desk
Love this desk. Delivered with no issues, I was hesitant after reading some other reviews, decided to go for it. Super heavy, put together well. I consider myself above average assembling furniture and this took me a solid 3 hours. I would also add, definitely don't try assembling if you've had a bad day or have a house full of kids screaming, it really does require some time with the instructions. ... show more

  • Insufficient Drawer Space
Pattern Name: Desk
Assembly instruction is not clear. Drawer rail installation is very poor. It only opens half-way. Also advertising photo shows three handles on each side but be aware, it has only total of four drawers. Two drawers on each side. Middle drawer is for keyboard. Two bottom drawers for file cabinet. And two top drawer on each side has two handles but it is only single drawer. So don't be fooled. If I known if it had only 4 drawers, I would not have purchased this desk. Top drawers is too deep so its use is very limited. ... show more

  • Great Desk
Pattern Name: Desk
Love this desk. My husband and brother put it together, (sure glad my brother was here). It is beautiful. This sturdy well made desk is exactly what I needed. With 2 file drawers, the pull out keyboard is perfect. With the keyboard pull out closed it just looks like another drawer. One more plus on this desk was the delivery. The two men who delivered it were the best! They brought it right into my home and put it right where I wanted it. Both were courteous and professional. What a bonus. I couldn't be happier. ... show more
