Description

A SABIAN-exclusive dual-lathing process results in a unique, intensely-cutting cymbal that delivers a quick burst of hi-frequency tone, filling the stage with huge, open sound. Most rock cymbals cut with focused high-pitched tone generated by the Bell. Not so the 18” SABIAN Freq Crash, where the cut is boosted by the exclusive dual-lathing. Time to get your Freq on! • Tends to warp when used as a thrasher.
Size: 18" Style: Freq Crash
I've been a Sabian customer for 30+ years of playing. They're second to none when it comes to brightness and cutting through the mix. This is a great cymbal and sounds fantastic. It's the perfect mix of warmth and brightness with the right amount of decay. Love it! However, I use it as my main thrasher/16th and 1/8 notes. So, it tends to warp out after a few hours of hitting it. I just form it back into shape, and it's been fine. I may repurpose it on another stand to avoid breaking it though. It just sounds so good, I'm hesitant to move it over! Would be 5 stars otherwise ... show more

  • Outstanding versatility in a rock or bigger sound setting.
Size: 18" Style: Freq Crash
This is a great cymbal for big sound but I don't think it's lower volume dynamics bring out the full character of it as well. It responds very quickly to the stick with an initially bright explosion but rapidly resolves into a darker decay and a beautifully mixed undertone. At low volumes it is purely a darker cymbal and the bright characteristics are much more subtle. The lathing on the middle layer is interesting, very scratchy and eats up the tips of my sticks (wood tip) if I play it frequently, and playing from the outside edge give too much wash for this to be a great sticking cymbal, however the bell sounds outstanding and has a crisp and clear punch in it. I have two set-ups and for my big kit I play pretty much nothing but rock and roll in every iteration it comes in and this cymbal absolutely made the first round draft as my main crash. I have no brand loyalty, my kit is covered with Meinl, Zildjian, Dream, Istanbul, and Sabian cymbals and this is my favorite new addition. For anyone who likes bigger crashes with faster decays and a wide dimension of sound this cymbal would be an outstanding choice! ... show more

  • Dark, Long lasting tone
Size: 18" Style: Freq Crash
I've been a professional drummer for 28 years. I have A LOT of "top tier" cymbals. I have mainly been a Sabian customer for the last 10 years, but have several Zildjian K's A's and A Customs. This is a really nice cymbal. It's gives a dark full tone with a long decay. You can ride the bell and it will give you a dark cutting dry short ding. When I need to make a bell sound but don't want any ride wash, I go to this cymbal. I've played this cymbal in several environments and situations and it doesn't disappoint in a small or large room. Lightly played, the cymbal gives full low undertones and when it's time to let lose it can be commanding with it's low dark punch. When you hit this cymbal with a smaller cymbal, it fills up the space VERY nicely, it really is my new favorite cymbal to hit with a 16-17 inch or when I need a solid dark statement. ... show more

  • This cymbal is darker than described (that's a good thing!)
Size: 18" Style: Freq Crash
I was skeptical when I read the description of this cymbal. I play a kit with dark cymbals, Zildjian K custom Darks. So I wasn't looking for a bright cymbal. I wanted an 18" crash, and went into the store expecting to buy a K custom dark crash. Well long story short, the drum guy there had me try this cymbal. Holy cow, yes the attack is bright, but it immediately resolves into a rich, dark decay similar to the Zildjian K line. I loved the cutting attack on this cymbal, and ended up walking out with it. First Sabian cymbal I've ever purchased. Well worth it ... show more
