  • If you haven't bought a PS3 yet, this is the bundle to get.
It took a deployment to Afghanistan to finally break down and purchase a PS3, but I'm glad I finally made the decision. The 320GB Uncharted 3 bundle is perfect for the adventure/action game types that really aren't interested in the Move bundle. I already have the Kinect for the 360 back home, and while neat, I found it to be a bit of a gimmick. Add in that space is a premium out here, I felt that the Move was an unnecessary premium. I owned the original PS3 a few years back and I have to say that the fit and finish of the lighter slim doesn't seem as nice as the original (IE, satin black versus the nicer looking Piano Black) but I wouldn't go so far as to call it cheap. It seems this time around, it's just the basics, but you have to ask yourself: How often are you staring at your gaming console anyway? I probably don't have to tell you that the graphics are on par with the 360. I haven't had the two side by side, but nothing has been so significantly better to stand out from what you'd expect from the competing console. Really these days, with an exception of a few rare exclusive games, your decision is probably more on what controller you're more comfortable with. Speaking of controllers, the tried and true wireless Playstation controller is still mostly unchanged and feels like it could still take the beatings that most controllers do. But that's enough about the console. Uncharted 3 is probably one of the most enjoyable bundled games I've played since the days when Sonic 2 and Super Mario World were the standard issue. The controls are easy to pick up, the storyline is intriguing, action packed, and character development is quite good. I hadn't played the first two games, but with the plot of the number 3 installment being pretty self contained, I was able to step right in without feeling lost in the events. I likened the game to Indiana Jones or The Mummy, set in modern times. You follow the footsteps of Nathan Drake and his friends as they search for lost treasure by puzzle solving, fist fighting, and shooting their way across the globe. Throughout the game, you wonder if he also moonlights as a parkour champion, as you spend a good deal of your time climbing and making death defying leaps over obstacles in your way. The game's pace is very good at going from highs and lows, and not staying in either for too long. You may find yourself solving one of the game's many puzzles only the next to end up in an epic shoot out as you try to escape a burning building. I will say that the game is not for the faint of heart. Even on normal, you may find yourself dying... a lot. There are just certain ways to do some things and the game doesn't always reward brute force. Despite this, the single player campaign gets a 5 out of 5 in my book. Multiplayer, for a tack on feature is actually pretty fun. I haven't tried any of the online features yet, but the split screen offers co-op modes of a separate story line, as well as deathmatch-like scenarios such as capture the flag, base defense, and survival. It's no Halo or Modern Warfare, but I'd give the multiplayer a high 3 out of 5. So in conclusion, if you have been on the fence about the PS3, love adventure/action games, and not really interested in gimmicks like the Move, this is definitely the bundle for you. ... show more

  • <3 The System, The Game is Ok
I'm a big fan of the Uncharted series, but I mainly want this review to be about the system. That's why you're really buying this set, right? ...but briefly: I loved Uncharted, and I own Uncharted 2, both great...Uncharted 3 just doesn't have the drama that those two games had, but it does have some great moments of gameplay. On to the system: I bought this, because I like portability. I got the PS3, soon after it came out (but, not soon enough to get one of the PS2 backwards compatible ones). Obviously, this system is smaller, and much lighter. Another thing I disliked about my first PS3: the noise. My PS3 is my whole entertainment system, for my bedroom; I hated watching a film, or listening to music, and hearing the loud fan noise, especially when the fan boosted to compensate for the heat. This system is so quiet that I unplugged it, because I thought it was already off (and my head was about 6" away). There are design improvements: The system doesn't get as hot, and there are less air vents (and better designed). So, dust isn't as big of a problem, with the slim. The matte finish isn't the fingerprint leech that its predecessor was (and if you purchase a vinyl skin, you'll have even less to worry about). ...and, if you're interested in upgrading the hard drive, the PS3 slim's drive is much easier to remove. Usually, I don't hear any noise from the system, and my room is quiet enough for me to notice. In fact, my MacBook is louder than the PS3 Slim. Occasionally, I do hear the drive scanning/loading a disk, but I haven't noticed any change in performance, going from an 80GB PS3 fat, to the 320GB PS3 slim. I recommend getting a vinyl skin (for the ps3) (Bundle Monster Vinyl Skin Sticker For PlayStation PS3 S SLIM Game Console - Cover Protector Art Decal - Dragon Ying Yang), a PS3 Silicone Controller Sleeve - Black, Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, Fresh Scent, 75-Count Tubs (Pack of 6), and some covers for the unused ports - such as this: Cosmos Clear silicone anti-dust stopper/plug set - 2x USB, 2x 3.5mm earphone/mic jack, 1x SD card slot, 1x mini-display port, 1x 1394/fireware, 1x RJ45 for macbook PRO/regular/AIR aluminum unibody + Cosmos cable tie (USB+Ethernet...not sure if there are covers for the A/V port, HDMI, or optical). That's just some helpers, if you want to keep your system clean and looking like new, with less work. ... show more

