Description

Durable Product One of Rösle's superb kitchen tools, this 7-1/2-inch peeler has a 1-1/2-inch-wide blade for easily peeling long vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers, and zucchini. On its side is a point sharpened on both ends to remove potato eyes and other blemishes. Like all Rösle tools, utensils, and Open Kitchen storage components, this peeler is made of 18/10 stainless steel for rustproof beauty and long-lasting durability. The round handle has a satin finish to conceal finger marks. The handle is sealed against water and has a hanging ring so it can be conveniently stored on a hook in the Open Kitchen system of Rösle basic rails and Gridwalls or hung on any hook or peg. The peeler is sturdy, balanced, and exceptionally comfortable in the hand. All Rösle products are dishwasher-safe, and carry a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Brand Story By Rosle See more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed - cancelling other Rosle items in my shopping cart
Style: Crosswise Swivel Peeler
My not so old Rosle equipment has a red circle around Rosle (see picture) has a smooth polished transition (no sharpness felt) from the larger circumference handle to smaller circumference handle (a rosle trademark). This new device is all in black lettering and is sharp in its transition - received no polishing whatsoever, could possibly cut you. Looks like the manufacturing specifications has gone overboard with cost or production cutbacks, not just in labor (China now) but in fit and finish as well. They could have specified red circle and buff/polish out the sharpness of the handle transitions but obviously decided to save the pennies (which do add up) and just sell the vision of what the old rosle equipment used to be at the same price levels. Unfortunately for this ex-rosle customer, I'm forced to look elsewhere for quality now. Perhaps a brand still made in Germany? Other than that - the cut depth on an orange is perfect for garnishments and the blades are replaceable, its simply hard to stomach they didn't specify the level of finish needed, and that people are accustomed to, at this price level on what used to be an iconic brand. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool but has one important limitation peeling large foods.
Style: Extra Fine Swivel Peeler
This Rosle vegetable peeler with swivel blade is an excellent tool and I would recommend it. It’s extremely sharp so it slices through hard foods with ease. BUT, it has one big limitation which is that the position of the blade sets it back from the edge of the handle which can make it hard to pare large foods like eggplant or turnips and rutabagas or even large potatoes. I include a photo of the Rosle and Good Grips parers side by side to compare blade position. You can see that there is a “shoulder” on the Rosle that stands above the blade, which is centered in the handle. That shoulder is what makes it hard to peel a food with a large circumference. The Good Grips blade is aligned close to the edge of the handle, not the center, so it easily handles large girth foods. We can always use two parers in our busy home kitchen but I am dismayed that such a great parer has this limitation which could be eliminated with a simple design change. It’s our “go to” parer for carrots and cucumbers and small apples and potatoes but we need to have another to handle the larger foods. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Very well made & super sharp.
Style: Crosswise Swivel Peeler
I bought the 1st peeler 10 or so years ago. & it is still sharp. Hubby prefers using the peeler instead of using his knife so I brought a 2nd.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Love the 18/10 stainless steel
Style: Standard Peeler
Great quality! I like that it is built with quality 18/10 stainless steel. The color is beautiful. I like Rose kitchen equipment. It is expensive, but quality.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars expensive but worth it
Style: Right-Handed Swivel Peeler
About a year ago I bought a similar looking Kuhn-Rikon peeler and was disappointed in it (I note that amazon no longer sells that K-R product). So I was apprehensive about the Rosle peeler even though others had given it high marks. But not to worry; this peeler is a real tool and designed quite differently than any other I've seen. First off, as others have noted, the blade is replaceable (current cost $6 including 2 new screws). Secondly, the blade itself swings in a much shorter arc than other swivel types which prevents the blade from hanging up on the peeler frame which was the main problem with the Kuhn-Rikon. The blade is very sharp and cleanly peels raw tomatoes with ease (my acid test). As others have noted you have to make a decision re: the LH/RH choice and will necessitate most cooks making some adjustment in their technique. For example most people peel an apple towards you while peeling a carrot away, it's a fat/round vs. long/skinny thing. But this peeler is so smooth that the adjustment is easy and it's beautifully designed and manufactured.... looks more like a surgical instrument than a kitchen gadget. The only other thing for those that are interested is it's made in China. The euro manufacturers are not immune from the lure of cheap labor and have quietly (compared to US standards) moved much of their manufacturing offshore to Asia. The difference is they do their best to hide it with code words touting "German design" or "Swiss engineered and designed". Even the venerable French firm Le Creuset has much of their production (not the enameled cast iron) manufactured in China. The major difference seems to be that these euro firms often continue parallel manufacturing in their home markets, so an identical product might be purchased in Munich or Lyon and come from an EU plant while the rest of the world might get the Chinese version. Really not an issue unless one feels sending US dollars to one foreign country is OK while sending it to another is not. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, I have figured out how to choose a peeler based on handedness (from Rösle)
Style: Left-Handed Swivel Peeler
I previously bought the right-handed swivel tool. In one description, it indicated that it was for both left and right-handed people. I'm a left-handed person trying to deal with the difficulty of so many tools (parers, scissors, etc.) that are optimized for right-handed people. But my wife would want a right-handed tool, and I would continue to accommodate. We go the right-handed tool, I thought it worked beautifully and she said it didn't. So here's the tip: do you peel pulling toward you (like most people who pare with a knife), or do you push it away. I push away. My wife pushes away. The right-handed peeler is based on pulling toward you. So, the choice depends on pulling or pushing. Bottom line: For pushers, the handedness is backward. So the right-handed peeler works best for me (left-handed and a pusher). The left-handed peeler works best for my wife (who is right-handed and pushes). It so totally seems expensive overkill. But, if you want either spouse to actively enjoy peeling, one should accommodate it. This tool will last decades. I am willing to bequeath my tools to my kids and they will love them... for many more years. If you have only need for one handedness, or spouses peel in opposite direction, weigh the odds of cost vs. opportunity. PS: I have noticed a similar analysis from other reviewers. I apologize for any redundancies. But for those who may be unhappy, they should exchange the handedness of the peeler. Then see if they can achieve Nirvana from it. ... show more
