I have had this Rugged Ridge in my 2016 Wrangler JK 2 door for about 6 years. It installed easily and looks great. I love that I am able to connect my GoPro on the mount facing out the front window. As mentioned in the other reviews the part that holds the phone had rubber edges that didn't do a great job holding the phone so I have made some adaptions over the years. For a while, I cut off the rubber and added a magnetic phone holder and a metal disc in my phone case and that worked well until I upraded to an iPhone 12 mini and wanted to use MagSafe for charging so couldn't have the metal disc in the case anymore. I had the idea to find a magsafe charger with the same side ball mount as the Rugged Ridge. I scoured photos of chargers on Amazon and settled on this one from Hoseason https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1NTZ3QZ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details - IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!! I swapped out the charger head for the original on the Rugged Ridge and it looks and works seamlessly. I have yet to test it offroad but it feels really strong so I don't expect any issues. 4/2021 UPDATE: I now have a Galaxy S10+ with a wallet case. It constantly falls out due to thickness. (It holds the phone fine without a case.) The holder shakes horribly from coming loose. It is a pain to take apart (you have to in order to tighten). My phone now falls out regularly (even without the case) due to the shaking. I quit using it when offroad completely - I don't even mount the GoPro to it anymore unless I take the time to tighten it. 9/2017 - Almost a year later and several off-road trips, I'm still happy with my purchase. It has loosened itself a bit. I took it off, tightened the part that holds the phone and re-installed it. I noticed it left marks where the hard plastic meets the soft. I'm not too worried since I hadn't planned on permanently removing the mount. Just a heads up in case that is something that is important to you. There are several reviews that talk about fixing that issue though... 4/2017 - I have taken it off-road several times and it works great. The mount vibrated with the car (as expected) but the phone held snug and my go pro took great video. (I attached a pic of the adaptor I had to buy to use my go pro.) Just got it and installed it in less than 5 minutes. Holds my Samsung Galaxy S6 and Otterbox nicely. Happy so far, will update after taking the JK off-road. See if it holds the phone snugly or if it vibrates and falls. I recommend this product. ... show more

It's quite expensive, but I guess it's made specifically to fit perfectly in a Jeep Wrangler, so the price makes sense as it's not suitable for any other vehicles and is technically a custom design for us. The install was a piece of cake, but like most reviewers stated, it'll scratch your dash. The scratch will make you a bit uneasy at first, especially if it's a brand new Wrangler like mines was, but after a couple of weeks I completely forgot about it and you really can't see it unless you remove the mount. As for functionality, I guess I should have thought more about it before making the purchase; it is quite high and at an arms length away from the driver's seat. As a pure GPS mount, it's quite good (but I already have the uConnect GPS). As a dash cam type of mount, it's very stable, not shakey at all, and is directly in the middle at a very good height for a dead-on centered point of view. As a phone holder for changing music, it's quite far and your arm will get tired if you're looking through your phone for music or text messages (if you text and drive). Fit = 9.5 Quality/build = 9 Functionality = 7 (in my particular case) ... show more

Got my item today. Super fast delivery with no problems what so ever. I was scared before buying this product as alot of comments claim that it's low quality and it broke or scratched their dash board. well let me clear things out for you incase you are still considering. - Will it scratch my dashboard : No, and you do not need to sand anything before you instal it, the product has clean cuts and fits in with no problem. just make sure you insert the front part first then slowly push to the front so that the back hooks would fit into the grill. No scratches, nothing, just needs abit of common sense with more brain than physical power ;) - is it really low quality : I have tried many phone holders for my JK, nothing can hold a phone in it's place on a JK wrangler unless it's made for it. it's hell of a bumpy ride. Rugged Ridge is a company that holds a good reputation for the accessories they produce for jeeps. The item is plastic after all so again use your common sense. If you leave any plastic in the sun for a long time it will get weaker, so unless you decide to get a metal phone holder this is your best bet. it looks like it's good quality plastic, the company has a good reputation and hey, it's made specifically for your car. - What if it breaks after a while ? well you dont have to get the whole kit again, the ball is universal and you could fit any other holder that fits on a universal ball onto it or just go with rugged ridge again as they provide just the phone holder part with a much lower price as an accessory. Hope that cleared things out. and again, please use your brain more that physical power. after all, it's free ;) ... show more