  • Ten Thumbmashees outta Ten]]]]]]]]]]
I am going to add to this review later in greater detail, but I want get this out here now. Sony has made a wonderful piece of techno gear here. This is basically a larger and far more techie version of the awesome Sony PSP machine, not portable though, but easily transportable to other locations. 01.Play games on BluRay based game discs. Highest definition material you can buy at 1080p! 02.Watch BluRay based movies on the best player you can buy(highly acclaimed and reviewed). 03.Listen to music on mp3, CD, etc. 04.Watch your TV shows or movies that you have recorded in mp4 format. 05.Surf the internet or Playstation Network 06.View your pictures and photos 07.Attch USB storage devices for more music, videos, pictures, and games. 08.Connect Android phones or PSPs for added support and with Bluetooth. 09.WiFi and Bluetooth airwave connectivity. 10.Play your PS1 games on the ps3. Not for ps2 games. I have a ps3, ps1, and a ps2 and several gaming computers. How does the ps3 stack up? It annihilates the ps2 in every category and loses to a top quality gaming computer for graphics, extra functions, use of a mouse while playing games. Games can be had much cheaper on a pc also. ps3 games are automatically patched and updated through the network which is something ps2 never had. Game graphics are amazing considering the system is in a very small box compared to a gaming computer where high end graphics cards can produce fantastic video. Just like the PSP, how do they get it all in one small case? Does everyone need a ps3? No! BUT, I would recommend everyone have one. I have a great gaming computer but Sony has made a must have piece of technology for a wide spectrum of the public. Don't play games, try it, or just watch Blu-Ray movies. Your grandkids will visit you way more often if you have one. You may know where your kids are more often. ... show more

  • The 320GB PS3 Slim - a good choice if you don't want to upgrade to PS4 for a while...
Recently, my five year old PS3 Fat 60GB started showing signs of age, among other things it appears to be getting louder and it seems to be running hotter. So I finally decided to upgrade to a newer PS3 model. Even though my Fat 60GB hard drive is small (I never upgraded it), it is a tough act to follow with the features it has compared to the "newer" PS3's. First off, it is one of the few PS3's that is PS2 disc-compatible (without having to repurchase your game from the PS Store), it has four USB slots, and it has media card slots - which I use frequently because I own a Sony HD Video cam that uses the HG Duo memory card. I was surprised to find out that the newer models don't have near the features as my Fat model did, but I can see now that was an economic decision by Sony to lower the production cost and lower the cost of the PS3's to the consumer. When I started doing the research on the next unit, I thought I was ready to purchase the new "Super Slim" PS3 with 500GB. But after a little more research, I balked after comparing it to the Slim model; and when I went and looked at the Super Slim in person I was not that impressed with the "new" build construction. YMMV, but it just seemed to me that it was not as solidly constructed as the Slim model, and nowhere near the solid construction of the Fat model. I guess I am old-fashioned in this sense, I actually prefer things that are solidly built as opposed to some of the "newer, cheaper" lifecycle many manufacturers go through. More importantly, the new top-loading disc tray of the Super Slim did not appeal to me. I thought the door that slid open was poorly made, and it was not smooth. Then, I heard the disc loading process, and I could hear it spinning and other noises. Finally, the fan was still semi-loud - not as bad as the original "Fat" (which can be loud), but it was still fairly audible and louder than the Slim model I looked at (see below). I then kept doing more research, and went over to a friend's house who had the "Slim" model. His was a 250 GB I recall, but the important thing was it still had the front loading disc, it was dead quiet, and it ran very cool. Compared to the FAT, it was cool to the touch, where the FAT is noticeably hot after running for a while. His was 3 years old he said, and never had an issue. I did not like the fact it only had 2 USB ports, and no media card slots, but then again that is the way most of the PS3's have been configured for quite a few years now. I also did not prefer the predominantly matte plastic construction - but did like the smaller footprint and lighter weight. And even though the construction is not as solid as the Fat model, it is definitely a step up from the Super Slim IMHO. It also has the matte finish, which I am lukewarm about, but at least no more fingerprints! So based on further research checking out articles / forums for the choice between the Slim / Super Slim, I went with the 320GB *Slim* model (Uncharted III Package). We have been using it for a about a week now, and my initial impressions are good. I like the smaller size, it runs cool, and I don't hear any fan or disc noise - it is dead quiet. It does everything identically to my original Fat PS3, I do not notice any performance differences while gaming, watching Bluray and 3d Blu ray, or navigating with it. It was a seamless upgrade in every sense. I did do a PS3 to PS3 transfer of the data from the old FAT system to the new Slim, and that went off without a hitch. I am very pleased with the new Slim model, and I am glad I made this choice. I do not want to be an "early adopter" of the PS4, and plan on getting a couple of more years out of the PS3 platform / titles. I will consider the PS4 after the kinks / bugs are worked out, and when there are a plethora of game titles available for it. I never like to be on the bleeding edge for new technology, and why I am opting to upgrade my PS3 with the Slim model. The old FAT is going into the family room as a Blu ray player, and for occasional second gaming station. I plan on upgrading the Slim 320GB with a 750GB drive as my boys are demanding more room these days, and then I will put the 320GB drive from the Slim into the older FAT. I can only hope the Slim lasts as long and works as well as my FAT did, and I will update at a later date if needed if I find anything that warrants it. Bottom line is that I ended up choosing the Slim model over the Super Slim model to bridge the time until I make the PS4 leap Your mileage may vary, but I don't think I am alone in this choice. The Slim models are getting harder to obtain for a fair price, and I bet around the time the PS4 comes out they will be even more scarce. Thanks for reading!! ... show more

