My mother used to buy figs similar to these at the grocery store. They were terribly expensive and didn't last long with a family of five. My dad used to eat them for breakfast with toast and LOVED them. For some reason, grocery stores stopped carrying them, probably because they weren't big sellers. When I saw these I pondered if they would taste the same since you have many different companies on Amazon selling them but all of them just a little bit different. Most are in heavy syrup, which isn't what I was looking for. I didn't find a smaller container with the light syrup so I bought these. They came in a very large can, which it states on the side that you should take them out and repackage them, which I did and put them in the refrigerator. I used glass jars. My husband and I waited until the next day to try them and they were exactly the same as what I had grown up with. BOOM!! I'm thankful I bought them, and will buy them again. ... show more

These figs are excellent, firm and sweet. I found the figs sold on Amazon in the smaller cans in a 6 pack rather mushy, tho no doubt it is a matter of taste and some may prefer a soft fig. Since I only eat a few at a time, I transfer the big can's contents into two smaller containers and refrigerate them. One thing tho, these cans are enormous and very heavy. Don't order them with anything else in the same order or they'll crush the other items - even books may be damaged. And the cartons are really not strong enough -they usually arrive in pretty bad shape tho the cans themselves have never been damaged. But great figs tho and worth it. ... show more

    • One can badly damaged and had to be thrown out
I ordered three large cans....one was so badly damaged that the label was missing and looked like it had been run over by a truck. The figs, inside the other cans, were not of the quality of the ones that I enjoyed on several cruises on Celebrity Cruise lines. Some had spots and some were soft and mushy. My wife and I just got off the Celebrity Reflection on April 12th. While on board, I asked the head chief to find out what brand of Kadota figs they were using, because they were outstanding. He gave me a label from a can....they were from Port Royal Sales, Ltd. in Woodbury, NY. I have contacted Port Royal and intend to buy from them in the future. ... show more

Good, but I wish this was available in a smaller quantity. Six pounds of canned figs is a lot. I put some in the freezer.

I was looking for green figs with very light syrup like I had last trip to Bahamas. These AREN’T them. Figs are larger, brown with light brown sauce. Much tougher than what I remember. Use a knife and fork to eat. Sweet taste, not especially fig.

    • Mushy, badly discolored but tasted ok
I love figs with breakfast, or as a dessert. These figs, however, must have been in the can a long, long time. They taste ok, but they fall apart when being removed from the can. Instead of being firm and greenish, they were brown and so fragile that they self destructed as they were spooned from the can. I bought two cans, and I am sending the unopened one back. ... show more
