Description

The best-selling dinnerware pattern in the world, the Old Country Roses pattern is practically synonymous with the name Royal Albert and a long-standing testament to timeless style and elegant craftsmanship. This 3-Piece Tea Set features a Teapot, Sugar Bowl and Cream Jug all decorated with the Old Country Roses' signature motif of burgundy, pink and yellow roses, accented with lustrous gold banding. Designed originally in 1962 by Harold Holdcroft, Royal Albert's Old Country Roses has become one of the most popular china patterns in the company's century-long history. The sumptuous design is enhanced by the sophisticated shape, graceful floral ornamentation, rich feminine colors, and a style and elegance that are uniquely English. This matching 3-piece tea set from Royal Albert beautifully complements the entire line of Old Country Roses tableware pieces. The classically shaped 6-cup teapot, 10-ounce sugar bowl, and 8-ounce creamer, each are regally edged with a hand-trimmed border of 22-carat gold. With matching rounded bowls and ornately fashioned handles and spouts, each piece in the set also stands upon a small footed base. The crisp whiteness of the bone china gracefully showcases the decorative pink and golden yellow country roses as they cascade down the side of each vessel. Set on a bed of greenery, the delicate flowers resemble those growing in a classic English garden. The 6-cup teapot stands 8 inches high and measures 10-1/2 inches from handle to spout, the 10-ounce sugar bowl stands 4-1/2 inches high and measures 5-1/2 inches from handle to handle, and the 8-ounce creamer stands 4-1/2 inches high and measures 4-3/4 inches from handle to spout. While the set is dishwasher-safe, for best results, Royal Albert recommends washing fine china by hand. --Lea WerbelWhat's in the Box 3-piece tea set. • Beautiful Teacup and Saucer Set
Style: OLD COUNTRY ROSES TEACUP & SAUCER SE...
I read all the Amazon reviews for this Royal Albert Old Country Roses teacup and saucer set, and decided to buy the set. This set arrived a couple of days ago, and it is beautiful. Like another Amazon reviewer, Denise, wrote, this, too, is my first Royal Albert teacup and saucer set. I don't own many pieces of fine china teacup and saucers. After the Royal Wedding of William and Kate, I thought to myself, why don't I have my own fine china teacup and saucer set? In the past, I bought teacup and saucer sets for other people, but not for myself. This teacup and saucer set arrives in a nice Royal Doulton box. There were no chips or defects with this china set. The gold trimmings on both the teacup and saucer add extra elegance and beauty. And the old country roses design is pretty. I like that there is a miniature pattern of the old country roses inside the teacup as well. It adds some extra visual dimension to the teacup. Like another Amazon reviewer, M. Knock, wrote, the only downside to this teacup and saucer set is that there is no "Made in England" stamp on the bottom of the teacup or saucer. Both the bottom of the teacup and saucer are imprinted with: "Old Country Roses, Royal Albert, Bone China, 1962 Royal Albert Ltd". I looked on the outside of the Royal Doulton box. It says, "Made in Bangladesh". Nonetheless, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. And this teacup and saucer set is reasonably affordable! Like I said before, it was the Royal Wedding of William and Kate that inspired me to get this teacup and saucer set, but for some reason, this teacup and saucer set looked familiar to me. I remember seeing some celebrity drinking from this exact same teacup and saucer set. I then thought, who is a celebrity who has been photographed a lot with many teacups in the past? I then immediately thought about Lady Gaga and how she always has a teacup with her everywhere she travels because it makes her feel at home and grounded, and reminds her of her past daily tea time with her mother. She also believes in reducing waste, and thus drinking from fine china teacups means that she doesn't have to throw away plastic/styrofoam/disposable cups. Lady Gaga is so infamous for always drinking from a teacup that she has Facebook pages dedicated to her teacup(s), and fans have been known to buy or make special teacups for her when they attend and meet her at her concerts. Even Sir Elton John gave her a vintage tea piece set. I found out that Lady Gaga drank from the Royal Albert/Royal Doulton Old Country Roses teacup and saucer set at the 2010 Grammys. Since I can't link pictures from other websites to this Amazon page, go to Google's search engine and type "Lady Gaga", "2010 Grammys", and "teacup", and then click on any of the OK! Magazine or Zimbio.com links with the topic of Lady Gaga taking teacup to Grammys. And you will see some pictures of her with the Grammy Awards audience seated with this teacup and saucer set in her hands, some including pictures of her talking to singer Celine Dion. The best page is gagafashionland - type "gagafashionland.com/category/teacups/ in the URL and you will see some teacups Lady Gaga owns with the Royal Albert Old Country Roses Teacup and Saucer at the top of the page. Just another amusing fact about this Royal Albert/Royal Doulton teacup and saucer set! Last night, I drank some Numi Moroccan Mint Tea with this teacup and saucer set, and it was actually fun to be drinking from this fine china teacup and saucer set! ... show more

