  • The One I Always Buy and Recommend to Others
This is not my first Samlex power supply. I have chosen Samlex for a couple of reasons. They are reasonably compact. They are reasonably priced. They are designed for ham radio operators. Many switching power supplies emit switching noise into ham bands, but Samlex supplies are designed to keep the switching noise present in all switching power supplies out of the ham bands. Also, of the eight or ten Samlex supplies I have owned personally or used in various places over the past 20 years I have never known one to fail, including the ones that have been on powering my radios 24/7/365. When anyone askes me what power supply to buy I always recommend Samlex, and preferably the SEC-1235M because of the output level and the dual meters. ... show more

  • Nice compact supply and well built.
I've had this since my Icom PS125 gave up on me. Since I was already using a switching supply this was an easy choice and recommended highly by a friend. Over 2 years in service and not a blip. The fan never kicked in at my old location, but recently it has on occasion, and sensitive radio mics may pick up the fan noise. Due to the slim case they obviously can't use a bigger one that would be quieter. As for switching noise, none has been noted, and I've used it with rigs from HF through UHF. One minor thing is the strange posts used for the DC output, but I believe someone makes a pigtail that adapts them to the popular Anderson PowerPole connectors. Minor gripe and I'd almost forgotten about it. If I remember right Samlex did include connectors for bare wire at least. ... show more

  • Small is not always best. In my case the size of this power supply was perfect.
I have always been told that switching power supplies have a lot of noise in some receivers. I now have 3 of these power supplies on my HF radio, my VHF/UHF radio and a separate UHF radio. The HF radio is used exclusively on FT8 and has no problem except for atmospheric noise that I have no control on. The other 2 power supplies are used on FM radios who have some noise discrimination already. There are working very well for me. ... show more

  • Works great
Works very nicely with my IC-746PRO. No discernible hash noise whatsoever. Easily delivers the full current for my radio. I don’t notice an overly loud fan on the power supply. Seems reasonable to me. I would buy another one of these. Decent little power supply.

  • Good little power supply
Had to replace a 35 yo Astron Linear PS that was making to much buzzing noise from the transformer and taking too much space. This unit is small, very silent, and I did not find any switching RFI in my radio. (TS590SG) When the fan kicks in, it's a bitter louder than what I'd like, but it really does not happen very often. For the price, you cant ask much more. ... show more

  • Light weight and gets the job done.
I use this to power a Kenwood TS590SG, and it has performed well. No problems with the transceiver running at 100 watts. The fan is a tad loud, but it doesn't come on very often. I'm usually wearing a set of headphones when operating, so the noise isn't much of an annoyance. I've not encountered any RFI/QRN from the switching circuit. ... show more

  • Workhorse
I consistently run this at a 15-20 amp load. Fantastic power supply. I will strongly advise to run this device in a moderate temperature evironment as the instructions state. I found that if used at 80 degrees or above, the fan continues to run with no load and until the room cools down. Nothing wrong with device. You won't be disappointed. ... show more
