  • Just as cute in person.
Color: City in the Sky
The media could not be loaded. I enjoyed putting this together and love listening to it. It was really straight forward for instructions. It got difficult with the smaller details and took some force to push together sometimes. I think it turned out great and plan to buy a different music box next.

  • Castle in the Sky fans buy this
Color: City in the Sky
I painted mine because I wanted to make Laputa from the Studio Ghibli film Castle in the Sky. I was OVER THE MOON when I finished! The music box plays the theme from the movie!! What a delightful surprise after 5 hours of work. The second layer didn’t want to click in so I glued it down but it seriously couldn’t be better for what I wanted ... show more

  • You need fine motor skills and lots of patience
Color: City in the Sky
I bought these music box kits- 4 of them 2 metal ,2 wood. I had planned to do them (wooden) with my granddaughters as a fun project together and then give two(metal) as gifts to them. They are 12 and 15 years old and when younger were fans of Legos. I am a crafter who makes jewelry and gourd art. My youngest and I opened one of the wooden ones and after working for awhile on step one we gave up . Difficult and pretty time consuming. So I returned one wooden one and one metal one and decided to make one each for each girl myself. I have been working on the wooden one( the one pictured) here for several hours -about half way thru. Ran out of glue provided need about twice what comes with the kit. It is fragile to work with . When it is done, I think it will be pretty for sure and I just hope the music box and mechanism work when I am done. Fingers crossed. Will let you know. Will send picture-eventually. ... show more

  • Beautiful and definitely recommend
Color: City in the Sky
The media could not be loaded. I love it so much. It took about 5 hours? Maybe less. I would recommend super glue so it's more sturdy and to shorten the weight time. It's beautiful I would recommend for people who want enjoy putting stuff together or assembling. You look at it and hear it and feels so proud of yourself. ... show more

  • Lots of gluing
Color: City in the Sky
There is a lot of gluing. Like a ton. I have to glue a part and wait for it to dry before moving on. Also if you don’t glue some pieces perfectly they won’t fit in later on. Other wood puzzles like this don’t use glue and they snap into place and feel secure. All the glue and not enough snapping makes it feel weak. Try another brand. ... show more

  • Lovely and fun to assemble
Color: Vintage Gramphone
I like that it comes painted as once it is assembled you are finished and it looks beautiful! I could never add those kinds of details myself. Actually, my 11 y.o. daughter assembled this completely by herself and did a fantastic job. Looks great on her shelf, even if she has never seen a real phonograph or record in person. ... show more

  • Soooo much work but worth it!
Color: City in the Sky
I am blown away. I got this for my little girl's birthday because it reminded me of a game we like (Monument Valley). We are all just completely taken with it. PROS: They truly thought of everything when designing this music box!! There is a hidden staircase that takes the viewer up to the tree at the apex. The little buildings, gates, etc. around the perimeter only have a few repeats. The pillars are doubled up so that they have depth and "lit up" windows. There are tiny little turrets that you add jutting out. They provide individual blossoms to punch out and place around as if they have fallen from the tree. Anywhere that a little piece hangs down from the others, the makers painted the opposite side too. It's just insane attention to details. (PS - The petals are paperboard treated to be opalescent!) Each one will be somewhat unique and there is a great deal to take in. My daughter started at in in wonder while I was building, creating a little story in her head. It was exactly what I had hoped for in that regard. The pieces punched out easily for the most part. I only had a couple break but they repaired easily with the provided glue. CONS: It took me a solid 4 hours to put this thing together. The instructions are pretty good but the schematic nature of them is inherently complicated. I ended up finding a video on YouTube of someone putting it together. They did one part wrong (used dowels instead of filament to put the floating clouds together). Overall, it was a big help to SEE it going together. I could not get their website to load the video that was supposed to be there to help with construction. It is FRAGILE. If you don't twist the music box apparatus from the sturdier parts, it will break very quickly. The tiny dowels holding up the contraption will snap if twisted, I'm sure. This design would have been way better with a twist "key" instead of having to turn parts of the whole build in opposite directions. You do have to put all those tiny, unique pieces in the right place (at least the buildings) or it will not fit together properly. I suggest dry-fitting and then going back in with the glue. ... show more

  • Flimsy basal wood, many broken parts
Color: Vintage Gramphone
This is a very cute idea however the basal wood pieces for the horn part were incredibly difficult to put together and also half of the pieces easily broke. The girl barely screws into the music box so she turns very wonky. All in all disappointed with this purchase. Not worth the amount I paid. Only able to assemble half of the music box as the horn pieces were incredibly flimsy and far to intricate to assemble with how in sturdy the material is. ... show more
