  • Versatile, fun, great sounding. Happy we got it!
My son has an Alto and a Tenor Sax and loves playing this electronic instrument as well. He’s learning about other instruments, is inspired to play more, to research music more, and to create more on his own. Very happy we got this for him. It is lighter than we expected, sounds better, and he can turn the volume lower so he can play when his dad goes to bed early. ... show more

  • Great instrument and a lot of fun
Excellent instrument with a tremendous amount of versatility. Only issue is it would be great if it came with more information/explanation on the different sounds. Learned mostly by trial and error and research.

  • Looks a little cheap but the tech is amazing!
UPDATE: 4/17/2022 So, in some ways I want to rate this HIGHER than before, but in other ways I want to rate it lower. FIRST, this is an absolutely amazing piece of equipment. If I had one of these when I was young, I would have been a much better player. It makes practicing fun and easy. It is simply astonishing - AND so EASY to just pick up and play. It sounds amazing and makes you feel like a much better player than you are, all while MAKING you a better player! So what is the downside??? Two things... They came out with the AE-20 in Jan of 2022 - just after Christmas and what a bummer, cause that is what I would have gotten - but such is life. MORE IMPORTANTLY, the instrument is buggy. SOMETIMES the lower octave key will do what it is supposed to do, and sometimes it does something totally different. I have done a factory reset and everything I can think of - it just works sometimes and doesn't other times. Everything I have read says that service from Roland is sketchy, but I am going to try. I'd love to pay them a price difference and upgrade to the AE-20. ONE LAST THING, I don't know how the AE-20 is, but the AE-10 has a pretty awful menu system. Think OLD SCHOOL with a digital calculator screen and scrolling through a ton of choices. Better yet, imagine how a lot of computer monitors work - or don't work very well - having you dig through menu after menu to find what you want or need. It is 2022 and time for a good menu / screen for a $1,000 device. ALL THAT SAID, it is still amazing and you should still get one. -----------------------ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW------------------------------------------------------------------- I got this for my daughter who plays sax and wants to learn clarinet. She wasn't sure what to think at first, but we are being WOWED again and again with this super neat piece of technology. It is lightweight and at first glance it looks a little like a toy, but it is NOT. It is FAIRLY easy to understand how to program and operate, and just picking it up and playing sax on it is SIMPLE. I wish it came with more reeds - the default is HARD but it works pretty well. Not sure how to get more. The sound quality is astonishing and it sounds and feels like a sax. If you know how to play Alto Saxophone then you know how to play over a hundred instruments the moment you pick up the Roland AE-10G Aerophone Digital Wind Instrument. You play to the fingerings of an Eb Alto Sax and whatever instrument you choose is what you get. I found the brass section to be a little off - at least in the built in speaker. But most of the woodwinds are spot on and it is just WOW WOW WOW!!! We are thinking of upgrading to the next model, this is so good and amazing. The ONLY negatives, it seems to eat batteries (6 x AA) but you can plug it in to the wall via a wall-wart - included. The speaker is a bit anemic and weak sounding, but you can easily plug it into an amp. We've had a problem with it cutting off while playing. We THINK it was just a battery issue, but we are hoping we didn't get a glitchy electronic connection somewhere. OVERALL, get one of these if you have any serious interest in playing a woodwind instrument. It sounds so real, plays so realistically and it WOW but ALSO really USEFUL. Highly recommend this. I purchased this at full price as a Christmas gift for my daughter and I am not biased in ANY way. It is just plain awesome! I hope you found my review helpful. Thank you! ... show more

  • and get around on it fairly easily. It is sooooooo much easier and more intuitive ...
If you are looking for a wind synth and are already a sax player, this is the one to buy! After playing for just a few hours I could play tunes, scales, and get around on it fairly easily. It is sooooooo much easier and more intuitive than the AKAI EWI.

  • but I felt bad because to try it out you have to of ...
It did not work out for me, I returned it. They gave me my money back, but I felt bad because to try it out you have to of course soil the mouthpiece. On the videos you can watch it sound good, but I think this is under ideal circumstances. For me it sounded like a 1980's toy keyboard. It also feels like a toy. Plastic, very light, and does not exude "professional". But the biggest complaint is that the octave key is set in such a way that there is a one octave and a two octave jump, and the button for two octaves is right next to (I mean really close) to the regular octave key. I could not avoid getting a two octave jump when I wanted one octave. And I studied the manual to see it this could be changed, but I could not find any menu to fix this issue. BTW, embouchure techniques are not how you control octaves, growls, etc. It is controlled by switches. This could be a nice instrument for somebody open minded that is not looking for the feel of a real sax. But for me it did not work out. I feel bad that the vendor has to re-sell it as some kind of refurbish, but what can I do? ... show more

  • Great sounds at external speaker end, bad sound at earphones side
This instrument has great sounds from external speakers, but very bad sound from earphones. I guess this unit has defective earphone audio output issues.
