The Excursion is an excellent hiking shoe for the price. Lightweight, comfortable, good grip. I live in the desert and mostly hike steep, loose trails with a lot of sharp rock, and these shoes handle the terrain just fine. I’ve also hiked in them on several trails in Nevada, Idaho, and Alaska—zero issues. They are not waterproof, which is a good thing in my opinion since they drain water and dry out quickly. I pair them with waterproof socks to keep my feet dry. They do loose some grip on wet rock, which is not surprising, but have amazing grip on dry surfaces. I always swap out my insoles for wool insoles, but the insoles they came with are decent, although the arch is a little low. They do run about a half size small. These are definitely worth considering if you want a solid hiking shoe at a great price.

They are great but you need to size up half a size. Wish I would of known this as I needed them for my Spartan race and couldnt use no time to return them and buy another pair.

I purchase my shoes wide when possible as I have bunions and hammer toes. This shoe is wide and soft enough that I don’t need to have the wide size if it’s not available. Because I have these issues with my feet I wear out shoes faster than most. I wore these shoes everyday for a year and they held up just fine… nothing falling apart, nothing fraying, no holes. From a durability’s stand point - I could wear them longer but my person wear marks on the sole allow about a years worth of wear.
