  • The P238 is a Beast
Just to clarify: the picture of the P238 box in the product description shows that there is 2,200 in lbs of torque which is equal to 183.3 ft lbs. Purchased this after owning the p237 (still works) for several years and using this predecessor to rebuild our home. The p237 has 1800 in pounds of torque and I drove hundreds of two and a half inch screws installing half inch plywood subflooring; it was like using a hot knife through butter. The p238 is even more powerful. Light-to-midweight. The variable switch is great and is very handy when not needing as much force such as driving drywall screws. Being brushless the P238 is significantly quieter than it's predecessor. It is also smaller, but not as small as many companies latest models. While not being the smallest model out there, the p238 is incredibly solid. I would have concerns with the sturdiness of some of the new small models should you drop them off a ladder but no concerns with this model. The P238 is a nice combination of reduced size, sturdiness (this sucker is a rock), and selectivity. Strongly recommended. ... show more

  • Nice Impact Driver
Works Great

  • Nice drill with plenty of power and reliability
I have an older Ryobi drill and it’s OK but it doesn’t have a lot of torque and really felt more like a light home-use tool. I had a set of Ridgid drills that I had been using for around 10 months and love those but my set got swiped from my truck and I didn’t want to spend $150+ per drill just to re buy since I hadn’t even had those for a year. I noticed a little while back that Ryobi had a refreshed, more powerful set of drills that case out since I got my lower end drills. This drill works well for me. I bought a 3aH battery for it and I use to to put lag bolts into roofing with satellite mounts and tightening grips/clamps on that kind of equipment and need something with a fair bit of torque. With 3 speeds/gears, I’m able to tailor my power to what I’m doing. On 2nd speed I tend to have most of the power I need, however I sometimes flip to 3 and that helps me push bolts through tough wood and there’s not much fight back when I do it. I would agree with anyone when saying Ryobi isn’t THE best drills out there but that’s not the point. This is a good value purchase - a balance of quality and price. You can spend $25-$75 more for a drill and you might get better power output and maybe some extra subtle bells and whistles but that’s it. Any drill that offers up to ~2,000 ft lbs of torque (give or take a couple hundred) are plenty powerful for my uses. If you really need maximum torque then you’ll be spending $150-$200 for your impact drills and this isn’t likely enough for you, but for most uses this drill gets it done. It’s not overly heavy nor is it ridiculously big - though it’s certainly not the most sleek power drill out there. I like it and the batteries tend to be more affordable compared to higher end brands. Ryobi is also reliable, in my experience, and haven’t had anything go wrong with the 3 different drills I’ve owned so far. I’m happy to get 3-5 years out of my drills and my first two that I’ve owned have lasted that long so I expect this one to last as long or longer given how much better put together it seems to be. Lastly, I love the LED lights when light is less abundant during the work day. ... show more

  • Works great for all around work
I refurbish houses and it works great for that so far in the month I've had it. Does not do good for mechanic work though. Tried taking some lug nuts off a rim and still had to break it by hand. As well as putting it on still had to hand tighten the lugs.other than that works great! I get a lot of daily use out of it and hasn't stopped on me yet . I do however use Milwaukee or DeWalt bits because the Ryobi bits become warn down with moderate use and I use my tools extensively every day. ... show more

  • Awesome impact driver even if it is old version
I bough this impact driver because I wanted it since I was buying ryobi tools that are brushless but I got the newer one that is the hp four mode impact driver but it is a great impact driver but I like the function of the old one that has the tri beam lights with the magnet tray for screws the new ryobi tools don’t have that anymore and got rid of it and this impact driver they don’t make them anymore I don’t know why but I do know that it does suck the battery life quite a bit like I tried to but a three inch screw into the wood that I was fixing a wooden gate and by doing one long screw with a 6ah battery it suck up on bar if it which I thought that’s crazy I guess that why they don’t make it or people use them for really hard task like putting long bolts that are bigger then 6 ins which is crazy and this impact goes up in smoke which I don’t understand and they don’t want to use a impact wrench which will make it easier and won’t burn up as easily as an impact driver which is ridiculous this impact driver should be for screws short and long and short screw bolts nothing more and it does have the power to do it it doing any long or bigger task ryobi impact drivers tend to get hot for over use and people called them useless tools well yes and no no it is not a bad tool but yes they are not all great but they are release if newer and better tools so you should give it a try. this impact is great and worth getting but not many are left but I recommend this impact driver. ... show more
