    • Not a fan of proform but this tool does the job well.
I had written off proform because they sold me some garbage car parts that wound up costing me way too much money in other damaged parts and headache. BUT they had the best spring compressor listed and I do think its a good product. The auto part stores rent one with a tiny handle that barely works on stock valve springs, I have stiffer valve springs (small block ford afr185s) and this thing worked like a charm. No complaints at all, the handle is nice, its a bit pricey but it did the job and made the job easy. Stick to making tools not car parts proform. ... show more

    • Stock heads, works good, no complaints.
Bought this with mixed feelings. Some people said it worked great, others said it didnt work at all. Not sure if those who it didnt work for them if they actually have automotive experience. been in the field for over 10 years and i used this tool to exchange the valve stem seals on my sbc 350 heads. stock vortec 5.7L L31 heads nothing fancy, it did quick work of it. Only gripe was the main jam nut that clocks the handle was loose when i got it. so i just snugged it down and then added some lubricant to the sliding rod and works great. haven't tried this on any other heads yet, but for stock sbc heads, definitely works fine. Also this tool is made in taiwan. the build quality QC and welds looks pretty good. definitely satisfied with my purchase. ... show more

    • Time saver
This tool works great. It is sturdy, easy to adjust and easy to use. The handle is plenty long to provide good leverage and it sort of locks in the compressed position, however I wouldn't trust it to stay compressed without some additional pressure on the handle by the user. One thing to be careful with, when you initially apply force to the handle to start the spring compression, there will be some resistance to get the spring cap off the retainers, so it will be a sudden release when the release occurs. It is advisable to tap each valve stem with a hammer to help loosen the retainers from the cap before using the compressor. Wow I can't believe i waited so long g to purchase such a great tool. So easy to use any size head. Will only work with the heads removed but man want a game changer over the old style spring compressor.

    • Gets the Job done
I had an old "made in the USA" standard duty "C clamp" style compressor like the type you can rent from a specialty tool store and it would not even come close to compressing my 300 lb springs without creaking, bending and going off center. I was going to take my heads to a shop and just have them remove the springs but came across this gem for about the same price that a machine should would charge me and this way, I get to keep the tool. It made quick work out of my old 300 lb springs and my new 400 lb springs didn't phase it either. It may not be pro-quality but I would recommend it for the occasional user. ... show more

This is reviewing the following item "Valve Spring Compressor, Head-Off, Adjustable, Steel, Blue Powder Coat, Each" with the lever and plunger design. I was skeptical at first due to some of the reviews, saying it was hard to pull the handle and did not lock in place. I don't if the reviews were on a different compressor tool, but it was not the case for this tool. I have moderately heavy valve springs for a solid roller cam on a SBC, 447#/in. and this tool had no issues compressing the springs. Very little force was required to compress the spring, and it locked in place as the mechanism goes over center, becoming self locking. One of the better tools I've used to compress springs on a head, other than a pneumatic spring compressor that I used for BBC heads with solid roller cam. ... show more

    • Solid. Easy to use and less effort with #350 and #420 lb valve springs than the old ones i have.
I have 3 older sets and hated to buy another, but with stronger valve springs I was struggling to pull them safely. My old split-jaw set was having trouble holding the retainers, a little scary. Glad i bought this. This thing is solid. If you get it set up to the right angle for the lever, pretty easy to collapse and hold. I saw some complaints about how hard the leverage is. If it's that hard, you don't have it set up correctly. When just making contact with the valve and spring retainer, the arm should already be past vertical about 20+ degrees for the correct leverage. ... show more
