I bought these to play the game called Left Right Center (look it up). Because the game itself came with these disrespectful plastic button-sized chips, and I will not accept that as game currency. Highly offensive. Nobody has seven one dollar bills on them so I use these coins which are heavy and realistic looking. They're nice. Good heft to them. They make a nice jangly metal sound. I wish they came in a slightly bigger size and I wish the color was a little more golden (these are kind of pale), but overall, pretty good.

    • A HUGE hit at the Halloween parties!

I have a favorite pirate costume that I wear for Halloween, renn faires, and kids' birthday parties. I only wear the skull mask at Halloween, but I make sure to have "genuine metal" gold doubloons in my two pouches that hang from my waist belt to hand out to the little "buccaneers". I've included a picture of my attire, and you can see the two pouches (also bought here on Amazon!) that hold the treasure. These half-dollar sized coins are a much better alternative to the rather puny quarter-sized options available on this site; the larger size, along with the embossed texture, is more appealing both to me and the kiddos that I give them to. They successfully act as a peace offering for those smaller fry who can be quite frightened by the pirate countenance, and for the older kids, I tell them that these are from a sunken galleon that we dove off to retrieve. They all enjoy the bit of magic that a seemingly "real" object not usually seen in the modern world of digital gadgets can convey. Both sides of the coins are embossed, and the weight of them lends that aura of realism that no plastic trinket can match! Sure, they're not cheap, but my hope is that those who receive them will keep them for a longer period of time than an obviously fake plastic "toy"; and hopefully they will recall the fond memory of crossing paths with a rather scary, yet generous, pirate! ... show more
