A Must Have for your Spark 2!
This thing is amazing. I have the Spark 2 and honestly its been awesome. I will say it is annoying that I need to reach behind the amp and sync to connect every single time. The XSONIC airstep spk edition connects immediately after being turned on which is great, however, it requires a power cycle and certain buttons to be pushed to change the mode. This was way more annoying to me than just connecting it once each time I decide to play. I can change modes and change my sounds easily on this one. The looper is also pretty easy to use and much better then any other alternative thus far. The battery life seems great so far and its feels like its built pretty tough so I'm not worried about banging it around. There are complaints of the buttons being too close together and using this on a stage could be difficult but I disagree I just put some footswitch toppers on the top row only and now its not a problem at all. You can assign each button to something specific which is great I like to have my "Drive" pedal in the easiest to reach spot so I assigned it to the bottom left corner and that has worked for me. While this is more expensive than the Airstep its incredibly compatible with the Spark 2. Overall, I would say if you have the Spark 40 or the Spark GO then get the Airstep because I feel it works better and its cheaper. If you have the Spark 2 then its a no brainer get this it just works so well with it. It also replaced my whole pedal board at a fraction of the cost. It was easy to justify all I needed to do was sell a pedal or 2 and it paid for itself. If there was an update that made it so this could connect immediately after power up then I wouldn't have anything negative to say about it.

Worth It
I have a Spark 2 amp. So to get it set-up is a bit of a trouble but nothing show stopping. You have to use the App, Fun fact is that if you use the App on your phone and ALSO on an iPad you have to transfer tone to the cloud in order to share them. It just does not magically happen. When setting up the Spark X just have some patience and you will get it. Also they made it really hard to easily see the On/Off and Bluetooth connect buttons on the back of the unit. The On/Off is recessed too making it more difficult to find and use. I know you just have to get used to it but let's make it easy and obvious. I have an Expression Pedal from Boss that I used with my Katana 100 and it works with the Spark X! I use it as a volume pedal which is a must actually for live playing. The Spark X toggles thru each A and B banks, selects one of the four presets AND lets you toggle thru each 'stomp box' for each preset. It is really nice and works. You may have to look at your phone to watch the toggling action to keep track of where you are. There are also those plastic covers which help. It takes about a day or more to fully charge when you get it at first. If you are going to play somewhere it is best to recharge the night before. I really like the footprint of it. Very compact and even with size 13 shoes you can press the buttons. For my set-up I basically only have 2 presets that I use - even though you can have 8 of them. You cannot tell which preset you are on though. Use the B button to move thru presets, but you have to reference your app to know where you are aside from hearing it. The A button toggles thru the first 4 presets and the second set of presets. For the Spark 2 to get it going after setup you have to turn on Spark 2, turn on Spark X, long press Spark 2 Bluetooth button, then load the app on your phone/ipad. A bit expensive but it seems to be worth the cost. Glad I have it.

Some lag.
This is a good, but not great pedal. The pluses are that it works easily with my Spark Live - which is the best Amp I've ever known. It's easy to use and integrates flawlessly with the superb Spark app. It is very different than most multifunction pedals in that you are going to want to load your tones into the pedal prior to playing any song. This isn't really a bad thing, as it takes only seconds and gives you absolute control of the tones at your disposal. But you will still be fiddling with your phone or tablet during a performance - unless you have an engineer - which most using Spark equipment won't. The upside is that you can have up to 8 tones for any given song, which is more than enough. Loading them to the pedal is simple, just chose the button and channel. The not so good; There are 4 main foot switches, with two channels. There is an A and a B foot switch that I assumed would change the channel - it doesn't the A button switches with a small LED changing color. It can get tricky to know which bank is active. The B switch changes to a more traditional setup where you can alter treble, mid, bass, and gain. My main complaint, and the reason it got 4 rather than 5 stars is that there is a distinct lag when changing from one tone to another. One to two seconds. Often I hit a switch and the first couple of notes are not in the desired tone, then the switch catches up. I do run it BlueTooth - it might not have this hard wired, but much of the charm is that it is wireless.

Wireless Freedom
No problems yet. I use it for practicing with a few of their products. The only annoying thing is that it doesn’t remember the last device you connected it to so pairing always has to be done every single time. Not a deal breaker for me though. I haven’t experienced the drops and delays that I hear about. It’s built well and I rarely have to charge it.

Amazon to the rescue
The one I ordered back in November stopped powering up today. I looked everywhere for the box, which I usually keep for all my equipment, but not this time. I thought I was screwed, but Amazon came to the rescue, sending me a replacement. I just have to box the old one and return it before Feb. 2026. I enjoyed the Spark X Controller while it lasted, and I'm hoping the new last awhile longer, otherwise I'll be ditching my Positive Grid gear for something more reliable.

Half Baked per usual with Positive Grid
Got it to use with a Spark Mini. Was especially interested in the expression pedal inputs and for volume pedal functionality. Also, the thing I love about the Spark Mini is the portability, and thought this would be a nice addition. However, come to find out with the Spark Mini and Go, not only do you have to always use the app to pair the 2, you have to have your phone or tablet open the whole time. If you close it, the pedal and amp lose connection, and once you open the app back up, reconnection is really hit and miss. Also the app seemed to crash or become unresponsive quite a bit. It was already kind of sketchy just pairing with the amp, but this just added a ridiculous layer of complexity and unreliability. Also be advised, the "volume pedal" literally just controls the master output volume on the guitar channel. Toe up is all the way down, toe down is ALL the way up, with no way to adjust the range. It operates completely independent of the actual volume knob on the amp. In addition, since it controls the volume only at the end of the signal chain, it's completely useless for volume swells. Also. not including the wah pedal add on for a pedal with a dedicated wah pedal input is pretty crappy and greedy... again, completely useless without an additional purchase. If I had been aware of these limitations, I definitely would not have bought it, will be sending it back.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE PURCHASE
3/5 stars. Build quality is amazing. Pedals feels nice. But listen, my biggest gripes are that 1) The spark app has to stay open for the pedal to function properly when changing effects. 2) when i try to play a backing track thru the spark app while my phone is connected to my spark 40 while the pedal is connected as well, it lags so much i cant even play along with it!! I did digging i think its cause the bluetooth latency. Whatever that means lol. I barely used it since i bought it a month ago because of that issue. But overall, besides that, its a really nice product.
