First 10 minutes of wearing them I had to cut the back off off the right shoe to keep it from cutting in to the back of my Achilles tendon! The left shoe is scraping the top and side of my big toe so bad I had to put a few bandaids on them, and it's not helping!!!!! I'm considering going without shoes for the remainder of my 13 hour shift! Oh and the tong on both shoes are sawing through my shin with every movement of my foot. I'd rather wear bear traps on my feet at least that would be more comfortable! Sitting down with them on feels like someone is putting acid on your feet!     • Better than Thoroughgood-Great sole life, don't come unglued due to water exposure

If you wear military style shoes daily as I do, you will find Thoroughgood probably the most comfortable, but also the most expensive. And while the price shot up $40 over the past few years, the shoe quality has fallen dramatically. GOD forbid you walk through a puddle that gets above the sole - because 2 weeks later, your shoes will become un-glued. This is the 3rd pair of Rothco and the soles HOLD UP until I have to throw them away. Thorouhgood soles are soft and in 6 months if you walk a lot as I do, you'll have to throw the shoes away even if they still look nice, because the soles are so worn. That means they also easily leave black marks on your floors if you drag your feet at all. Rothco isn't the most comfortable shoe, but shoes have to be a little tougher to stand up to daily wear. I HIGHLY recommend these if you have to wear dress shoes daily. ... show more

I have never had dress shoes be SO uncomfortable. I don't know that going down to a size 14 would help. So I'm pretty used to new shoes needing breaking in, get that leather soft. These shoes are relentless in pain and don't let up even a month after purchase. I bought some heavy duty sole inserts from Dr Schol's, no improvement. My toes are just more pinched and squished. There's something not right with the cut of the toe section, it feels like knives are stabbing them. The top of my toes are red after each workday. Wearing double socks sort of helps, but that's a ridiculous solution. I am literally probably going to throw these out because nobody would want to wear these. ... show more

My daugher was getting married this past July and I had decided to wear my fire dept uniform to the wedding. I have been retired for quite a number of years now and my old dress shoes were of no condition to wear with the uniform at the wedding. Found these on amazon and decided to try them. They came in good condition and were comfortable. Wore them for the wedding and reception and they never hurt my feet. Looked real good with the uniform also. I knew I would not wear them for anything aside from her wedding, so the price was pretty decent for shoes that I knew I would not be wearing again in the future. I cannot say how durable they would be and will never find out how durable they are, but for what I needed them for, the price I paid, I am very happy with these dress shoes! ... show more

I often March parades where patent leather shoes are part of the uniform. I decided these were a good deal, and why not. I was quickly reminded that sometimes the extra money is worth the cost. Never had problems marching parades with Bates, these ate my heels like they had been starved for a month. Save yourself the heel-ache, look somewhere else. In all my 6 years of marching, (sometimes miles at a time) this was a first. Also shoes had noticible crease after only a week of use ... show more

    • Most uncomfortable shoe!

I'm in law enforcement and bought these for when i wear a Class A uniform. This is the most uncomfortable shoe I've ever purchased. I originally ordered a 15R which is what I wear. It was so tight on my foot. The pain was so bad I could barely walk. Sent those back for a 15W. I received 14W in a 15W box. Let's try this again. Sent those back and got the 15Ws I ordered. Wore them once and still just as tight! I figured they just needed a little breaking in. Nope! Came home with blisters. And they were worn at an event I was mostly sitting at. Needless to say I will be sending this pair back as well. No more Rothco for me! ... show more

Brand New, out of the box. Packaging was terrible and the item was scuffed. This is for military use where attention to detail is everything. Although the scuff is on the side, no one will see it but i know it is there. I would not buy these again. I steered away from the Bates lites since the soles disintegrate but i would rather pay the yearly 100 than to wear these bricks. Bad move Rothco. You lost me as a customer...i would not buy or recommend. I read other reviews and should have picked up all the clues . Lessons learned. ... show more

I wore these shoes 3 time 10 hrs max, and they look like crap. Cracked, finish on the upper looks like I've had these shoes for a long time with many miles on them. Will return to Bates brand. Serves me right for being a cheapskate.