  • Pretty, but don't compare it to English-made Old Country Roses..
Style: OLD COUNTRY ROSES TEACUP & SAUCER SE...
Two decades ago, I brought back a Royal Albert Old Country Roses teacup from England. My teen daughter mentioned recently how much she loved the pattern, so I decided to start building her fine china set. I bought this teacup and a 3-piece tea set and plan to continue purchasing pieces in the next couple of years. First of all, this "teacup" is shaped more like a coffee cup. I checked the Royal Albert site, and they also market this item as a teacup. My original English teacup has a much wider rim, which is more usual. (Coffee cups traditionally have upright sides, while teacups are more triangular, with a narrow base and a wide rim.) The gold rim is adequate and stylistically blends with my English piece. Other reviewers have mentioned that the little details are disappointing. I agree. If you look at the photos (English cup on the left, this cup on the right), you'll notice the colors in the English cup are more vibrant, with a hand-painted appearance. This cup is still pretty, but the colors look flat in comparison, more like screenprinting than painting. The English cup has a noticeably fluted top edge, where this cup sports a very subtle flute that seems more like a manufacturing defect than a purposeful detail. The English cup includes sprays of roses all around the inside rim, while this cup includes only a single spray. This cup's logo is off-center, as well. Incidentally, the logos and text on the English cup and this one are identical, except that the English cup uses more vibrant colors. They both read, "Old Country Roses, Royal Albert (R) Bone China, (c) 1962 Royal Albert Ltd." My English cup was made c.1994, and this cup was presumably made in 2017 or 2018. I wondered, have I been duped? Is this a real Royal Albert item? I purchased the tea set, shown in the background of one of the photos, from a large, trusted retailer. The colors and details are exactly the same as on this cup, and they are equally inferior to my English-made cup. I also checked the design against the Royal Albert website. I'm afraid Royal Albert is simply producing lower-quality items these days, with fewer details and [presumably] less expensive manufacturing processes. If you've never seen English Royal Albert Old Country Roses, you will love this teacup/saucer set. If, like me, you own English pieces but are helping someone build a new set, you will likely have to grin and bear the drop in quality. It's a well-made item, objectively speaking, and it appears to be authentic and of first quality. If you are looking to replace a piece in an English set, you might want to search for an English-made replacement, although it might not hurt to buy this cup/saucer set for the sake of comparison. ... show more

  • Delightful gift, well packaged
Style: OLD COUNTRY ROSES TEACUP & SAUCER SE...
This beauiful style of pattern that I have admired for a long time. I worried about the sheerness that the cup or saucer might break while being shipped. The packaging was sturdy with a lovely box inside enclosing the items that could have been used to give as a gift without re-boxing. I made a mental note to use as a future idea but this one was my long wanted addition to my cup collection. There were no cracks, scratches, or breaks because the cup and saucer were each in a separate, well-shaped section of the gift box. A nice gift for someone in the future. ... show more
