  • First time fun addiction, lifetime game changer.
Let me start by saying I rarely leave reviews, nevertheless a first review but this game is so so so unbelievable. Used with the cashflow mobile app, this game is life changing. I've read several of his books, yet, learning through concept vs innate strategy is a different ball game. Having opened the box after a family dinner ( bought it for myself and my brother ) it was so well designed and fun, everyone decided to play. Interesting to see how the game reflects reality in someways. Habits and purchasing tendencies ( and dare I say money fears ) after a few rounds became clear in the choices of each player. I found it fascinating to watch one person go from gambler to emotionally stuck due to frivolous purchases and start to make riskier emotionally driven moves as he fell behind. Behavior changes reflected his bank account, which was a total shock to all. 2 of us are big fans of law of attraction and abundance excercises. He's never been a believer, but the numbers and body language was clearly in need of help, there was no denying it. So we ran an experiment. 5 rounds we cheered him until he laughed and THEN made the choice to roll. The results. The more he had fun, the less emotional value he gave to money, the more his brain could make choices from a place of "it's coming now," vs " I don't have". Eventually hitting it big on a stock sale, he actually danced. After that sale, it was like a business mogul was unleashed. Moves became smarter and mistakes learned. Family members who we thought would win didn't ( total shock as they are great in business in real life ) and those whom we thought would lose, won. It made us all realize that our financial intelligence (and emotional attachments to money) needed a tune up. So much so we've decided that game nights are in order and will be buying the 202 version after mastering this one. The product itself is top notch quality and came in 2 days even though we selected free ground shipping. In conjunction with the app, its a much more favorable experience than doing all the math by hand. Allowing us to focus on strategy first. I'm a designer and attention to user interface, legibility, easy learning curve are important. The quality and organization of the game is very good. The box itself is not as big as I thought, but after unfolding, the game goard extends quite large. Can't compare to the classic as I've never seen one in person. As a first time user, the layout was simple, great color printing, durable paper stock and the dice & mice materials are of solid quality. The guidebook is fairy easy to use and navigate. There were a few questions that were not in the game rules and in a way had to create our own interpretation or fall into the answers during play. Such as how do you sell gold? Does one have to put back cards after property purchase or keep them like monopoly? These are more during the learning curve phase. The first time, it took us about 4+ hours to play with 4 people. Turns, learning rules and making decisions do take time. It was so much fun, can't wait to get more family members involved. Everyone is reconsidering their finances and some have already looked into more business opportunities and debt consolidation to get out of the rate race. Needless to say thank you for this game. I can only hope 202 carries these same standards and results. ( and app, love the app hope 202 gets developed soon ) If you want to learn to change financial habits and/or pin point where growth should happen in your life, get this game, now. ... show more

  • Super Fun Game
Style: Adult Version
My 25 year old son requested this game for Christmas. It sounded like an intriguing learning tool. Our family loved the game so much that I purchased a second one for our house as my son took his game to his home. We played every chance we could over the holiday. The games moved faster as we became more financially savvy and learned how to escape the Rat Race. We added the term Doodad to our family vocabulary. Now before making a real-life purchase, we challenge each other as to whether the purchase is a Doodad. My husband commented that he wished the developers of the game would add a “benefit” to having a child versus only an implied negative i. e. added expense which everyone wanted to avoid like being laid off. Perhaps there is a child benefit in the game that we haven’t encountered yet. Highly recommend the game for hours of fun. ... show more

  • Great Game! A few initial thoughts
Style: Adult Version
Move Over MONOPOLY!!! I played my first game last night and I have to say, I was really impressed with this. I'm using it to teach my wife about the importance of investing, money management, etc. I thought the game went really well and was really helpful. A couple suggestions for future iterations: 1) Add more "Doodad" spaces since this is what most people are (Currently) wasting their money on. This will do two things; first, make people realize how much they're wasting on junk they don't need, and second, diminish the number of deal opportunities making them HUNGRY for investment opportunities to get out of the buy-new-thing-have-no-cash cycle, which is the purpose of the game. 2) I'm not so certain about the reality of the cashflow opportunities from Multi-Level Marketing programs as depicted in the game. In the game, you invest $500 and then every turn thereafter roll to see if you get $500 back from your MLM. In reality, MLM's are usually invest $3,000 and get $20 back/mo. if you are lucky. (I don't do MLM's, but I know people who have tried several). I think the depiction in the game is over optimistic and likely to lead people inadvertently to scam MLM's. 3) I might make Easy Street, so that it's all Big Deal spaces instead. I never even made it halfway around the board before I had made the +$50K required to "Win". Or, make the new win condition +$250K or something? The only downside to the game is that the instructions are not very clear. Someone coming to finance -- not to mention financial statements -- for the first time will likely be confused. In particular the switch from the front side of the financial statement to the Easy Street side was confusing (Hey! What about my 2 houses and 3 condos?!) ... show more

• It's a cute game, but my 8-year-old can handle the grown-up game better.
Style: Kids Version
Sure, my 8-year-old does really understand stocks and such, but he's more than happy to invest in the real estate opportunities in Cashflow 101. It's just that the 101 game lasts too long and he loses focus. So I bought this kid's version and it's much simpler, but it really doesn't drive home the same lessons. (I love hearing him exclaim "Babies are too expensive!" when we play the 101 game!) The kid game has very low-stakes doodads and everyone ends up a winner. So it's a nice intro to counting and spending money, but no real accounting happens. Still, for very little kids, it's a good pastime. ... show more
