Yeah, this thing is made wrong. Rather than being clamped to the base, the tweezers are SOFT soldered to it. This is terrible manufacturing! It broke the first time I used it. So I went to my local jeweler's supply and bought a properly made version of the same thing for just over half the price I paid for this. I'm having bad luck with Amazon lately. First time I ordered this, it wasn't in the package, so they refunded me and I reordered it--and now they shipped me this piece of garbage. :-\ ... show more

... Because it works like a charm! This works exactly like I expected and that makes me happy. I really like the weight of the base, it was the only concern that I had about this purchase. I've gotten a similar set-up from a now defunct retailer and the base only had about an ounce of weight in it.
