  • Not Just For Investigators
I'm a mystery novelist. Most mystery novels involve murder, since that is the most serious crime, creates the most drama, gives the protagonist the biggest goal, etc. With the popularity of shows like CSI, and procedural mystery novels such as Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs, accuracy has become even more important. Readers are less likely to accept "creative license," and are quick to point out if something doesn't make sense. This book, which is used by police academies around the country, including the FBI Academy, is an essential guide to how homicides are investigated, or should be investigated. As a writer of crime novels, I have found this book to be a valuable reference in making sure that the police in my stories, and my private detective protagonist, are "true to life" in how they handle the investigations of murders. For any writer of crime fiction, this book should be on your desk for easy reference at all times--it has a permanent place on my desk. ... show more

  • Excellent material
Thoroughly informed on many types of crimes with profiles that assist in the psychology of the criminal mid. VERY Graphic, beware ! As a nurse this did not bother me. I actually had an encounter with a random woman whom I was able to provide relevant info about a practice that she was experimenting in and may have killed her because I had study a chapter on this deviant behavior. Great Reference Book by highly experienced Professional ... show more

Emphasis is placed on what law enforcement investigators are most likely to miss during a homicide scene investigation. A must read for both amateurs and professionals. ... show more

Some of the information is dated in terms of technology and a good portion of the book is the author referring to himself as an expert and touting his resume, but regarding the guts of an investigation the information and processes are solid. Expect a ton of gory photos.

  • Cover Falling Off
I received this book as a rental through Amazon Warehouse. While the description was "acceptable", it stated it might not have associated media with it. The book I received had packing tape all over the spine which is barely still on. The book is however exactly what I needed for my class at a great price. ... show more
