We bought this for my son for his 5 year old birthday. It was a whole family bonding experience watching the shark "hatch". I like that once it comes out you can actually play with the shark like a normal toy. It is great quality and makes the coolest noises.     • Awesome, ridiculous, and exactly right for a toddler
This thing is awesome and pointless, which is kind of perfect for a toy. I got it for my grandson for Christmas, but of course we had to play with it first. As an adult, it mostly just made me laugh. No idea who thought up a hatching shark egg toy, because the whole premise is pretty preposterous. But for a toddler? Yeah, this is going to be a hit. Some details: 1. Appearance - Awesome. It is bright, silly, and exactly like the kind of thing a toddler would be drawn to. 2. Size - Bigger than expected and fairly heavy. 3. Quality - Great. It feels surprisingly well built for something this goofy. 4. Durability - Seems very solid. Obviously kid testing will be the real test, but it does not feel flimsy at all. 5. Entertainment value - Great for a toddler. For me it was mostly a laugh, but I can absolutely see my grandson loving it. 6. Replay value - Not totally sure yet. We will see how long the magic lasts after Christmas. 7. Value - Meh. Awfully expensive for something that has such little utility. Maybe I'll change my mind after Christmas ;) Overall, five stars.     • Not just for boys! My daughter loves this toy!!
We got this hatching megalodon shark toy in July and am surprised that it is still one of the first toys my 8 year old daughter takes out to show her friends when they come over to play. She thinks it’s so cool (and honestly, so do her friends!!) I think it’s kind of gross and noisy but that’s a big part of the appeal for kids! The shark is way larger than it seems like it would be from size of the hatch tank. It’s easy to get the shark back into the egg which is a huge relief. She also has a couple of the dinosaur’s from the Primal Hatch line, but this shark is her favorite by far because the hatching part is so exciting and fun to watch. The shark itself has held up well to lots of play and I haven’t had to replace the batteries yet. Well worth it!! This would definitely make an awesome holiday or birthday present. ... show more

This shark hatching toy is a really cool concept and definitely got my kids excited. The hatching process is entertaining, and the lights, sounds, and chomping movement makes it feel more interactive than other hatch toys. It's also nice that you can reset it to do over and over again. That said, I don't think it's worth the $50 price tag. While it's fun, it doesn't have enough features or replay value to justify the cost. The novelty wears off pretty quickly, and I expected a little more for the price. I ordered this as a gift for my 4 year old nephew because I thought it looked cool and fun and thought he would love it. I am glad I was able to try it because it worked out great and he loved it. The instructions were easy to understand. You remove the outer packaging and pull the plastic tab that activates the battery. You then fill it with water and wait for the shark to start hatching. He loved all the lights and sounds and colors. It is a big toy and really makes a big impression. We all had fun watching it come to life and he loved that the shark is interactive and that it can be placed back inside the egg and it will hatch over and over again. He must have watched it hatch ten times and had a blast. Afterwards he played with the shark all afternoon. I thought this was a great, fun and unique gift to give him. I would recommend this because we all had a great time with it. ... show more