  • Awesome Bundle with great game
I purchased this bundle for my nephew to upgrade him from a launch PS3 model. This new PS3 slim is much quieter and smaller then it's previous model and can hold more than 5 times the amount of saved data on it's huge 320 gb hard drive. The transfer of data from his old PS3 60 GB to his new PS3 slim 320 GB was easy enough and painless. The transfer requires a cat6 Ethernet cable to be connected from one console to the other and the process take about an hour or less. The entire process can be viewed on YouTube which makes it easy just follow the process step by step and you can transfer all your saved data to your new unit. Overall, Both I and my nephew have been PS3 owners since 2008 and we have never had any issues whatsover with our units. They have performed flawlessly for us. I would never switch to XBox due to it's more than 50% failure rate....no thanks. I would definitely recommend this bundle to anyone looking to purchase a PS3 320 GB, not only do you get a quality console from sony but you also get a built in bluray player for free. You also get a free Uncharted 3 game so how can you go wrong. Enjoy....I know my nephew is already doing so. ... show more

  • From an Xbox user since 2007
I thought I would write up this review and cover some of the things I feel others have left out of their reviews of the PS3. First thing, PS Home. It's a full-on virtual world for you and your friends to mingle, play FREE games within PS Home, customize your house (which if I had this nice of an apartment with this awesome of a view in real life I would be one very happy camper), customize your avatar (which is 100x more realistic than your cartoony Xbox avatar), among other cool things I'm sure, all for FREE. My only complaint with PS Home is the pricing of some of the avatar and apartment extras, but this is a complaint on Xbox too. I mean this is digital clothes and furniture we are talking about here, not physical! I shouldn't have to pay a real dollar for a digital shirt for my digital avatar. I guess they have to make money on something though. Second, PS+. Sure you can play online with your friends free (which is a major plus for PS3). So why pay for PS+? I'll tell you why. The wealth of freebies! Already in my 30 day PS+ trial I have downloaded; 3 PSone games (Syphon Filter 1-3), 4 Minis (sort of like small XBLA games), also both PSone games & Minis can be played on PS3 and PSP. Saving the best for last, Back to the Future: The Game Episodes 1-5 (which is a PS3 exclusive, and was a big disappointment for me when it came out and I didn't have a PS3 yet, as I am a huge BTTF fan). All for FREE! What I'm not 100% sure about is whether you can still play these games if you cancel the PS+ subscription, but if Sony keeps it coming with the freebies, it more than justifies the cost of PS+. Third, DC Universe Online. It's FREE! Free to download & free to play! I'm currently downloading it, clocking in at around 15GB, and with my slowish DSL it is gonna take about 5 forevers, but I have no doubt it will be worth the wait time. I will say this though, I'm not 100% sure if it currently being free for me is due to the PS+ subscription or not, but if you need PS+ to play it, it's still cheaper than most pay-to-play MMOs. When you buy a new PS3 these days, you are given just a wealth of extras. I am highly impressed! I haven't even hardly cracked into the Uncharted series, which is the reason I bought a PS3 in the first place. Sony has won me over, and while Xbox Live has impressed me over the years, PS+ definitely gives you more bang for your buck. Will I get rid of my 360 now? Not a chance! Most multiplats work/look better on 360. Besides, I have WAAAY too many 360 games that I love. I have always been a multi-console kind of guy anyway, and now my current generation family is complete, and this newest family member brought gifts with it! Hooray! My PS3 looks quite dashing next to my Xbox 360 & Wii... So