  • Ease of use
Have always loved Samsung products. Easy to set up. Sound quality is good. Quality of monitor is great and fits perfectly. The picture quality is crisp and clear. Connectivity was a breeze. I bought two to set up on my desk, love them so far. Only thing I do wish was that the base allowed for height change, other than that it is great. ... show more

  • Budget 1080p monitor that delivers at the price point.
The Samsung Essential S3 is a legitimately good budget monitor if you walk in with the right expectations. 100Hz refresh, a comfortable 1800R curve, and a crisp enough 1080p panel add up to a display that's easy to live with for the price. Not flashy, not premium, but it hits its mark. Let me get the honest framing out of the way first: this is Samsung's economy line. If you've been using a OLED, QHD, 4K (etc) panel and you're hoping this will match that punch, pump the brakes. The brightness, color depth, and overall visual drama just aren't in the same league. But that's not what this monitor is trying to be. It's aiming at "solid everyday display at a price that doesn't make you wince," and on that front it absolutely delivers. Setup was the easy part. Out of the box, clipped the stand on, plugged it in, and I was up and running without hunting through a manual. The 100Hz refresh rate is the headline feature for me. Going from 60Hz to 100Hz is one of those upgrades you don't realize you needed until you've had it for a week and then try to use an older screen. Scrolling, mouse movement, casual gaming — everything just feels smoother. For a budget panel, that's a big win. The 1800R curve is subtle enough for users that are new to the curve. It really does reduce eye strain, especially for entertainment. Again, the picture quality here is great for a 1080p monitor, but if you're expecting it to deliver visuals of much more expensive monitors you're going to be disappointed. For what this monitor is and the price point it's at, it's a solid purchase. THE GOOD STUFF: • Strong value per dollar, full stop • 100Hz refresh rate makes everything from browsing to games feel smoother • 1800R curve is comfortable without being over the top • 1080p image is clean and clear for everyday work and streaming • Eye-comfort features actually help during long sessions • Plug-and-play setup with straightforward on-screen controls ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT • Brightness and color depth sit well below Samsung's premium lineup, so shoppers expecting that "wow" factor should look elsewhere • The monitor stand only allows tilting so if you want more adjustments you'll need to go with a monitor arm and VESA mount. • 1080p on a 27-inch panel can feel soft if you're coming from QHD or 4K FINAL THOUGHTS: If you're building a budget setup, outfitting a secondary display, or just want a curved monitor that won't beat up your wallet, this one earns its keep. Go in with realistic expectations and you'll be happy. Go in expecting premium-tier brilliance and you're shopping in the wrong aisle. ... show more

  • Nicer Large Budget Monitor, but Stand Post is Frustrating
I’ve been using this monitor for a bit now, and overall I’m happy with it, especially for general use and the price point. The screen itself is solid. The 27" size and slight curve make it comfortable to use for both work and casual browsing, and the image quality is what I’d expect from a 1080p panel. The 100Hz refresh rate is also a nice touch as it feels smoother than a standard 60Hz display when moving windows or scrolling. Where this monitor falls short for me is the stand design, specifically the mounting post on the back. The vertical post that connects the stand to the monitor cannot be removed, which becomes an issue if you’re planning to use a VESA mount on a vertical post. Even though the monitor technically supports mounting, that built-in post sticks out far enough to interfere with certain VESA arms or brackets. In my case, I had to adjust my setup more than expected to get it to work (I ended up mounting the monitor upside down, which works but it is just a bit awkward), and it’s something I wish I had known ahead of time. If you’re planning to use the included stand, this won’t matter at all but if you’re using a desk mount or wall mount, it’s definitely something to be aware of. Aside from that, setup was straightforward and the monitor performs well for everyday tasks. It’s a good option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly curved display, just keep the mounting limitation in mind depending on your setup. ... show more

  • 1080p is the limiting factor, but it's an extremely convenient 27" display.
Short version: You gotta *really* commit to only having 1080p resolution, in this age, and if you are already accustomed to that most standard resolution, then this monitor is great. There are lots of corners cut to deliver an extremely economical panel, and none of them have to be deal-breakers. My main recommendation is "just don't pair it with anything higher res and you're good." Long-winded version: My favorite monitor broke about two months back, after only 5 months in service. It wasn't a Samsung brand display, and it was effectively the size of *two* 27" monitors strapped together. I was glad to pick up a very cheap replacement for half of it, and later in the month to pick up a less-cheap replacement for the other half. I was glad when I rigged up one and then shocked when I rigged up the other. This display is perfectly serviceable alone, but if you compare it head-on with a device that costs 2x, you'll see what a step up in brightness gets you, a step up in resolution gets you, and a step up in stand framing gets you. I loved that I could almost assemble this thing one-handed, in three pieces, and that setting it on my desk with the curved screen facing downward made mounting it a *cinch* because I didn't have to worry about anything touching the LCD panel. I loved that it doesn't waste my time with plastic accessory panels (like so many monitors come with non-functional rings bracketed on the back of the displays now) and I loved that the display could kick up to 100hz adjustment with the on-board heads-up-display. I love that the size matches the other display on my desk, but I don't love that it has effectively 33% less workspace or clarity. 1080p is okay for watching videos and movies on, still, if you can sit back and won't scrutinize every pixel. The monitor is perfectly competent, if a lightweight contender in any arena, and I can't fault it for any of the things that I'm mentioning here. It's a reputable name brand (Samsung makes LCD panels for soooooo many other products and brands out there, you're getting the good stuff *from the source* and with their warranty) with a reasonable price tag for a cozier office machine (curved screen means you're always in the center of the ideal viewing angle if you're seated at the correct distance). 5/5 Does what it says it will. ... show more
