This is the second hat I have bought, the first one I've had for 17 years, still wear it doing yard work, it definitely has wear and tear but has been a great hat. The new one seems to be made out of the same high quality material. It's great for hunting, fishing, doing yard work, it's just a good outdoor hat. Dr. told me to wear a wider brim hat (I was wearing baseball caps when outside walking, working in the yard .playing golf, etc) to get greater protection from the sun. This is my 2nd Propper - initial one is tan , and I wore while doing a painting project - got stained. Original hat still 100% usable - just looks kinda beat. New one is perfect color and size. The strap broke really quick but the actual hat didn't fall apart at all. Strap is cheap, rest of the hat is totally fine, feels good, good size for my fat head. Would buy again in a different color I think.

After about $100. spent on several boonies (including Proper) I have success ! ! This boonie cover measures very close to the original "Sekri" without Marpat or other camo. The bucket has the proper rake with the back measuring 4 inches tall, the front measuring 3 inches tall, as it should. Allows more head room instead of the average after market that fits snug against the top of my head. Very comfortable. Thanks Proper ! ! Be perfect if the brim had an additional 1/4 inch width to match the original Boonie and provide comparable flop. Size at 7.5 is slightly large. I expect it to shrink to perfect. ... show more

    • Not the original Vietnam Era Boonie Hat.
This hat style wasn't issued during Vietnam. The one issued during Vietnam was 100% cotton, Olive Drab. This hat began to be issued in the late 1970s when the Army switched to permanent press fatigues. While it does the job, I was disappointed that the picture showed the earlier version, but the actual hat delivered was post-Vietnam Era. ... show more
