  • YMMV, my experience overwhelmingly positive so far!
Color: No Logo 3K Matte Size: 420mm
Like most who are reading this, I did countless hours of investigation and research as I studied options for an aero/ergo carbon handlebar. Also like most of those reading, I don't have hundreds of dollars to plop down on a name-brand setup that would cost 2/3 of what my secondhand (but barely ridden) Specialized Tarmac SL4. I wanted carbon/aero/ergo for all the reasons: 1) It looks amazing 2) Marginal aero gains 3) Comfort/Compliance 4) Weight savings. After looking through all the reviews, Reddits, YouTube videos, etc, I settled here, primarily because I knew I could return it if I unboxed and decided it wasn't "worth the risk". Well folks, I couldn't be happier with my purchase! This thing is substantially lighter than the aluminum round handlebar setup I was running, is well made, and the value is terrific! I've been riding on it daily for about a week now, and I can say that without question riding on the "tops" is incredibly comfortable, and the "drops" is as well. I'm an average joe cyclist so I'm not sprinting in the drops a ton, but when I do you can feel the tiniest bit of flex which isn't disconcerting and allows you to put the power down through the pedals. I also feel like the carbon soaks up more of the road chatter (bumps), making it noticeably more comfortable than a standard round aluminum setup. Installation was fairly easy, as the holes for the brake and shifter cables are big enough to fish your outers through without much frustration. I found it easiest to fish them from shifter to the stem, and this never took more than a quick minute or so per cable. The edges of the cable routing holes are a bit rough, so if you're particular about your outers looking pristine you might want to cover the edges of the holes in some tape. Mine got the slightest bit scratched, but it's not noticeable unless you're actually looking for it. All in all, I'd but this again in a heartbeat. I can't vouch for quality control on every single handlebar they produce, but it certainly *seems* as though I got a good one. I love the look of the matte/satin 3K carbon fiber layup as well, which goes extremely well with my black/grey Tarmac SL4 and half-wrapped with "carbon look" bar tape. Cleaned up the cockpit nicely, and gives the SL4 the look of a much newer bike. ... show more

  • Very comfortable ride on the hoods, nice looking too
Color: Gray 3K Matte Size: 420mm
I am no carbon fiber expert. This bar is carbon fiber. I have no idea if the T8000 grade is legit or not. They are very light. They are absolutely lighter than my aluminum Specialized bars that came on my Roubaix SL4. I had to add a bar extender Kbrotech Bike Handlebar Extender Double Handlebar Extension Carbon Fiber Mount Holder with Aluminum Alloy Braket Space Saver (DBlack) , in order to fit my Cygolight Cygolite Expilion 720 USB Light head light, and my Morpheus M4 phone mount Morpheus Labs M4s iPhone 8 / iPhone 7 (Not Plus) Bike Kit, Bike Mount & iPhone 8 / iPhone 7 Case, Cell Phone Holder for Apple iPhone 7 / iPhone 8, Safe Bicycle Phone Mount, Bicycle Holder [Orange ]. I use my phone as my GPS and ride computer. it also keeps all my stats and crosses them to my other health apps, so having my phone along is important. I used to ride with my phone in my pocket until one unfortunate incident that nearly cost me the price of a new phone, and did cost me a 10 mile back track. Now I mount my phone where I can see it, so I know I have it. (Do not watch or otherwise mess with your phone while barreling down the road or sidewalk on your bike...OK, Safety first) Even with the bar extender, this aero bar's weight is comparable to the outgoing aluminum bar. If you are very weight conscious, skip the bar extender, and you probably do not mount all the gear anyway. I figure if I skip a few carbs, I can drop more grams than my handle bar anyway. I did not go carbon fiber for a weight savings alone. These bars feel strong. I am 6 feet, and 223 lbs. I ride 10 to 20 mile rides, depending on time constraints. I do intermittent sprints, where I get down on the drops and really get to it. I feel a bit of flex, but nothing approaching cracking or physical damage to the bar. I will keep track, and update if any issues arise. I commute on my bike in addition to training rides. So I log 300 plus miles per month. I have 350 miles on these bars at the time of this writing. I have appreciated the flex in these bars on some of the less enjoyable terrain I encounter. For the most part I get a nice smooth highway. But I do hit a few rough patches, that feel like they could throw my water bottle out of its carrier. The bars take a lot of that shock, assuming I am riding the hoods, or the drops. If I am riding the tops, I tend to be near the center, and the carbon does not offer much absorption there. The leverage is too short. The drops offer the most flex. The sizing of these bars is pretty good for my setup, and my body. But every cyclist has a different situation. I am still dialing my fit in, but I have found a few, very comfortable positions and settings. I needed new bars, primarily because of an incident that involved damage to my old bars. I was looking for a fun set of bars to try out, at a budget friendly price. I had just purchased the Roubiax, so I had not prepared to change parts on a $2500 bike, at this juncture (my other bike is a hybrid commuter with flat bars, so that was not an option either). The old bars being untenable, I had no choice I needed new, cheap bars. These RXL's fit the need I have. There may be nicer (albeit more expensive) bars out there. But I can not see changing bars anytime soon, unless I really start riding the drops. This brings me to the only small fault I have found in these bars. They extend a bit too much for my current set up. So I have them tilted up a little, and the hoods are a little further back. This setup puts the drops in a little bit of a weird position. They still work for me. I only get in the drops, if I am sprinting, and I only sprint a mile at most, at any given time. Then I get back on the hoods or tops, and cool back down. Now this setup may be unconventional, but it does make riding the hoods and tops very comfortable. I am very comfortable riding the hoods at speeds up to 23 mph for sustained distances. So 90% of the time these work great for me. I do comme from riding 2000 miles on a Trek FX7.4 hybrid, so I am used to riding up, and back more. Any issue I have is likely due to sizing, not design. So know what size you really need, and you may not have the same issues. Side note, I reused my Specialized gel strips for comfort, and I bought some matchy matchy blue bar tape Planet Bike Comfort GEL Road Bike Handlebar Tape with Reflective Bar Plugs, Blue , that looks great and provides some extra cushion. This tape is not long enough to fully wrap the drops on these bars. You would need an extra half a kit to get the drops wrapped. Again, I don't ride the drops a lot. The bars offer a lot of absorption of vibration in the drops. So I opted not to wrap my drops, and thus far have not regretted it. Now perhaps on a half century ride or much longer sprints, that opinion would change. If it does, I'll just order another Planet Bike kit. There are longer bar wrap kits that would likely be sufficient, like this one EXTRA LONG Gel Bicycle Handlebar Bar Tape Wrap for Road Bikes and Cycling - Domain Cycling (Blue) . The blue was the wrong shade for me, so I went with the other tape. ... show more

  • Nice looking handlebar
Color: Black UD Glossy Size: 400mm
The only thing I didn't like was the size of the holes for the cable housing. I did use a rat tail file to open up a little bit. Housing will not be rubbing against the sides now. Also use a 2-1/2" pieces of heat shrink tubing on the cable housing where it comes through
