  • Hazard not worth the price.
Color: Highland Oak Finish Style: Transitional
I’ve had this bookshelf for about a month and I came home from work today to find it had completely collapsed. The bookshelf was always pretty flimsy as the material is very cheap but collapsing out of nowhere is a lot even for a really cheap bookshelf. Definitely not safe, especially if you have pets or children who may accidentally knock it over. ... show more

  • I'm glad my kids weren't anywhere near it at the time
Color: Cherry Style: Bookcase
Do not buy this cheap piece of junk. It's basically pressed particle board and after less than 5 months of holding my books it fell apart while I was at work. I'm glad my kids weren't anywhere near it at the time. It's heavy but not heavy duty. I attached it to the wall but that even that wouldn't hold it up. Save yourself the headache of putting it together and having to carry it to the dumpster later. So disappointed. ... show more

  • Pros outweigh the cons. For the price it works fine.
Color: Highland Oak Finish Style: Transitional
These book cases are NOT meant to be top of the line so it is ridiculous to write a review from that point of view. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: Came packaged very well. All parts were included (which is a big thing when ordering cheap products.) Pieces fit well. Easy to assemble. Instructions laid out very well. Does what it is meant to do at a low cost. Cons: Backing is thin cardboard that tears easily. Has space for at least two more shelves but not provided. Overall this is completely fine to use unless you are a stickler with name brands or high quality. I actually buy these cases to use for my dvds. I am an avid movie watcher and collector. This purchase makes the fifth book case in this size which tells you how many movies I own Lol. ... show more

  • Don't buy it
Color: Cherry Style: Bookcase
I own many bookshelves. I bought this one to replace a smaller bookshelf in my daughter's room, only to discover once I had assembled it that it doesn't fit any more books that the one it is replacing. I know what to expect from an inexpensive bookshelf (cheap particleboard, fake-looking laminate, lame cardboard backing), but this set of shelves has other issues which make it not worth your money: 1) the cheapness -- the upper side of the top board and the bottom of the fixed shelf are not covered with the laminate that covers the rest of the particleboard bookcase. it's outrageous and looks awful. I've never experienced this in all of my years of assembling low-end bookcases. Who leaves expose surfaces as plain particleboard? I know it's intentional because it is marked in the assembly directions; 2) Because of where the fixed shelf is positioned (right in the middle), you are left with two shelves that a huge gap between them. It is space that would be better served by adding another shelf BUT the company won't provide one. I contacted them to order one and they said that their product is tested and approved for the original configuration only and they can't sell a new shelf. I guess I could have lied and said one was damaged, and maybe they would have sent a replacement. Instead, now I have to craft my own shelf, which is the last thing I feel like doing for this cheap disaster of a bookcase; 3) The sides consist of two parts that you connect with the fixed shelf (most likely easier to ship) rather than one long board. It's a little harder to assemble and creates the problematic issue of the position of the fixed shelf. I hate it. Just don't buy it. I wasted too much money on it and there's nothing I can do about it. Don't be me. Buy a slightly more expensive shelf which isn't as disappointing. ... show more

  • Not the Best Bookself...Quite the Opposite
Color: Highland Oak Finish Style: Transitional
This bookshelf is poorly constructed and is pretty much made up of particle board ready to disintegrate. The bookshelf is actually two smaller bookshelf modules that are placed one on top of the other. The result is a shakey bookshelf that should be fixed to the wall. The backing of the shelf is wood print on cardboard (?)...hardly any material that would stabilize the bookshelf. This bookshelf was a big disappointment considering that we had to wait more than a month for it to be delivered. I would never recommend this product to anyone. ... show more

  • Okay for light use. Disappointed
Color: Cherry Style: Bookcase
We purchased this in Cinnamon Cherry but as you can see it is almost black. In the right light you can see some red in it. It did not look right for the room that we bought it for so we put it in the guest room. Assembly of it was frustrating. The cam lock holes didn't line up properly with the 'matching' sides. The back is made of 2 pieces of flimsy cardboard, like you'd use for a science fair display. We had to make some panels out of foam board, covered them in fabric and slid them in and held them in place with nano tape. This isn't a solid unit like the 'DIY' bookshelves of yesteryear. This does not have solid, one panel sides: it is basically 2 units stacked on top of one another. There are small pieces of black tape dots to cover the screw holes. As this is made with particle board, if you make a mistake putting in the screws (we used many extra) or putting the nails into the backboard (really the only thing holding this square) then it will cause the interior to bulge and break. We're keeping this in the guest room where it will have only minimal use: a few books, tissue, some pictures, some decor and not much else. I'd also recommend anchoring this to a stud to prevent tipover. If you have small children that like to climb: do NOT buy this. the minute they step on a shelf, the entire thing may collapse on top of them. The shelves are only held up by small pins. All in all, I'd look for better quality. Sauder is not making sturdy bookshelves anymore. ... show more
