  • Fantastic flip and write game that works extremely well solo
If you're looking for a very involved, deep and tactical flip and write, this is the game for you. Although the theme and presentation are, well, a bit meh, the bits do their job and there are a LOT of sheets included, 200 of each of the two sections, so you won't run out any time soon. Each game plays out differently with a host of choices that aren't immediately prone to min/maxing or clear optimizations, so it feels fresh and interesting over multiple playthroughs. There is even a mini campaign for solo play officially available online, although I wish they had included it in the box. I've only played 3 players once, and it was very limited in it's interactivity, so I prefer this one as a solitaire exercise. One more thing I appreciate is that the box is perfectly sized to the components, no air or waste inside at all. It's compact, and perfect for that. All in all, highly recommended as a super fun solitaire flip and write. ... show more

  • Best of the best solo games
I love board games but unfortunately most people do not want to play them as much as I do. So I fnd games that play solo. This game is my most played game of all. With multiple ways to win, plenty of sheets to fill out, and a Roman time theme based on a real wall this game checked all the boxes for me. If you enjoy filling in squares with a pencil…This is for you. Did you love the movie The Eagle…this is for you. Do you like games that take up minimal space…this is for you. It does take a little bit to understand the strategies, but once you do, there are so many options to choose from keeping this game replayable over and over again (I’ve played it solo almost 60 times). The artwork is great…one of my top 3 games for Artwork. With a free downloadable solo campaign (easy to find online) this will give you hours of fun! ... show more

  • If you love combos and synergy…
Hadrian’s Wall is an emerging form within the Roll and Write genre. That is a game of higher complexity. It is a little more difficult to learn than many of these game types. It is more accessible if you have played the Ganz Schoen Clever series of Roll and Writes. The combo and synergy possibilities are outstanding. There are many areas of the game to explore. If you major in 1 or 2 areas and minor in a few other areas you can score well. Even hits during the battle phase can be mitigated. Those who enjoy Roll and Writes and GanzSchönClever will like this game. Perhaps you want a little less of an abstract experience? Hadrian’s Wall is for you. Maybe you want a heavier gaming experience in the roll and write/flip and write game type. The game is easy. to set up and to put away. It is physically heavy though with 400 sheets of paper. Having heavy permanent cardboard for dry erase would be a help. This game is a good next step for a roll and write/flip and write aficionado . ... show more

  • Solid worker placement in the style of a roll and write.
Great pedigree for the game designers shows through here. Great as a solitaire experience, even with others playing at the same time. Lots of choices, but still a relatively short play time.

  • Great Resource & Write
I had been eyeballing this game awhile. I have several Renegade Games titles in my collection also. What held me back was the price. Since picking it up I have played it three times. Everyone who has played it has enjoyed it. Lots going on but once you understand it, it is fairly simple to play. Plenty of pads for players. The box is 80% pads so no worries. Have had issues running out of Meeples. Wish it had more for the higher player counts. All in all I recommend this game. Don’t want to read the rules? Several good videos out there. So if it hits a price point you’re happy with get it. ... show more

Impressive Resource and Write game! Very heavy game to play but super fun. So may different ways to strategize and very replayable.

  • Solo Board Game that Really Makes You Think!
This is an excellent board game that's mostly a solo game (there is an element that plays off of your neighbors, but the game clearly shines as a solo efficiency puzzle) and is not for the feint of heart. It's a "roll and write" (no dice, just cards to flip) that really challenges the player to figure out the best use of the meager resources you get. The real fun comes from being able to combo chain and get more resources which let you get more resources which let you get...you get the idea. If you're not ready for a roll and write where you have two full pages of little squares to fill in, maybe stay away--but if you're up to the challenge, this is quite the excellent game. ... show more
