These shoes are great for beginners. I had a talk with a friend who said not to waste money on the plastic bear paw type of shoes and go for these. My kids strapped the shoes on and were able to easily maneuver in the shoes without tripping. The shoes come with poles, a carrying case, and attachments for mud/snow for the hiking poles. Glad I went for it and purchased these. I feel like they will last awhile....both kids have growing room in the boot straps. Highly recommend purchasing these! ... show more

Now that ski seasons gone (for east coast, very jealous of all the snow in the west!), we can pack up all the gear including these well loved snow shoes. We have our adult snowshoes for many years, and have been meaning to get kiddie ones for our children. We ordered this pair not hoping too much but we’re pleasantly surprised how well made and not just a “toy” these snowshoes are. They look really nice, more aesthetically pleasing than our adult ones for sure. They are easy to get on and off, and work just as well as ours. Mind you, we are not “professional” snowshoers (if there’s such a thing) so our snow shoes are good enough in our standard, as we ski and snowboard most of time and snowshoeing is just a side hobby. I love how there are poles with various bottom inserts for different ground condition. The metal spikes are great on gripping where there’s ice underneath the thin snow on some patches. We’ve only got this pair for our 9 yr. old which fits her well. We may get a smaller ones for our petite 7 yr. old. ... show more

I ordered these kid's snow shoes In January, but had to wait for some proper snow fall to review them well. They were packaged well, with cardboard between the spikes as to not ruin the opposite shoe in the box. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a carry case as well that zippers up with handles. Great for storage or travel. My 12 year old son tried them first. He needed some assistance getting them buckled on, as I did all the work. He was able to put his foot in, and I looped and tightened the buckle around his heel and he was off. It took only a few minutes of getting used to, and he was able to use them easily and without falling over. The poles helped as well. My 8 year old son used them after, and we didn't even need to readjust the buckle because the boots were of equivalent size or so even though their shoe sizes are varied. My 8 year old needed a bit more practice as he didn't understand they are meant for walking, He wanted to "play" in them, and he fell a few times, with some adjustments for getting up, he eventually go the hang of it. We only have been having a small amount of snow, not the normal big snow falls we get in November and December, so admittedly these would be even better in more snow than just a few inches. but we really look forward to using them for some snowy day walks and I would consider purchasing a few more pairs for my kids so we can all go together. This is a really nice beginner snow boot although tricky for a young kid to put on their self. ... show more

These 14" shoes were easy to put on my 5yo. No issues with walking in them. Pretty lightweight. Great traction on ice/snow. Poles are adjustable. Fun beginner shoes, happy with order.

First off I'm glad these snowshoes have the large cleat (second picture) as it's a real snowshoe. I was just a little surprised as it's marketed for children, and the days of lawn darts is long gone. My nine year old wears these nicely and I don't have to worry about her getting hurt. If you worry your little one might get hurt (or hurt someone else) with large metal spikes on their feet, this is probably not the product for you. ... show more

Ordered these for a 7 yr old. For a kiddo, they're fine, no complaints at all. If they were for an older individual inclined towards more aggressive activities, I'd think you'd need better bindings. These are of rather rigid materials and I'm not sure how long they'll hold up before they crack. But with as fast as kids grow, and the fact that they aren't going to see heavy use every day, I think they're just what we needed. Kiddo had to have help getting them on, but took off in them without any trouble. Fun stuff!! ... show more

I got these Retrospec Drifter 14/17 Inch Kids’ Bundle Snowshoes & Trekking Poles for my 9 year old son and so far so good. This whole set feels really well made and solidly built considering the fair price point. I was worried that they would be hard to put on and get off meaning we would end up not using them very often. But these are actually quite easy to put on and takeoff! I will say that the bottoms are pretty sharp, I mean they are metal spikes basically. So definitely take care if using our younger kids or really older kids or any kids.
