  • Amazing Product - Completely Cured Kettling Issue
Style: 1 Quart
Our house has a hot water baseboard heating system. The Weil-McLain boiler is almost 30 years old, but still functioning fine except for a nasty case of kettling that started developing a couple of years ago. It would make very noticeable popping/banging noise that echoed through the pipes of the heating system, especially those closest to the boiler in the heating circuit. Although the system was heating OK, I hated that kettling noise so much I got a quote for replacing the boiler with a new one, at close to $8000. Being a thrifty sort, I did some research on the topic and after reading all the positive reviews for this Rectorseal product, I decided it to try it. The quart bottle of Rectorseal 8-way treatment is claimed to treat systems up to 25 gallons. I did some quick calculations and found that my heating system was close to that volume. To install the product, I turned off the boiler, closed the valves to isolate the boiler from the rest of the system, closed the automatic water feed valve, relieved the pressure in the boiler, and drained about a quart of water from it to make room for the treatment. I removed the hy-vent unit on the top of the boiler, poured in the full quart, reinstalled the hy-vent, and then let it sit for about 8 hours. I don't know if that was necessary, or what the optimum amount of time would be, I just thought it would be a good idea to let the full quart sit in there for a while before opening the valves and diluting it with the water in the rest of the system. After 8 hours, I opened all the valves that I had closed previously, turned on the boiler, and bled the air from the system. I was very happy to find that the kettling issue was completely gone! As a precaution, I drained some water from the spigot at the bottom of the boiler in case there was any sludge that needed to be flushed out, but none came out. According to the instructions, the 8-way treatment can be left in the system to prevent future corrosion and buildup, so that's what I did. It's been a few weeks since I did this procedure and there has been no kettling at all. I am very very pleased with this product! ... show more

  • Seems to be working

My system was very rusty. I’m not sure why but the ph was definitely down. I had an 1 1/2 nipple actually get a pinhole. I have two cast iron boilers in my system with a mix of radiant and baseboard. I flushed out the horribly rust water. Refilled it with fresh and added the 8 Way. I added until I got the deep purple color. I’ve since drawn off a few samples and the water is transparent still. No sign of the sludge. Hopefully it stays that way. ... show more

  • amazing product, was a delay in shipping but merchant ...
Style: 1 Quart
amazing product, was a delay in shipping but merchant kept me up to date on delivery, finally arrived and I used it on my boiler and wow! what a difference, I went from knocking and banging noises on the pipes every time the boiler would turn on to heat the house, to no noise! I was shocked! , I dont know how the product works, I just works and it made me a beleiver. I just ordered another bottle and will be getting the gallon bottle as well which may be more cost effective to run this before every season to flush out the system as instructed, then add a second quart and leave it in there. before this product i would have to weekly empty out 1 to 2 buckets of water to keep the rust out of the system, now with this rust inhibitor product in addition to the other things it does, I no longer have to do that, it has saved me both time and money. very very happy customer and defintely recommend to anyone to make their boiler run smoothly, also, depending on your boiler size, you may need more than one quart per application, for mine, only 1 quart was needed since 1 quart I believe treats up to 30 gallons or so. I'm spreading the word to all my neighbors who's boiler is similar to mine so they can also benefit. ... show more

  • Seven years and still working well
Style: 1 Quart
I purchased this in February when I was replacing the boiler myself. Took my time and did it right! This water treatment has been in my system for roughly 7 years now and when I check my system and service it I still find almost no rusty water to speak of. I use a white five gallon bucket for this purpose and the bucket inside is only slightly stained brown. Very pleased ! Coming up on man major service and going to retreat with another quart! ... show more

  • Really cleans out rust in steam boiler
Style: 1 Gal.
I paid $400 for plumber to flush and clean my steam boiler. After seeing what he did and thought it was such a simple maintenance job which i can do it myself. So i researched and came across this product and decided to give it a try my self last fall before winter kicks in. A trick I learnt from the plumber, there's a outlet hose connected the return pipe that carries condensed water back to the steam boiler. All he did was to raise the hose high and pour this liquid slowly into the hose, the liquid will flow back to the boiler tank. I follow this method twice in last winter to flush out rust and now my boiler is now cleaned. I can see that the clear water in the sight glass. ... show more
