I never review my Amazon purchases, but I'm so impressed with this one I had to say something. I had an old Dell monitor that I loved for its color accuracy, but after 12 years the backlight died on me and I had to find a replacement quick and on a tight budget. I caught this one on a limited-time sale for $100, but IMO it would still be an excellent deal at full price. 1. The included stand is the most adjustable I've ever seen out of the box. Notably, it can rotate into portrait mode in _either direction_ (clockwise or counter-clockwise), which doesn't sound super impressive, but it makes things like cable management and getting a good look at the inputs much easier, even if you don't intend to leave it that way. 2. The picture quality (and adjustability via the menu) is way above and beyond my expectations. Straight out of the box it had excellent brightness and contrast but the image was way too cool (par for the course, since default configurations are usually optimized for in-store displays where they're going to be overwhelmed by bright, cool fluorescent store lights). I was able to eyeball-calibrate it to match my primary display in less than 5 minutes using just the built-in menu options. I still need to dig my Spyder out of storage and give it a proper deep-dive software calibration, but already it's good enough that I'd be comfortable doing most of my design work on this display. 3. The included I/O options are excellent. Most of the displays you'll find in this price range only have 1 HDMI and 1 VGA (?!) input, which doesn't meet the bare minimum requirements for my home-office setup, where I need to plug my personal desktop in via DisplayPort and my work laptop in (through a DisplayLink dock) via HDMI or DisplayPort. This has 2x HDMI and 1x DisplayPort input for video, plus a headphone-out (for sending audio through the HDMI or DP inputs), and it can also act as a USB hub. While I would have loved some Mini-DP inputs and DP daisy-chaining support like my old Dell had, this is plenty sufficient for my setup, and, again, really atypical for the price range. ... show more

    • Good Monitor, Just a Couple of Quirks

This is a really nice monitor. It was very easy to set up. It weighs a lot less than the antiquated Samsung 4:3 monitor it replaced. The bezel is very thin, and color rendering seems excellent. There were no dead pixels. I also was pleasantly surprised to see a built in power supply instead of the ubiquitous "line lump." The user manual is for multiple models and I wasted some time looking for the menu access buttons to change sources, adjust screen settings, etc. It turns out that with this model everything is accessed via a joystick-style arrangement on the power button. No wonder I couldn't find any discrete buttons! Samsung should really put an addendum in their instructions concerning this. It should be noted that though the height shown is 19.59", this is with the stand fully raised. When it's fully collapsed, the actual height is much closer to 18". This might be important for someone whose available space is height constrained. The built in headphone output was recognized immediately as another audio device, with no driver installation required. Output level is more than sufficient for earbuds and even works well with full sized headphones. I listened to some uncompressed wave files and quality seems quite good.. There are only a couple of negatives that I've found so far. One is the placement of the USB and headphone ports; it is virtually impossible to connect to these without physically tilting the monitor up, and even then it's a hassle. Second, installation would look a bit cleaner if Samsung had supplied rear exit right angles on the monitor end of both the HDMI and Display Port cables. The power cable has a right angle connector on both ends, which is great for the monitor side but may or may not be an issue when you connect it to your AC outlet (I seem to find that these always want to interfere with other plugs, or point in the opposite direction to what you need). Good screen and very neat that you don't have to turn on and off. The monitor knows when my MacBook air is on and being used. When I lock the MacBook or it goes into sleep mode the monitor automatically shuts off. Comes back on in a few seconds after tapping a key on the MacBook. One bad thing is that there is no manual to explain the settings. I found one online at the Samsung website but it's not very useful or clear. ... show more

For some reason, a reason I may never know, samsung chuckleheads decided to first try to use Fedex to ship it to me. I pay for 2 day, it saiD 2 day, then what proceeded next was an entire week of my arrival date constantly changing, tracking nEVeR updating past label creation, then randomly after 6 days AFTER intial "arrival date" waiting, it changed from fedex to UPS and was promptly delivered 2 days after that. ZERO communication throughout, i nearly hit the refund button three times. DEsPItE that, the monitor works great, came miraculously unharmed and functional, the cord is tiny so had to buy a longer one, but the verticality, which is why i bought it, is simple and easy. To the dude who whined about flipping it vertical made the power button go to the top. flip it the other way.... ... show more

I purchased two of these monitors and they are great. The height adjustment was important for me and the displays also tilt and swivel if you like portrait mode. They are crisp and clear for my use in business and video conferences.

The monitor itself is great - clear picture, bright, plenty of ports for connecting devices. My only gripe, and the reason for writing this review, is because I purchased 2 of these, and BOTH had the lens not adhered to the frame at the top, causing some of the backlight to be visible outside of the display area. It only took a light press along this gap to make it adhere to what I'm assuming is double-sided foam tape, but this should have been done at the factory, not during setup.
