Description

The round point shovel is the most popular type of shovel in North America. The Root Slayer Round Head Shovel is a heavy duty, root cutting version of that shovel with an inverted V cutting tip instead of a round point. As with all Root Slayer products, you should consider buying this shovel when you have dense clay soil, rocks & shale in your soil, roots & other dense organic material. This shovel, with its very ample surface area, will move a lot of dirt without getting hung up on minor obstructions. You'll be amazed at how quickly & easily you can move & divide perennials & shrubs with this monster shovel.

  • Radius shovel
Style: Round Head Shovel
This is one of the best shovels I've used in a long time. I have a narrower one just like it, but the width of this one really is great for planting.

  • Does the Job!
Style: Round Head
I needed to dig 6-18" deep sono-tube holes for deck footings and I live in Jacksonville, FL, where you will find horizontal-running roots ranging from tiny to 3' thick everywhere under the surface dirt. The soil is sandy clay and this shovel cuts right thru the soil and right thru most of the small roots. Where it wouldn't cut thru on it's own weight, an assist jump on the top sliced right thru everything in my way. It cost a bit more than renting a post hole digger but then I can use this whenever I need to now, and there will be more opportunities. Great product, solid build and good weight balance between lifting and puncture. ... show more

  • Works as intended, be careful there aren’t any buried lines and pipes
Style: Round Head
Cuts through roots no problem, maybe too good at what it does if you want some forgiveness around buried lines.

  • Sturdy handle, weak shovel point design. Gimmicky Stomp & Push Cutter 'shovel'
Style: Round Head Shovel
A short, heavy shovel. Blade is thick & heavy duty. But the twin fork prods in the middle point of the shovel may be good for cutting roots, but not good for shoveling & moving regular material like dirt or gravel or general debris. That fork is a weakness & limits the shovel's volume capacity & prying ability. Plus the twin points might be easily damaged when used like a regular shovel,... like prying up a rock or under an edge of a sidewalk or burried rock etc.. So this is more of a stomp & push cutter device. Unlike some claims, underground rock(s) stop penetration like any shovel. Rocky, stoney soil will quickly dull the cutting surfaces. As for the round handle, can't really experience any advantage to it,... more of a gimmick I'd say. Shaft is too short to bury the handle in my stomach & drive forward with the power of my legs. Shaft & loop handle are heavy & strong,... but needlessly heavy given the short shaft & vulnerable twin point are weaknesses that negate any advantages of the short, heavy loopy shaft. BOTTOM LINE: Earns ***THREE-3*** Stars. ... show more

  • Engineered like a battle tank with an attitude!
Style: Round Head
I have owned many shovels in my time and the Root Slayer is in a class all its own! I have finally found the shovel i've been needing for 20 years! If you want badass, you got it. First, it's heavy. Man heavy. "Just right heavy" due to the solid steel head and neck. It cuts through 1" roots like butter. It's length allows me to stand up straight and deliver a strong blow to any root i encounter. The teeth on the edge clears smaller roots as I dig. And with the heaviness of it, i can dig a hole in half the time. And don't worry about bending the neck it you pry up a large rock -the rock will break before the Root Slayer does. Hats off to a company that knows the meaning of quality and value. I HIGHLY recommend the Root Slayer. Thanks! ... show more

  • this is the HE-MAN of shovels!
Style: Round Head
I've had this beast for more than a year and have worked it hard. Sure, the usual stuff a shovel is supposed to do, but I've hacked and slammed and beaten this thing. It just smiles and asks for more. If it's ever necessary I'll definitely order another one, but I don't think I can break it!

  • Heavy duty but very heavy to handle for me
Style: Round Head
Liked the sawtooth bite on shovel head. The foot ridges on the shovel are also a plus. I found the handle too long to get a good purchase and it’s slippery for me and heavier than I expected. As a result I only use it for big digs like removing a dead bush, digging in clay soil, etc. it’s not my routine “go to” shovel, but it’s there for the big jobs. ... show more
