  • Worked beyond my imagination
Color: Royal Blue Size: 8 oz
Got this to try and revive a pair of shoes that had become so faded and gross that I didn’t want to wear them anymore And oh my goodness, they turned out so much better than expected. The soles of the shoes also turned a little blue but that’s my fault because of bad prep, but hey for someone who had never dyed anything before I think they turned out pretty good. Little bit of magic erasers and acetone and the soles looked a lot better in the end. Another bonus is there was no undesirable smell during or after Followed their directions online, super easy process. Didn’t accidentally stain anything outside of the shoe. And I didn’t even use the whole bottle so I can do something else later which is awesome! It’s been about 2 months and the dye hasn’t shown any signs of fading, and these shoes see almost daily wear. 10/10 would buy again ... show more

  • Rit Dye gave me the color I really wanted and couldn't find anywhere else.
Color: Aquamarine Size: 8 Fl Oz
I wanted a sweatshirt in a light turquoise and none in that color were available anywhere. I decided to take a try at fabric dying. It turned out to be pretty easy. A bit messy but the end result was worth it. The bottle of Rit, when mixed with water, made enough that I also did a couple of white towels and washcloths. Preparing by having the area where you'll be working is really important. This is permanent color so splatter and spills are to be avoided.. Also, have something you can use for stirring the garment into the dye that won't absorb color. The longer it sits in the dye the deeper the color, but will dry lighter than it looks wet. Overall this was a fun project and I will do it again. I found out you can mix colors too but that will have to wait for another time. ... show more

  • Works wonderfully

  • I had to try twice
Color: Teal Size: 8 Fl Oz
This color was a little difficult for me. With the first bottle I ordered, i dyed them in a large stainless silver pot on my stove and the shirts seemed splotchy and looked dirty and just all around ugly, so I washed the shirts, bought and used color remover, and washed them again before dying them in the washing machine. I had to end up buying 2 or 3 bottles plus the color remover and I still dont know what went wrong with the first bottle (all my materials were cleaned before use) and this was the only color I had a real issue with. The second time around it came out great, though. I used this color for my dad and sister (dad is in the back and sister is a minor) for our family reunion shirts and the color was so vibrant. I was worried it would be dull next to my married sister and her husband's chosen color of aqua, but it came out beautifully and my family loved all their colors ... show more

  • I Lucked Out! Dress Looks Great!
Color: Hyacinth Jacinthe Size: 8-Ounce
I am attending a wedding this Fall, and was in need of a new dress. I found this great lacey Vince Camuto dress at Nordstrom Rack for a great price - except it only came in Ivory! I bought RIT Dye (the 'normal' version, not the one for 'synthetic' fabrics) in Hyacinth. This Ivory dress is: 40% nylon, 33% cotton, 27% rayon. The lace outer portion is cotton, and the lining is Nude & made with the synthetic materials. My plan was to snip out the lining so that it did not get dyed, but it is one whole piece that is sewn all over, so it would have been nearly impossible to remove it and reattach it, given that the outer lacey portion is so delicate. So I looked at RIT's instructions and mostly disregarded them. Instead of putting this dress into a pot of boiling water on the stove, I threw it into my washing machine. Instead of adding dish soap, I didn't. I did add salt, but it was Epsom salt. I used the 'hot' wash cycle and poured (about) half of the bottle of RIT into the washer. Once the washer was filled with water, I tossed the whole dress in. I stopped the wash cycle, set a timer for 10 minutes, then started the cycle again so the dress could be swished & swirled around. I stopped the cycle again, this time for about 20 minutes. Then I restarted it, and let it finish. I then washed this 'dry clean only' dress on 'gentle' with Cold water, and hung it to dry. The result is perfect: RIT dyed the outside of the dress, but not the lining. The color is just as I was hoping it would be, too! There is some detailing along the collar that didn't 'take' the dye, but that just makes it look a bit fancier. Photos were taken in my basement with no adjustments/filters. ... show more

  • Rich and Vivid Colors - Easy To DIY!
Color: Tangerine Size: 8 Fl Oz
Rit dyes have come a long way since the old days. The liquid dyes are easy to use and the colors are rich and juicy! I decided to customize some inexpensive white kitchen linens (potholders, towels) to go with my fruit-colored kitchen and table. I'm pleased with how they turned out and how cheery and vivid the colors are. ... show more
