  • Just got this today
Size: 48-Inch
This was just delivered today, and it's 96 degrees with a 120 heat factor, so I haven't taken it for a test drive yet. First impression is that it'd a good design, made of heavy duty materials, and well-built. I have rocky soil and plenty of tree roots to cut through AND I have a new pawpaw tree coming from a nursery next week. I'll update my review after that's planted. Update: I haven't received the tree yet but I did dig up this hyacinth to move it. It was in rocky soil with plenty of sassafras roots around it. I dug about a 16in circle around it to full depth and pried it out of the ground with the Root Assassin. It worked great. I'm really pleased with the tool. ... show more

  • Narrow blade head gets into small places
Size: 32-Inch
This product fits my hands and is easy to use. I was able to clean out weeds in garden in short length of time and even get into narrow crevices. I highly recommend this tool for your garden collection.

  • Such a time saver!
Size: 48-Inch
Dug up three old, dead or dying shrubs with this shovel! One of them took a grand total of 8 seconds with only 2 "digs." It would have taken me weeks to transform these garden beds with any other shovel.

  • Narrow sharp nose of shovel does the job well!
Size: 32-Inch
I was using this to dig up ostrich ferns out of my perennials. Ostrich ferns are invasive. I could dig up the fern roots without dislodging the perennials they were invading, since the tip is narrow. I have the shovel with the shorter handle. I also used it to get rid of thistles and their deep tap roots quickly, and to dig holes for planting annual flowers, such as impatiens, so that I wasn’t on my hands and knees. It’s a back saver and time saver too! My next job is to dig up my crowded bearded Iris beds and transplant those. ... show more

  • Works great but bent a tad
Size: 58-Inch
My husband loves this shovel! Took fifteen minutes to dig a hole and plant our tree versus and hour with our last shovel which in the end broke. Only downfall is that in his second use of the shovel, it bent slightly on the end. Aside from that, truly a great buy.

  • Bent the first time we used it
Size: 48-Inch
It will go through small and medium size roots just fine, but bigger roots not so much. We're taking out - or trying, anyway - an old evergreen hedge that's been in the ground for probably 40 years. We cut the bush down to the stump and then started digging. We watched videos of how to use this shovel. Straight down first, then at an angle to try to get under the stump to loosen the roots. We had no problem going straight down, but when we came in at an angle, the shovel bent fairly significantly. Very disappointed, because it's supposed to be sturdier than that, I would have thought, for the price of it. So, that's $50 down the drain. Not sure if we can exchange it or not. But I'd say this is best for smaller shrubs and plants, not bigger shrubs with well-established root systems. We got better results using a regular shovel and a Sawzall. ... show more
