  • Impact wrench is not durable
Style: Combo Kit
the speed-drill has great power and works good.-no complaints for the first hour the impact had amazing power / torque then... the batteries lose re-chargable capacity very fast. like whoa fast. within 1 month of normal use you can notice about a loss in half the time they die before needing recharge. i was building garden beds and a gazebo and the impact drill died before going through 1 x 25lb box of 3" wood screws Impact chuck burned up the first day and wouldn't hold a bit in. Runs seriously HOT, like burn your hand HOT. I borrowed a 14V ni-mh MAKITA impact from my neighbor to finish the job and i don't wanna give it back lol. ... show more

  • Porter Cable has never let me down
Style: Combo Kit
Let me preface this review with this: On just about anything and everything I buy, I can normally find a pretty even amount of opinions both for and against said item. From my limited experience and in today's market of mediocrity to average quality stuff (for above average to outrageous prices) luck of the draw seems to play the biggest role in whether or not I get a good average priced item or a Monday or Friday produced item............. With that said, lets get on with this review:-) So, I do own a couple corded Porter-Cable items and for the years that I have owned them and the use they've been subjected to, they have ALL held up quite fine. Now understand these corded items have certainly not been put thru the grind of a contractor style life, but they have been used to help me produce and complete what I consider to be average and slightly above average DiYer type jobs. So I bought this Duo because my Black & Decker Firestorm 18V power drill was just no longer cutting it for me. The original batteries for it on top of the additional batteries I've purchased for it have just stop performing as expected and needed. Mind you, this firestorm item is part of a set (flashlight, skill saw, reciprocating saw and power drill). So after looking at numerous brands and price points I was willing to spend, I went with PC because of my previous experience with their corded equipment. Although not Heavily used, I am so very glad I made the purchase, so much so that I have purchased a few other items from the 20V max family. As well as buying additional 20v Max extended batteries. Now mind you, my comparison is to older technology, but I can say having stepped into this new era of power and portability, PC has not let me down!!! Ergonomics: I have decent size hands and these tools feel comfortable when I hold and use them. They have a pretty decent balance that allows me to get into tight spots without worry about my arm/wrist/fingers fatiguing quickly. They're light enough to hold for extended periods but not to light to feel light junk. Aesthetics: Totally subjective, but they look as good as they feel to use. I can easily spot them across a room or my garage and I have no problem reading their molded numbers/settings on the casing. Battery Life: So far OUTSTANDING, both usage time as well as standby time (I've had these items for about 5 months now) - and recharging is quite quick as well. I Definitely enjoy these new chargers that are truly smart chargers so as not to over charge and then drop down to a trickle charge once a battery is replenished. Power: Since I only have my old Firestorm to compare it to - there really is no comparison. Both the power driver and power drill have performed flawlessly. Chucking up bits in either is a snap and I'm quickly powering thru 2x4/4x4 lumber or removing rusted nuts from trailer carriages. I recently purchased the reciprocating saw in this family and was chewing thru 4x4/6x6 lumber like nobody's business:-) Storage: It came with a simple tote bag that the drivers fit in. Nothing to do backflips over, but suitable and functional. Oddly enough though, when I look at the large combo pack they sell, they only provide larger tote bags too to accommodate everything......I would have liked to seen something more formed and rugged like a molded plastic case - but this was certainly not a deal breaker for me. Interchangeability: More so referencing the batteries and how they can fit this entire family of tools - but that's nothing unique to porter-cable however I do like how they connect to the bottom and slide in from the front. It feels firm and pretty solid as if they would take a good knock and not pop off if say one fell from my shop bench. Ruggedness: Although I certainly have not dropped them from a ladder or roof (Thank GOD!!) they have gotten bumped around a bit in my garage and still look and perform like I just bought them yesterday. And they clean up pretty easily when I've grabbed them with greasy/oily hands Value: For the value I thought they were well worth it. In my opinion and from my experience PC has provided me quality tools for a long time. A name I trust and tools I've come to appreciate (much like my craftsman tools) and the price point on this combo I felt was very reasonable. SUMMARY: So, there you have it. I like the tools, they work quite well for me, they weren't outrageously priced and provided I treat they properly and with a little craftsmen respect, I believe they'll last me for years to come like they're corded brethren. If you decide to make the purchase, I hope yours treat you as well as mine currently are:-) ... show more

  • Harbor Freight for life!!!
Style: Combo Kit
Really disappointed with the drill. It started making a grinding noise after 5-10 1/8 inch pilot holes drilled. Technically it still works but who knows how much longer. The only solution porter cable had was to drive to a regional repair shop and see what they could do. The 90 day manufacturers return means driving as well. I asked a few times to just see if I had a bad rep, but the answer was the same. Sorry, my time is worth more than that. I would like to congratulate Stanley Black and Decker for successfully alienating me from all their brands from here on out. The impact works great. I was happy enough that I didn’t return the set because I would have had to give up the impact. Overall, porter cable is a hard pass for me going forward. I don’t really care that the drill took a dump. It’s the bad customer service that is the real reason for this review. ... show more

  • Works Great!
Style: Combo Kit
I've had this bundle on my Wish List for the past 2 years. I absolutely needed a replacement cordless drill, and this Porter Cable bundle has bounced around in price for a while. I've seen it as low as $99 around the holidays and as high as $129 for the regular price. The regular price still beats out the competition by a large margin. This past Christmas it went on sale for $99 and i didn't pass it up. Amazon Prime provided fast 2-day shipping. Don't know about you, but when get a new tool (especially in the mail) i feel like a little kid opening a new toy. This gave me that feeling. Out of the box: It came with both the Drill and the Driver, 2 20V batteries, and the battery charger. The battery charger is something totally new to me. I've not seen this type before. I'm used to the big block charger that Porter Cable used to have. This is almost like a phone charger. It's actually better because it doesn't take up any room. As you can tell from the size of the carrying bag, it's pretty compact and fits both cordless drills and the charger in it. Heck, you could probably put a small drill set in there with it. Charging: Took somewhere around 2- 2 1/2 hours to fully charge 1 battery. I guess that's not bad now a days. The Charger does have lights on it to let you know when it's charging and when it's fully charged. I'm very happy that it came with 2 batteries. I've seen other companies where their bundles only came with 1 rechargeable. Those batteries aren't cheap, either! Power: Yeah, it's exactly what you'd expect and want from a 20V lithium. Honestly, i haven't used either of them enough to run out of battery yet. I will update this review as soon as i get a good idea of that. Bag: Bag is solid and good, sturdy, rip-proof material. It also has a solid plastic piece at the bottom for added protection and keeping the bag's shape. "Gripe": I couldn't be more excited about owning this. As a homeowner and former Carpenter, there's always a use for these and i will have these handy for a long time. The only "gripe" that i have, is that i'm not too keen on style. Even though they're compact, i'm not into the "Transformer" look. I'd like it kept simple. It also feels cheap to me. The plastic chuck doesn't have a solid feel to it at all. It's very loose when it doesn't have a bit in it, as opposed to their older models that had some resistance. It's something that i will always keep my eye on, and feel that if anything ever does go on the drill, it'll be that. The grip is good. There is a bit of thin rubber on the handle, preventing it from slipping. Overall: I do recommend this product. I've long supported Porter Cable and have a few other products of theirs. Buying this set was a no-brainer for me. I will leave you with a Pro and Cons to further assist you. Thanks for reading! Pros: -Price -Power -Quality -Bag -Small batteries and charger -Weight and Balance -Grip Cons: -Style -Cheap-feel Chuck ... show more
