  • These boots were made for using
These boots will last years, if not decades. I beat the crap out of these boots regularly and they get super dried and scuffed. Take a thin layer of mink oil to them, and they look brand new. IT IS IMPORTANT, that you try to find a local store and try these on. I normally wear a 12 in any shoes, and an 11.5 in dress shoes. These boots I had to get in an 11. I have heard it recommended that you buy 1 half size below your dress shoe size, I agree. I have also heard, that it may be wise to order two pairs, and which ever fits, return the other (I know, who has the money.) If you get them too big, once the leather stretches, they will feel sloppy, and you will be stuck with them. And very disappointed. Finally, the break in period is ROUGH. It takes about a week of constant wear and movement to get them comfortable enough to not be crying all day. About two weeks to really forget you're wearing them. And about a month for them to become as soft as socks. Every day after that, you will be so happy to put on your boots every day, and you will walk with a smile. MINK OIL, I do recommend oiling your boots, but if you are just going to wear them to look fancy with your cuffed raw denim jeans, maybe the oil isn't for you. Mink oil will darken the boots. Especially if you use a lot. Apply a thin layer. But if you continue to wear them, and get them scuffed, they will lighten back up. I don't know how many of you can actually get some work done, but these are work boots. If you abuse them, they will thank you, and look better every day. In the pictures, you will see in some they are scuffed a little, and some they are oiled. ... show more

  • Best quality shoes I've ever had.
As an Australian I've never experienced American made quality boots, these have changed my shoe purchasing habits for life. I'm amazed at how good the quality of the leather is. I had never given much thought to the boots I wore as we really only get crappy shoes from China retail here (unless you buy RM Williams which don't appeal to me). The fit is amazing and they flex just where I expect it to. I found my size by drawing an outline of my foot on paper and measuring it's length and using a conversion table. Luckily for me I have pretty standard feet and I was able to do it this way, your results may vary. My feet are slightly narrow feet it seems and these D/medium sized boots are pretty much comfortable enough to wear all day after only spending one evening loosening them up, some tightness is there in the sides still but I know it will loosen up as leather always does. I can't really comment on the arch support so I'm not sure why this review wants me to answer that, but I can say that I have slightly high arches and these feel terrific on. Additional note: I wear nike free 5.0 in US size 12, Clarks Desert Boots in the equivalent of US size 11.5 and my Iron Rangers are size 11 US. (11 is the measurement I get when I measured the length of feet so I think these are true to size) ... show more

  • Red wing iron ranger 8111
This is the ultimate heritage boot in my opinion: sturdy, stylish, easy on and off, comfortable (after break in), goes great with everything and gets better with time. in terms of sizing: i can't be sure about it but i think many people are making the mistake of going down too much in size. my feet are about 11.25" long and 4.3" wide. at first i took the reviewers advice ang got a 10D. after 6 months or so i realized i made a mistake and went for the 10.5D, thought it was much better but after a year i came to the same conclusion and i got the 11D now which will be perfect for sure. what i'm trying to say is that, YES you can fit into whole size down and even more when these boots are new but when they start to strech and break in, then you start to fill the toe box touching your toes, especially after a few hours of wearing them. i wear my boots with a normal medium sport socks and my advice to you is to go half size down MAX and if you are between sizes, then to go down to the next size down like i did. ... show more

  • Beautiful, well made, three season sole.
Beautiful high quality boots. Like most Redwings, they run half to a full size large, so I would suggest sizing down (maybe order two pairs and keep the one you like). These boots will need to be treated with oil, so expect the color to darken a bit. They are very comfortable, with the exception that I've experienced some "bite" on the top of my foot where the eyelets/speedhooks are. I've had two pairs of Iron Rangers now and they each have this characteristic. Instead of cinching the laces tight I've been leaving them a little looser and it's made a big difference. Surprisingly, I actually like the look and feel of the cork/nitrile soles, but I am not looking forward to the northern winter with them. A note of caution: Like I suggested above, I ordered two pairs of these for comparison, but one box came with two left boots. ... show more

  • Stompin in my redwing boots
These boots are very sharp. I wear them to work everyday. Our dress code is business casual. They aren't the most comfortable boots but they aren't painful to wear either. This is my 3rd redwing shoe purchase. The other 2 are works boots and casual leather shoes and they are much more comfortable than the iron rangers. But the iron rangers are much nicer looking. The second day wearing these boots I wore them to a charity event and I walked 2 miles in them on a paved bike path. I wore thick socks and ended up with no blisters. Been wearing them practically every where I go for the past month. I usually buy extra wide shoes bUT I decided to give these a go in wides. They fit fine even with thick socks. ... show more

  • Well-made American boots, they run large
They say to order a half to a full size down. I wear a size 12 in all my shoes, and ordered these in a 11. The width is good, but the toe box is still pretty roomy, mostly on the left boot. Seems odd, maybe it’s just this pair. I’m going to try ordering another half size down.
