  • Shelves sag under the weight of hardback books. Disappointing.
Color: Salt Oak Pattern Name: Bookcase
The finish is nice and complements similar woodwork in our home. Arrived in decent packaging and all components were there and in good condition. However, after assembling and placing hardback books on the shelves, I found that a solid row of books makes the shelf bow! Not the quality I was expecting but I guess that is what is available at this price range. I am planning on putting support dividers between shelves. What a pain. ... show more

  • Fantastic product
Color: Lintel Oak Pattern Name: Bookcase
Precisely cut and drilled. Every part fit perfectly. Bought two units for dining room. Added 1x2 wood braces under each shelf toward back. Added metal L bracket to units in corners behind front trim so not seen. As you assemble, use a right angle square to constantly keep everything straight. After both units done, placed them beside each other and lined up front trim. Used clamps to squeeze them together in front. Drilled pilot holes top middle bottom one inch behind front trim so not seen. Used 1 1/4" screw with washer to fasten the units together. When finished, looks great. Including all extra support material, $300. Wow. ( FYI...here is quick method for adding braces. Use poplar or oak 1x2 wood which is actually 3/4" thick. Cut length same as braces that are supplied that slide onto front of each shelf. Measure 1 3/8 from back of each shelf and drill hole in center and one 4" from each side. Use drill bit same size as your wood screws and counter sink holes from top of shelf. Use screw 1 1/4" long deck screw with phillips head in grey color to match bookcase. When done you won't see screw heads on shelf. Turn shelf over and put wood brace on edge 3/4", center side to side and simply position it 1" from back of shelf. This will center it under holes you have drilled. Use clamp on each end of brace. Turn shelf over with brace clamped. Take drill bit half the thickness of screws and drill down from top through countersunk holes into support boards. You only want to drill 1/4" into brace to give screw a start. Take grey deck screw and drill down from top of shelf through into brace, in three holes. Remove clamp. Because the hole in shelf is same size as screw, this allows brace to pull up tight on its own. When putting brace on very top of unit cut the brace board the full width of inside measure, because that brace can be seen and it gives a finished look. For that one brace, I chose an oak board and sorted through all to find one that was grey and not red. Hope this helps for those wanting a heavy duty unit. The bookcase leans nicely backward against wall. I located wall studs and drilled through brace I added under bottom section and screwed units to wall. Looks built in.) ... show more

  • Terrific, BUT difficult.
Color: Select Cherry Finish Pattern Name: Bookcase
PROS (5 stars): 1. It fits a lot of items. 2. The Instruction Booklet states that it can hold up to 180 lbs of stuff. 3. It is tremendously sturdy once its assembled. CONS (1 star): 1. It is a pain in the a** to put together. One of the parts (END MOLDING letter "K") did not want to stay connected. Luckily it served only an aesthetic purpose and did not support the shelf. So I rigged it up the other way and it stays fine. 2. It requires quite a bit of space to put together. Make sure you have a large work area while assembling it. So you probably need like 12-15 feet work area. FINAL WORDS (3 stars): This is a wonderful shelf for tidying up any room. I would recommend the product to others. Just watch out for those END MOLDING parts, and you'll be fine. ... show more

  • Great product for the cost
Color: Select Cherry Finish Pattern Name: Bookcase
I ordered three of these bookcases. Two came rather quickly and were in perfect condition. The other came in a dented up, destroyed box with footprints on the boards. This was due to UPS delivery. I called Amazon immediately and they are sending out a replacement unit and paid for returned shipping on the damaged unit. As for the shelves themselves, I really like them. Assembly took some time, but I was able to put both shelves together in an afternoon. The directions were clear and easy to follow. Once assembled, the shelves look really nice and were quite sturdy. I can't wait until I have the third one to fill the wall. ... show more

  • Very disappointed
Color: Lintel Oak Pattern Name: Bookcase
Only had books on my bookcase for a month and the shelves are starting to dip. Some hardcover and paperback books on each shelf and not a lot of weight. For the amount of money for these this should NOT happen and if it does, not after only having it for a month!! Very disappointed

  • The bookcase is divided into two sections, an upper ...
Color: Select Cherry Finish Pattern Name: Bookcase
The bookcase is divided into two sections, an upper section (3 shelving areas) and lower section (2 shelving areas). This bookcase requires screwing the top into a wall for support. If you do not screw to a well, the bookcase will not stand on its own without the top shelving unit and bottom shelving unit wobbling. After assembly, and seeing how wobbly it was, I didn't bother putting books because it would have fallen over. I just boxed it back up for return. The sideboards are really thin (5/8"), despite the picture giving the impression that the sideboard thickness is (2"). There is a 2" slide-over front that disguises the thin boards. It looks cheap, it is made of cheap material (particle board sides and shelve, with MDF slide-over coverings), and it is too expensive for what you get. ... show more

Beautiful bookcase for the price. Perfectly matches my 'grey wood' office furniture and holds TONS of books! VERY satisfied!

  • Good quality product - a 8/10
Color: Select Cherry Finish Pattern Name: Bookcase
PROs: This is a sturdy and beautiful bookcase. Quality of product is a bit more than I expected. No damaged parts. CONs: It was not too easy to setup but not hard either. Some parts didn't have labels on them or the labels are not easily seen. If you buy this, you will be hammering some nails (which is also fun for me) on the back board but everything is provided except, of course, the hammer and screwdriver. One of the wood parts is lacking some length (look at the pictures). I thought the shelves were thick 1 1/2 inches, but it's still sturdy. FYI: Each wood part except foe the front base too and base are atound 1/2 to 3/4 an inch. Remember to follow the instructions in the manual. ... show more
