  • Really Fun Game, Highly Recommended
Marvel Villainous is my preferred Villainous universe to play, as it is more interactive. I do have experience with the first box set, as I played that a few times at my Uncle’s house. When I heard about this expansion, I was really excited, especially for Kang. I do like the other two villains and mechanics, but Kang is by far my favorite. However, at least in my experience with this set, it is pretty easy to win as Kang as he has variants that are played to other players boards. You do play variants to his board as well, but you must vanquish his variants on other players boards to conquer their locations and win. Doctor Octopus is fairly easy, as you only have to complete 5/6 schemes to win as him. Some schemes are harder to complete than others, which is why winning as him is not as easy, especially when you play fate cards. Speaking of fate cards, there are events, as in other marvel villainous sets, but I don’t play using events because it does make the game longer. I never heard of Titania before getting this box set, but she is honestly not very hard to win as either. You have to become empowered (get up to 8 strength on her strength tracker) to defeat She-Hulk. You have specific cards in her villain deck that allow you to either increase or decrease her strength on the tracker, as well as a targeted event fate card that, once completed, allows you to increase her strength by two. You can use her in vanquish actions though, which I really like, especially when you vanquish a hero that has either the same strength as or higher than Titania, which also increases her strength. I forgot to mention that there are difficult levels to this version of the villainous brand. You have the easy mode, which is what I play and have mentioned above where you don’t play with events (made more for beginners), a medium difficulty where you incorporate events, but you can only play one global event at a time and have targeted events for each villain, and than the hard difficulty where you can play more than one global event at a time. I do also play solo mode (not an official mode of the game, and can be pretty game-breaking at times), and I find myself playing as her more when I do so. Second is Doctor Octopus, while Kang is impossible to play solo, as since I said in my brief summary of him, he needs to conquer other villains locations. Overall, I highly recommend this set. I am planning on getting all the other sets at some point, and I would love to play a game of Kang going against Thanos and Loki, which I think will be an interesting match up. ... show more

  • Pretty fun game but hard to focus on anything but what you're doing.
Villainous is an action selection game where each player picks a different baddy and tries to accomplish their own nefarious scheme. The first one to do so wins the game. While each player has a different goal and plays a little differently, everyone basically does the same thing. Each turn, you will pick a place to go on your individual player board and do the actions on that space. Some of these actions can be disabled by annoying do-gooders or possibly even other villains' henchmen. These blockers have to be fought and defeated in order to restore the space's full functionality. I played this for the first time with my two gaming buddies. Both of them had played some version of Villainous before this one, I had not. I am writing this review after only one play which I normally wouldn't do but it is unlikely that I will play this again, so this is the best I can do. While you do have some ability to affect the other players, in practice I found that I was mostly just doing my own thing. I couldn't really see the other player's mats very well, so it was a little hard to track what they were doing. Since there was very little that I could do to affect them in any case, I really just focused on getting my own task done. The biggest problem with asymmetric games like this where players have different abilities or goals, is getting the balance right. Since I only played one game, I obviously can't speak to this too authoritatively but in the game I played it seemed pretty one-sided. I won, and when I finished my goal, one of the other players was only about half way done and the other was only at 20%. In most games, we are pretty evenly matched, so this seemed like an issue with the game. If I liked it more, I would try again with a different villain, but I'd rather spend my limited gaming time playing something I liked better. The components are fine. The artwork is good as expected from Marvel. The cardstock is a little thin, so if you think you will play a lot, you might consider sleeves. Overall, I'd say that Marvel Villainous: Twisted Ambitions is an okay game, but not one that I particularly want to play again. ... show more

  • Great addition
It’s a terrifically fun addition to the game. Kang adds tons of interesting complexity to the gameplay, Titania has interesting mechanics, and dr octopus finally adds tons of great Spider-Man cards.
