  • Big screen, solid machine
I'm a big street fighter II fan and have been wanting this unit for years, but the price point of $200 plus was a bit steep and I was holding off until the black friday weekend, when it was listed here for $179. At this point, I was willing to take the plunge, because the price is similar to other tabletop units like numskull quartercades and replicade 1/6 machines. The thing that stood out immediately was the size. When I came home to the box, I went, "Holy cow, this thing is huge" and even unboxing it the unit was still fairly large sitting on the table. As soon as I plugged it in, the sound was immediately noticeable, very crisp, clean and loud. I had to turn it down to about 1/4 the sound dial to make it more tolerable of volume. The screen itself is fantastic. There are 3 screen modes, one of which is pixel that is default, the second option makes it look like the old school arcade TV screens with the scan lines, and the final is a more smoother looking screen, which was the least interesting option to me. Joystick itself is responsive. I was mostly worried about the buttons because they felt more mushy and not crisp with a feedback and wondered if that would go well when I'm playing street fighter. Once I played, my concerns were quickly put to rest. The front edge of the unit made it slightly uncomfortable because my palms were there touching the volume knob as I played. I wished that the knob was moved elsewhere of the front slope is extended longer. Aside from that, I think the list of 10 games, I've only found a few interesting, because I'm not a megaman fan. I wished different capcom games were thrown in there, like ghosts and goblins, or final fight or 1942 or something else to make it more of a variety. The titles themselves were fine, but it is still a steep ask. I get that majority of the costs are into the hardware itself, but I wished TRON (the manufacturer) actually licensed out more titles here. There's just so much untapped potential and it just feels like a little short. So finally, hardware is great, list of games, ok. Pricepoint at under $200? why not. Over $200 will give me a pause. It's a looker, and retrostation would make for a neat looking decor in the house, but it's certainly more of a grown up toy IMO due to nostalgic elements and collectibility. ... show more

  • Great form-factor and loud sound!
This one has only been available via importing so it was nice to see here! Retrostation has a nice form-factor and the largest screen among all the mini arcade devices also loudest speakers by a large margin! There really is some emphasis on the bass in this system (maybe a bit too much). Only issue is the limited number of games. Everything plays great, I can pull off all the moves easily with the stick controls. ... show more

  • Hacked makes it 100x better!
So this is the Retro Station from Capcom! I have had my eye on it for a while but Amazon had them at 179.99 so I jumped on it! Originally comes with 10 games. 5 Street Fighter and 5 Megaman games. Thankfully it has been hacked and now I have nearly all the CPS1, 2 and 3 games running on it. CPS1 and 2 run full speed while 3 is a little slower but still playable. I am just overjoyed with this little guy! - The controls, screen and speakers are a million times better than any retro mini arcade or system I've played! You can also get external sticks to enjoy two player or sync up two units side by side! I'll probably opt for the external pad. Anyway love this beauty and can't recommend it enough!!! :) ... show more

  • Wow - Capcom gives the retro category the care it deserves
When i grabbed this, I did not have the highest expectations— you see these type of arcade machine all the time at Walmart as a money grab for big IP’s. But this was actually done quite well. If you are a capcom fan or a fan of some retro gaming you’ll love this. The HD picture looks extremely good and has a little curve that makes it look like one of those old tvs. The sound has phenomenal quality and even some bass. When I tell you the picture is great and the sound is great it’s an understatement. They could’ve easily cheaped out on sound and picture to save money and most people wouldn’t complain too much but it doesn’t seem like they did here. The Machine has 10 games - it’s a mashup of Mega Man vs Street Fighter. Some of the most iconic games in gaming history. These games are the template for modern fighters and platformers. The interface is actually well designed as well, you have multiple visual format that makes it more enjoyable. It even has a section to listen to the soundtrack of both mega man and street fighter. I love the street fighter soundtrack and it reminds me of my childhood. It has an HDMI output to allow you to play on the bigger screen. One con I have for the machine is that you can’t play with other people without buying a licensed additional controller and accessory from the maker. I tried plugging in a generic controller to the side. The boxing looks great, the capcom signage in the back and the embossing on the front of the machine are very fine details that are appreciated. There’s a fan on the bottom. It’s powered through it’s own personal power plug, unfortunately it’s not battery powered. The joystick and buttons feel like Arcade/Sanwa quality but you can tell they are close and not exactly it. But overall they are a decent set. The overall headset has a tilt of a couple of degree to adjust viewing angle and a mega man headset type design. Making it pretty cool as a visual piece that happens to work. You can plug a headphone in the back and HDMI out on to a larger screen. I wished you could plug other stuff into it like an HDMI “input” but it’s okay it’s not made for that reason. As a reto gamer and capcom fan this is perfect for children, old school gamers, and just anyone who appreciate a fine piece of history in modern amenities form. I was greatly surprised about how much I enjoy this and I’m sure you will be too. ... show more
