We had very thick soot stains after year of fireplace use on the glass. When I say thick I mean even razor blades were useless with other cleaners I got this - tried it and within seconds the soot was actually lifting from the glass. Now because it was so thick from years of use it did take many paper towels, BUT the glass when done looks brand new. This is an excellent product. It really cuts through heavy coatings of soot on fireplace glass. It makes cleaning my fireplace glass much easier than other products that I’ve tried.

Excellent product at breaking down coating on pellet stove window, but I don't recommend using a cloth, at least initially. I use a reusable nitrile glove to wipe it down slowly with Rutland cleaner until the coating dissolves, as a cloth absorbs too much cleaner before finished dissolving. After everything is broken down, then windex and a cloth can be used, or a little more Heartland cleaner if needed, to remove the coating or finish any final spots. ... show more

It's not often I'm impressed by a product, but I am impressed by this one. Recently installed a small wood stove where three sides are glass so you can really see the fire. I knew when I bought it that I would have to contend with the glass getting smoked over. I've been using the ashes plus a little water to make a paste, and it's been working pretty well, but kinda messy and took some scrubbing, but I thought I'd give this product a try. Just used it for the first time, as directed small a amount (dime size) on a damp paper towel. Rub vigorously. Almost immediately took smoke off, a little more rubbing creosote came right off. Immediately wipe with dry paper towel. Done. Glass seems clearer than when using ash paste, and much less messy. For three roughly 12"x12" glass panels used maybe a tablespoon of product at the most, probably less. I was hesitant to buy it because the ashes were free of course, but very glad I purchased it. The product supposedly leaves a silicon coating, preventing the smoke and creosote from adhering as tightly, making future cleanings even easier. Will have to see how it goes, but even if that part doesn't happen I'm very satisfied with this product, highly recommended. Update: been using about a month now. I use a little more than a dime sized amount for each piece of glass. As advertised, it gets easier each time you use it. A use a damp (not wet) paper towel and smoke a creosote comes right off, then follow-up with a dry paper towel. I've cleaned the stove several times over the last month and I've used about half the container ... show more
