  • Works great

No complaints, I’d buy again

  • Worked exactly as advertised.
Style: Machine
We installed the handle. Experimented a bit with the upside down paint to get the spray pattern we wanted and proceed3d to mark our parking lot. We did about 75 parking spaces with 6 cans of paint. Remarkably better and easier than we dared to hope.

  • Works very well.

It works very well and works fast but 4in lines is not what to expect.

  • Does the job
Style: Machine
We used to rent one of these after sealcoating our church parking lot. All of the rental centers in our area stopped renting them out. We tried doing some lines with homemade cardboard stencils, but it was very time consuming. Out of the box, I had to adjust the cable. It wouldn't spray paint with the factory setup. It works like a bicycle brake or gear cable. The fine tuning adjustment wasn't enough, so I had to loosen the nut and tighten the cable quite a bit to get it to work, but that only took 5 minutes. It does the job. I think it will last forever, it seems to be very sturdy steel construction. Easily compatible with the Rustoleum inverted spray cans, they just pop in and out, and are held securely in place. If you make a starter line of some kind, either with a chalkline, or using fishing line and two weights like I did, it's not hard to do good straight lines. I had no trouble with a little math even doing angled hash marks, etc. My only complaint is that when it's adjusted high enough to get full width lines (about halfway up), the lines come out a bit fuzzy at the edges. I guess the only way to cure that would be to put wide tape to mask it, which kind of defeats the purpose of saving time. Maybe some sort of guard could be on there to redirect paint, but I'm afraid that would collect paint and start to drip. I'm a perfectionist, and had to accept that the lines weren't going to have crisp edges like something I'd paint indoors. It is after all, just a parking lot, which is going to get driven on, snowplowed, have mudpuddles, etc., and from the street it looked perfect. ... show more

  • Never did the 4 inch line promised in the ad
Style: Machine
I was able to adjust everything based on the given instructions and at the highest adjustment instead of giving 4’ line it was barely giving a 2’ line. I used the correct spray can, from Rostoleum and it was correctly placed in the machine. It was unfortunate that all the investment and time that I put went to waste. ... show more

  • Does size matter: the four inch question
Style: Machine
So here's some clarification on the 2-4 inch question: the mount for the paint can moves up and down on the machine, and when it is moved up, you do get approximately a 4 inch width line--which leads me to believe that anybody who did not achieve this width was simply incapable of reading the directions to spin a couple of wing nuts and raise the lift on which the can is mounted. Another posibility is that they had their spray cans spun the wrong direction (as the tips on the striping cans are a long slit that should be properly aligned perpendicularly to the travel path of the machine--which is also in the instructions and easy to do). If the slit on the spray tip is placed parallel to the travel path of the machine then you would likely only get a very skinny paint line--though I don't know for sure because I read the instructions and didn't make that mistake. I have three convenience stores and each parking lot took about 2 hours with this machine, a few cans of paint each, a chalk line, a couple of tape measures, and a girlfriend--all available right here on Amazon, though not always at the best price. We completed the whole project for about $150, whereas professional striping would have cost me a few thousand. Now, it is not quite as good as the professional stuff, but it's good enough--especially considering the cost savings. It is possible to do a crooked line or to stop your painting too late and over-paint the line, but with caution none of your errors will be readily noticeable. Later in the day I had some winds pick up, and this did cause my lines to becoming a little blurry, probably made worse by having the machine set for the four inch stripe, which is the highest elevation and thus provides the most opportunity for the wind to disturb the paint stream. Again, a little blurry, but good enough--nothing to be ashamed of, anyway. I'd probably really give it four stars, but then I figured I had to do my part to counter-balance the ignorance of the illiterate who gave it one star because they couldn't paint a four-inch line--because they both lacked the intuition to adjust it properly and the ability to read, I presume (they must have had their moms write their reviews for them). I think, for all practical purposes, you don't need to read the instructions: if you just examine the machine and your paint can for a moment, you're likely to be in with the majority of people and to succeed in painting a four inch line. If you find out you're not, well then this machine was well worth it's price to teach you something else about yourself--so you should probably still give it at least four stars. Remember, rate the machine, not yourself. ... show more
