Powell-Peralta re-issue decks are close reproductions of their 1980’s counterparts, featuring the original top and bottom graphics, shape and concave. Made with our partner in Mexico. Materials include U.S. hard rock maple and glue that meets our specifications, warranted against delamination for their useful life. Shape and graphics created in Santa Barbara, CA. Discovered at a Virginia Beach contest by Neil Blender and Lance, a young Mike Vallely was asked to join the Powell-Peralta team and quickly rose to fame as a premier street skater. After initially rejecting the Roach graphic, Vallely worked closely with VCJ on an elephant theme. Mike and his elephant deck were both very popular. Mike currently runs Street Plant, a 100% independently owned and operated family business. "100% Independent Skateboarding for Love, for Fun. No rules, no divisions, no schools.     • Part Two Of My Midlife Crisis!
I purchased a couple of sets of Independent 169 Trucks and at 52yrs old my husband thinks I am having a midlife crisis! He’s terrified that I’m going to get killed, or at the very least beak an arm ! I said we could build a small lip trick ramp in the back yard, but that was a resounding NO! I decided on this deck as it has the old school style holes for trucks. I was going through stuff in our garage and found two boxes of late 80’s to mid 90’s skateboarding parts. Sets of wheels that are still in the wrapper’s and Rib Bones that bolt through the deck, not the new style that use wood screws. This way , if I decide to go with the Tracker Ultralight Trucks, they will fit. I used a wider board than most skaters do now and it’s what I am use to. I thought I would buy this deck since Mike Valley beat me in a competition in VA Beach in 1986 by two positions in vert skating. It still has the newer concave to it that hurts my feet after awhile, but it’s a great looking deck. I mentioned in my review of the Independent 169 black trucks I purchased that I thought I could still do some of the street stuff I use to be able to do, but my husband is still saying that I’m in denial about getting old. At least my insurance is good, expensive, but haven’t used it for anything but prescription meds and checkups. So that’s a huge plus! I was always a Powell Peralta fanboy and I found two unused sets of Tracker Ultralights as well as original Rat Bones wheels. I could use the exercise and I might loose some weight in the process. My husband says that the only weight I’m going to loose is from an amputation! I don’t think that I can do the things that I could between 14 and 24, but I think I can still Ollie and do rail slides and tail slides on benches. Not sure about how much kick flips have evolved, but it’s more about trying to forget that I’m going to be 53 in March and if I don’t do it soon, then I will probably never have another chance. The last time I was on a skateboard, I was probably like 35. It was a popsicle type deck and it was harder to ride than I thought, but I think it’s the size of the deck. I’ll keep you posted on this unless I break my neck! ... show more
