Description

Learn how to thrive in—or escape from—a toxic work environment. Toxic organizations are rife with conflict, fear, and anger. The environment causes people to have physiological responses as if they’re in a fight-or-flight situation. Healthy people become ill. Colds, flu and stress-related illnesses such as heart attacks are more common. By contrast, in resonant organizations, people take fewer sick days and turnover is low. People smile, make jokes, talk openly and help one another." - Annie McKee (author, consultant) Many employees experience the reality of bullying bosses, poisonous people, and soul-crushing cultures on a daily basis. Rising Above a Toxic Workplace tells authentic stories from today's workers who share how they cope, change, or quit. Candidly they open up about what they learned, what they wish they had done, and how to gain resilience. Insightfully illustrating from these accounts, authors Gary Chapman, Paul White, and Harold Myra blend their combined experiences in ministry and business to deliver hope and practical guidance to those who find themselves in an unhealthy work environment. Includes a Survival Guide and Toolkit full of strategies and realistic insights Read more

  • Must read for any one working at any level...happy or frustrated with their job!
Don’t wait till you find yourself in a toxic workplace. This book is a must read for any worker and especially leaders. Based on research, authors share real examples in a personal tone that helps readers related to the topic and situations. Yet, the discussion and strategies or walk always are broad enough where you don’t have to be in that exact situation to benefit. I learned a lot. As an educator, I will be able to use what insight I gain with students, parents, peers, and those that lead me. The biggest take away was that we have a new gen of leaders with didn’t life experiences and strategies for managing...under pressure asure for accountability and performance....and how they lead or don’t lead will impact future workplaces. However, it won’t be about resolving all these conflicts, we need to look at how conflicts can be managed in workplaces...managed in ways that help people grown and companies or organisations be more positive places to work. Shares traits and examples of leaders and situations to watch out for as well as some fabulous strategies to support. Will be giving as gifts to all my friends! ... show more

  • Great personal experiences shared inside!
We experience negative and toxic things at work and are astounded that they happen. Not only that, we are even MORE astounded that they aren't just isolated incidents and they continue to happen! The ultimate offense is when it's the leaders who are purveying these types of behaviors and practices! But what can be done about it? The authors and researchers who came together to write this book have not only identified clear problems that create a toxic workplace, but they have strategically provided practical resources that can be used to survive and thrive in these types of workplaces. Being brave enough to shine a light on the problems often times puts a target on your back because the very things that are causing the toxicity are the things that got people in positions of power in the first place. If you're struggling in a toxic workplace and don't know what to do and feel like you're alone, read this book and learn about the strategies discussed by the authors and the people they've interviewed. Not only will you come away with a toolbox of practical resources, but the feeling that you aren't alone in your fight. ... show more

  • Book saved my life
I worked at a real crap department with a horrible boss and my co-worker. Very toxic workplace for sure. He was a 100% bosshole... Great book on how to deal with bad managers and co-workers. Best advice I can give is move out quickly. It does not get better..

  • Full of personal experience
If you have this book to someone who's never had a job, it might help them. It describes the sort of encounters you may have in the workforce. Otherwise, it reads more like a series of personal accounts. There's little advice beyond to quit. Just to take account of your health and judge how toxic your boss is based off of a checklist. ... show more

This a great resource to those who have been affected by a toxic workplace. The book describes events, behaviors but also equips you with tools.

  • Survival Tactics
Having recently had my "This Is The Perfect Job" puppy brutally dismembered right before my horrified eyes, I was desperate to place my experience into some kind of context. I am a survivor of domestic abuse and the feelings I experienced were so startlingly familiar to me that I couldn't believe they were appropriate or in response to something that was really happening! Turns out my experience is overwhelmingly common and can be mitigated and managed by a variety of attitudes and actions that are well within my control. Yay! ... show more