in closing if you don't have a PS3 yet. What are you waiting for? Go for it! You will not be disappointed! EDIT: The freebies from PS+ do expire with your PS+ service, but you can play them as long as you are a PS+ subscriber. They also renew when you renew, so if you let your PS+ membership run out, you can always get your games back once you sign back up. Now going on 2 months of PS+ service I have well over 20 games from the service that didn't cost me an extra penny, so $50 a year is well worth it in my opinion. PS+ is also shaping up to be a way better value to me than XBL Gold, I have never received any free games from Xbox in my 5 years of being a XBL Gold subscriber. As for DC Universe Online, it's free-to-play whether you have PS+ or not, so it's a decent alternative to all the pay-to-play MMOs out there. Sure WoW might be a tad more fun, but seriously who wants to pay $10 a month just to play 1 game. Unless you have unlimited time to play games you are simply wasting money with pay-to-play games. So there you have it. You are getting a lot of bang for your buck with PS3, so what are you waiting for? I noticed the price on this bundle is going up, which means they probably aren't making this particular bundle anymore. Although I'm sure there is another similar bundle out there. ... show more

  • Good Product
I'll keep this to-the-point since the important stuff has already been said. -Came in good condition, right on time. -I'm an Xbox360 owner, and this is my first ps3. The difference in quietness between the systems in astounding. The ps3 fan is at least 50% quieter than my Arcade-lawnmower-monster-thing. -There's so many possibilities for this system. Looking foward to playing classic Final Fantasy games off the PSN, watching some Blu-Ray movies on my new High-def tv, doing some multiplayer Uncharted with friends. -Controller is nice--I'm hardly a loyalist to any particular system, but I like the feel of the 360's controler a wee bit better. The introduction of pressure sensitivity to the L2/R2 buttons is a nice touch since the ps2 controllers. -I confess I haven't broken the seal on Uncharted 3 yet. I'm still waiting to play the other games first. But if it neccessitates a change in my score, I will do so. -Set up of the system was simple and easy, partially because I have only done it with a bazillion other consoles before it, but it shouldn't give any but the most unlucky (or technologically impaired) any trouble. -Games look beautiful over the HDMI cable. Get one if you can, if you have an HD tv. Looking forward to many hours of play! If I run into any problems, I'll be changing the score, but I've done all I can at this point. ... show more

  • I might want my bulky 80Gig back
Firstly note that I understood that neither of my PS3s were PS2 backwards compatable. I accepted that from the get go and enjoyed my old PlayStation 3 80GB System for close to 3 years. A few weeks ago I noticed amazon was offering me up to $173 for a trade in so I traded up/purchased this new 320GB slim. Here is what I noticed: Good: 1-Netflix and Hulu run a lot smoother (I can browse without constant loading and PS3 resets) 2-Uncharted 3 was entertaining 3-320G is a lot of space 4-The overall footprint of the system allows for easier integration into entertainment displays/stands 5-The overall decibel output of the cooling fans is less intrusive than the 80Gig Bad: 1-The overall decibel output of the hard drive and disk drive is greater than the 80Gig (you dont need to look at the yellow light you will hear when it is reading and writing) 2-Some fast paced games now hang (For example moves executed in Ar tonelico Qoga or Trinity Universe show noticeable lag, but Batman Arkham City gameplay seems to be unaffected). I do not know if this is because the HD is of lower quality or what. Moreover, I'm about to play some New Vegas to see if this problem is not simply limited to NIS games that require massive calculations per second for damage.
