Description

The name Rolex is recognized around the world. It has become an icon of beauty, quality, accuracy, style, and taste. While there are other fine manufacturers of timepieces, none has reached this pinnacle of public respect and acclaim. The watches produced by Rolex over the last 100 years are celebrated in this lavishly illustrated classic, now in a revised and expanded third edition. Over 30 newly discovered wristwatches are included in this volume, along with new information and a revised value guide. In addition there are detailed looks at some of Rolex's legendary movements. Authors Dowling and Hess, both acknowledged Rolex authorities, have captured the watches' beauty in color photography and present the most thorough and extensive history written of the company. The watches and the extensive information this book offeres to collectors make it a truly useful volume, one that will be cherished by watch lovers around the world. Read more

  • the author Jeffrey Hess is amazing
the best book if you are going to deal in vintage ROlex

  • Pretty good reference for older models
Format: Hardcover
I needed to verify a Rolex 6084 and found a picture of a similar model, the 6085. This book gave me the confidence to accurately identify a model from the 1950's. For watches before the 70's, I would look towards this book. Otherwise, read the "Rolex Report" for a good value to learn about newer models. ... show more

  • A great book for serious collectors of vintage Rolex watches
As a longstanding member of the NAWCC (National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors [www.nawcc.org]) it is my opinion that this book is a requirement for any serious collector of Rolex vintage watches. Those who complain about this publication have a serious misunderstanding of the purpose of the book. As a collector of Prince watches, Bubbleback, Sub's and early Daytona's watches and others, I can honestly say this book has assisted me tremendously when purchasing additional watches. ... show more

  • The old Rolex book
Book is fine if your interested in 30+ year old watches. No reference to newer watches.

  • Great Watch, Great Book
Format: Hardcover
For those who are interested in watches, this is a great historical guide to the brand best-known in the world. As Dowling explains, this is a unique brand with a unique history and probably a unique future. I particularly enjoyed the beautiful photography--like so many other subjects in print, poor photography ruins the experience. Buy, and enjoy! ... show more

  • A little light on detail, but nice coffee table book
I was hoping for more detailed information. I am starting out as a rolex collector and hoped this book would be of more help in teaching me the basics of rolex watch identification. Having corresponded with the author and visited his website, it is apparent that he is a big fan of the older watches, and this book appears to lean toward them. Still, an interesting read - but a little expensive not to provide more detailed information geared toward the collector. ... show more

  • a little less than perfect
A truly magnificent book. Anyone who collects books will know the feeling when I say that there are only a few books which stand out as genuinely satisfying purchases, and such a propitious confluence of need, expectation and gratification, when it occurs, is rare indeed. Perfection however does not exist, so I do wish that it had more on 'newer' Rolexes, and if ever Messrs Dowling and Hess ever decided to correct this very minor blemish for a revised second edition, they may put my name down for a copy. Until then, this is THE Rolex book to have. ... show more
