This cue does is very good in comparison to most mid-tier cues. I bought this as my first "real cue" after a couple of months of playing in my first league. I've had many compliments on this cue. If you are looking to become a serious player and want to improve your game get this! Somethings to keep in mind: The tip on this cue is smaller than you would think it's going to be... Which is a good thing! Really helps you to learn to hit straighter and allows you to add serious spin with tons of practice of course. This cue is a low deflection cue, which just means if you add spin it doesn't push the cue ball as far to the side as other cues would. This helps you with your aiming when adding side spin (english) to the cueball! The tip comes pre-shaped to a good curvature. But I did reshape it fairly quick (any experienced player in your league can help you with this) I have only reshaped it one time since buying it in July (now December) I play very frequently, 2-3 times a week with 4-8hrs of play on each of those days. You shouldn't use this stick for breaking, It has a softer tip than other cues which means the tip can flatten faster. I bought a separate 3 piece jump/break cue (Players JB5 Midnight Black Jump Break Cue 20 oz I wish I got the 21oz though) Overall this is a solid cue for a solid price. If you are serious about getting better and learning the game investing in this cue and learning to use it can definitely help your game a lot. I have been using it for over 6 months and I don't have a single issue with it. The weight is good, the size is good, the grip is fantastic, the tip is a good quality professional tip, its well balanced and tapers up at a great length.     • Amazing cue for the seasoned player.
Great cue for the money! You can pay more, but the purex will play as good as any other cue on the market. I ordered exactly as described, The sounds it makes when striking cue ball with English is better than my old Joss. It just makes a solid sound, and not hollow or other odd sounds. The tip is amazing, and likely the most expensive tip on the market costing like $30.00. Cue came without any dents unlike one I bought months ago that had a dent in the shaft. The grip is nice as you can feel it, where the threaded grip you cant really feel, it's a nice rubbery grip totally different from other cues. The cue has a slightly narrow shaft than beginner shafts, so that is why it may not be good for beginners, and may want to research this thought. Maybe able to call the company and have a larger shaft, like a 13 MM. this one is more a professional size shaft, I believe. It has upped my game, which is almost hard to believe, but it did. I purchased this stick for myself, as I wanted a real quality stick to play with! This pool stick is my favorite stick I own, and I own 8 pool sticks, so that’s saying something about the high quality of this stick. I play my best pool game ever with it! I have played pool my entire life since I was about 8 years old, and with all those years of playing under my belt, I must say that I am pretty good at the game. This stick has improved my game even more so than I played before I bought it! So this stick is now indispensable to me! The craftsmanship of the cue is very well down. The grip really gives you the control and doesn't slip in your hand at all. The soft layered tip gives superb control over the cue ball and the low deflection gives you a true shot. Mine did come in as a 20oz and does have a removable weight which is a great feature. I would recommend this cue to anyone that is looking to step up from the novice to intermediate level. ... show more

    • EXCELLENT CUE !!!
I have been playing with the same 12mm 21oz cue for many years, and thought I played pretty good with it too, until I bought this HXTC14. My game immediately improved. Maybe it's the low deflection shaft Pure-X brags about, I don't know. What I do know is I love the stick's balance, and I expecially love the pro taper 11.75mm shaft. Bottom line, I am VERY happy with this cue, and look forward to using it for years to come! Note: If you want the cue to be 21oz (like I did), don't just order the cue straight from the Amazon warehouse (like I did). Although it does have a removable weight bolt, you will have a hard time finding a bolt heavy enough to take it from 19oz to 21oz. Contact the seller first (ProGear) and they will make sure you get the weight you want. Absolutely the best customer service I've dealt with in many years! ... show more
