Description

In early 1992, a panel of Scotch whisky experts convened at Riedel's headquarters in Austria to test a range of nineteen different glass shapes. One the basis of this first selection, Georg Riedel undertook further research with the help of master distillers in Scotland. This research resulted in a glass that is an elongated thistle shape on a truncated stem. The design incorporates a small, slightly outturned lip which directs the spirit onto the tip of the tongue, where sweetness is perceived, and serves to emphasize the elegant creaminess of top quality single malt whiskey.

  • Nice size glass
Style: Gourmet
I guess these aren’t really wine glasses but that’s what I use them for because they’re a cross between a stemless and a regular wine glass. I have a tendency to knock regular wine glasses over on the counter. These have a little bit of a stem so I like them better than stemless. Not the sturdiest tho - gotta be gentle washing and handling them. My husband has broken several unfortunately but they’re still my favorite every day wine glass. ... show more

  • Perfect martini glasses, versus current trend of martini goblets
Style: Martini
Anyone remember when a martini was a martini? Or when a martini glass wasn’t a fish bowl? This perfect set will take you back to those golden days of the perfect, real, well chilled, straight up martini. The crystal is indeed good crystal, so my only warning is to be careful as these can chip because they are fine. But I’ve bought two sets already, highly recommended as the right size to keep a drink both elegant and well chilled. And right sized to enjoy more than one should the moment meet that joy. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • THE Martini Glass
Style: Martini
If you like a cocktail—this is the glass for one. Sliver lipped (no typical glass bulge around the rim) and the perfect size. My favorite Martini glass—and I've had more than a few.

  • Exquisite Martini Glass
Style: Martini
This is a beautiful glass. It’s elegant and graceful, but not too fragile. The size is perfect for a classic martini. It can be difficult to find a V-shaped martini glass that isn’t huge.

  • Cognac glass is for single malts, too
Style: Cognac
I have long used this cognac glass for cognac, but even more often for single malt Scotch and similarly fine Irish whiskey. This glass' bowl has basically the same shape as, and about the same volume as, the acclaimed Glencairn whiskey glass. And, of course, Riedel's fine non-leaded crystal. … I find the stem to be a major advantage over the squat Riedel whiskey glass. It is not a long stem, and its fits very comfotably in the hand. … Durability has never been a problem. I follow perhaps the most important rule: Do not twist or otherwise put pressure on the bowl while holding the stem fixed. Otherwise, it is treated like all my other glasses and goes into the dishwasher. ... show more

  • Great glasses for whiskey. Lead free!
Style: Cognac
These are ideal for whiskey. Beautiful and functional. About the same size/shape as a Glencairn glass, but better quality and I prefer the stem. (Riedel also makes an Akvavit glass, which is even closer to the Glencairn in shape, but it's hard come by). Unfortunately, they don't make anything like this glass in the hand-made Sommelier line. These are a bit heavier than the hand-built glasses, so are more durable, which might be a good thing if you're not super careful with your glasses. Also, these are LEAD FREE. I mention that because a lot of people seem to ask the question. The entire Riedel line from 2016 on is lead free, but there is still some older stock out there. The sticker on the glass says "crystal glass" which is their way of saying "no lead." Finally, these go through the dishwasher just fine, though you want to be careful that they don't bang up against anything, and you don't want to use too much soap. The dishwasher soap will probably etch the glass eventually if you wash them a lot. Riedel actually recommends a dishwasher over hand washing because it's actually much easier to break the glass when hand washing than in a dishwasher. I can attest to that from experience. I've never had one break in the dishwasher, but I've broken a couple of them when hand washing. ... show more

  • Read label carefully
Style: Gourmet
When ordering water glasses read label carefully. These are much smaller...they are still very nice glasses though...exactly like the ones I thought I was ordering except much smaller. My mistake.
