We have Tumi, Briggs, and Riley carry-on and medium suitcases. They've taken a beating and lasted for two decades of heavy use. However, the pricing has been exorbitant recently, and spinner wheels are helpful. After being swayed by the Freeform's consistently high ratings in travel magazines, we decided to give it a try. Now, we own three 28-inch check-in suitcases and two 21-inch carry-ons in black. Their professional appearance, smooth rolling, durability, and reasonable pricing (especially during sales) make them a great choice. We load the 28-inch suitcases to the 50-lb limit and travel with them overseas. I use straps on them for peace of mind. They also help me identify them quickly and are another grabbing point when pulling them off carousels. We use the carry-on for 2-3 night business trips. I have another set of blue Samsonites from Costco, but I prefer the Freeform.

Overall I'm happy with this roll aboard. The Quality: This bag shows wear VERY easily. I decided to check the bag on a flight where I had 1 or 2 connections. By the time I got the bag back it already had a few very noticeable scratches and scuffs on it. If it is important to you that your bag looks new or nice for a long time you should look elsewhere. I don't mind, I like my things to look used and well worn but do not expect this bag to look pristine after even just 1 flight. I've been using the bag for a few weeks (taking about 2 flights a week) and haven't had any issues with the wheels, the handle, the zippers, or any other aspects of the bag. The wheels feel great, very smooth. The handle is nice and secure, it doesn't feel flimsy. The zippers and the TSA lock are a great addition. I am a bit concerned that if I check the bag again there may be a risk of an overzealous bag handler breaking it but so far I have had no issues with functionality or build quality (other than the cosmetic issues). The Size: I'm on a plane usually twice a week for work and to my understanding this is about the biggest size you can use as a carry on for domestic carry-on. That means that it has a lot of room but sometimes it's not going to fit in the overhead bins of a smaller airplane. This is fine since most airlines valet check these types of bags but it is something to be cautious of if you don't want to have to do that. I will also say that I've never had a problem with American Airlines or Delta telling me the bag was too big for a domestic carry-on. Obviously international flights are a different ball game. This bag has plenty of space for me to go on a 5-7 day trip. It would be nice if there was a dedicated spot for a laptop or quick access for electronics since it is a carry on but even without these features the bag is nice. Overall, I would recommend this bag if you're looking for something in this size. Personally I think I'm going to opt for a slightly smaller bag so I can take it as a carryon for both domestic flights and international but this bag is solid for what it is.

Gift for the GF. She loves it. She had an old roller carry on with bad wheels, when I had to roll the thing around on occasion I knew what wanted to get her for x-mas. This thing is super light and rolls with ease. It’s better for both of us. Great value, love the color, well built for how light weight it is. Your not going to find a better option under $150

After 22 years, the handle on my trusty Samsonite rolling garment bag (of identical dimensions and form-factor of this item) finally broke. The warranty on that bag was for 10 years, so a 22-year run was amazing. I purchased this bag to replace it, and I have no confidence that this bag will last anywhere near as long. - The skid plate across the bottom that protects the bag when dragged off of a curb or baggage cart is gone from the new model. I expect the cloth on the wheel side of the bag to fray and wear through. - The skid plates that protect the wheels from damage on baggage conveyor belts are gone. - The main handle is now just a piece of cloth rather than a solid handle. I had to wrap it in a pad so that it was not painful to carry. - The telescoping handle is now 3 inches shorter. The bag now hits the heals of my shoes as I walk with it and I have to crouch down while rolling it. - The interior "shoulder" pockets are much smaller and less padded and can no longer fit a shoe inside. In the older bag these pockets were ideal for carrying fragile items wrapped up in padding, inside a shoe, and inside a reinforced corner. They are much less secure now. - The wheels are of a smaller diameter and look to be less sturdy. - The zipper pulls are all smaller and the zippers themselves are less substantial and are thin plastic like you would find on a gym bag. Other reviews have noted that the zippers can break, so I am being extremely careful with them. The overall formfactor of this bag remains fantastic, but I expect to have to replace it again in just a few years, making it not a good value. There are other similar bags now, and I will likely shop other brands for my next purchase as the quality that Samsonite had at the turn of the millennium is just no longer there. July 2024 update: It lasted 6 trips. On the seventh, the hanger holder broke and it is now no longer a hanging garment bag, and is ready for the trash. Meanwhile, I was able to replace the handle on my now 23-year-old Samsonite bag with a length of cotton strap and it is now back in service as my main travel bag.
